What will the top 5 be at the end of Switch's life?

1. Nintendo
2. Pokemon
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?

I would guess Capcom, Square Enix, and.... Konami? in that order
That seems like a likely possibility, but imagine saying this to someone 2 years ago that Konami was a top 5 Switch publisher in Japan.

According that XC2 is 6th now and XC2+DLC is 26th, FETH is now 48th, RF4S(on sale) is 7th, SoS and BD2 are still 3rd and 4th. FF7, FF9, FFX+X2, FF8 and FF12, all on sale are 16th, 20th, 24th, 28th and 42nd respectively.

Well Konami is above Square-Enix and Microsoft isn't too far behind Square-Enix actually... KT and SEGA are a bit behind though.

Bamco is capable of surprise 500-600k selling family games anytime of during a consoles life span. They have always and will probably always be fighting for the top spot of third party sellers.

They haven't had one in 2 years though and they only managed it twice. Capcom, Square Enix and Konami are all capable of swinging multimillion sellers on Switch, Bamco can't match that with Harada's current zero investment family title strategy. Their only advantage is pure number of releases (almost as much as the other 3 combined).

Agreed.

Personally I think the order will be something like:

1. Nintendo
2. Pokemon
3. Capcom (MHR + MHStories 2 + other leaked titles)
4. Bandai Namco - They just produce a lot of titles, and they get 100K sellers and much more out of nowhere
Konami - Momotaro + Baseball I guess
5. Konami - Momotaro + Baseball (maybe they're 4th instead)
6. Square Enix - They support the Switch well, but their biggest sellers so far are on other platforms thus far and their titles are too infrequent. A DQ12 on Switch could change this, but we'll see.

That was sort of always their strategy. Squat out 10-15 games a year and hope they stumble on a hit. Run for Money and Taiko were big hits form them on 3DS. Of course the occasional anime hit, though those have been even more rare. Their strategy was always built on trends and fads.

They also had higher investment original efforts on 3DS though with things like Disney Magical World, DBZ Extreme Butoden or One Piece Unlimited World. That's sort of dropped away on Switch for some reason and now even the anime ports are starting to dry up (Where's DBZ Kakarot, SAO AL, One Piece WS, etc?). The past year their big effort was a Family Trainer port (that flopped) and a year late Jump Force port no one wanted.

Bandai Namco's maybe the only major 3rd party I think can be argued is giving Switch worse 3rd party support than 3DS or even maybe Vita. They're also the only major 3rd party who's support has seemed to get worse as Switch is peaking.

Kakarot may indeed be happening:

www.resetera.com

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot leaked for Switch and Xbox Series by Bandai Namco Latin America's Instagram

The leak was pointed out by MrEevee98 and was found by the Nintenleaks twitter account. No one should be shocked at a Switch version when all current DB games since XV2 got Switch ports, plus Switch just got Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 - Road to Boruto last year, another current...

If a low-effort port of a popular arcade game can sail past 500k I wouldn't worry too much. Pitching a 3DS game with a budget in the low 7 figures is probably easier than committing nearly 8 figures to an HD Switch game. Ports seem to be the only thing they have an appetite for, but I agree if they took more risks with a big project on Switch that could be a bigger seller than any port.

But that's happened literally once. And it's basically as good as it gets for Bamco.

The fact that in 4 years only 4 of these publishers could top 1m cumulative sales is so fucking sad.
It's sad how much Japanese third parties dropped the ball by ignoring/horrifically underestimating the Switch. Anyone could've seen it was going to do super well. It ended up shattering every expectation and then some.

Had they been there day 1 with a slew of ports, exclusives, and giving it top-priority, well we'd be seeing a FAR different picture.

To be fair, Koei Tecmo and Marvelous, who've been full supporters of the Switch for years now, still haven't hit 1m despite that. I think it largely depends on the type of games these publishers typically release, which for KT and Marvelous, isn't million-selling titles normally.

Now, Capcom and Level-5 are ones that absolutely should be at a million by now. And Sega should certainly be much higher as well.

That's true. You can't expect more more out of them. They may not put their best foot forward on Switch but they find a way to remain in contention. They could be one licensed musou game away from a hit. My point is they don't need to rely on Harada changing course to profit from the big install base, just strike gold with one fad.

Mochi is reiterating that the Switch revision is coming in the second half of the year and that most of the new Nintendo games line-up has not be announced for the FY.

Should be quite an exciting year.

The only other big title that could release until December is Breath of the Wild 2, everything else would be announcements in the scale of Ring Fit Adventure and Mario Golf that don't need months of push.

Somewhere in between.

For Mario Kart, we can all agree that they have a game coming soon (ARMS was in June 2017) and that since you (and I) are not expecting ARMS 2, MK is therefore the likeliest scenario.

even though what Chris said is the most likely to be true, don't forget nsmb2 was release within 2 months after being announced and that's a 2D mario

edit: zelda games tend to be announced (3D) way before to generate hype while anything Mario related can be announced close to launch so that's the difference there

From years 1 and 2 of the Switch the Mario Odyssey, Arms, the main Xenoblade team, HAL, and probably the Mario Party team, should all have games to announce in the near future. The Splatoon team, Grezzo, and Camelot fell under this and had games announced so far.

Currently we know about Nintendo's releases up to July and they will probably have BotW2 launch this FY in addition to two Pokemon titles.

No serious source
It is Just baffling how manu teams havent released a game on Switch since 2017/2018

Btw, they had a Direct covering games punto July, plus Pokémon remakes, I would say it is likely they will have another one in Summer to cover releases from September to december (like a couple of games, I would say, and probably mid tirar)

Most of these teams have developed multiple games.

Hal for example

[NSW] Super Kirby Clash
[iOS/Android] Housuu de Shoubu!! Kame Sanpo

A couple of games more than Pokémon remakes would mean three games for four months

They already announced games up to July with Zelda SS and we know that August very often is skipper by many companies

So of they are going to have, let's Say, Pokémon remakes in October, we could see a game in September and a game in November imho

Those could be a a weird game like Labo or Fit, maybe warioware branded, and a more core game like bayonetta

Of course we know that Zelda Botw is the wild card here

But, why two more games would be strange?
It's not that they havent linedup a consistent stream of contents for the year
