Yes. The continuity isn't super duper important but it exists.
6 is a direct sequel of 5.Do any of these movies really carry on from one to another. Aside from Ving Rhames waxing nostalgic, I think i've seen 1,2, ... parts of 3 and 4, and then 5 on a whim
I always liked the mystery thriller of the first the best of what I've seen. The second one seemed like a terrible John Woo James Bond with a limp bizkit theme, and I just never really got back into them as they became more action-y ( i guess I prefer De Palma)
Can i stream 3 and 4 somewhere? Cavill has me onboard from the bathroom fight scene.
Whoa whoa whoa people don't like the first Mission Impossible?
Really fun, out of all the stuff to get a free pass on Era, its Cruise.
From gamersgate, to metoo, TRUMP talk, this piece of Hollywoods Ubermench always gets a freebie.
How on earth can you watch his movies? You do remember what society he is a highly regarded member of right?
I don't even think it's being petty. The plot literally makes no sense with respect to characterization from the series. This is a man who gave his life to IMF. And what did he decide to sell the team out for? Money? It's nonsense. Come up with a better motivation or use an original character instead. It's petty, but having grown up watching reruns of the 60s and 80s show, i hated what the first film did with the James Phelps character. No wonder Peter Graves wanted no part of it.
For me:I hated the first Mission Impossible.
Then they got better. Ghost Protocol was crazy good.
Very excited for this, looks like the action set-pieces might be series best. The first movie is still the best though, because of dat De Palma style and tension that holds the movie together beyond the big setpieces.
Smh at all the Bond disrespect in this thread tho. Yeah MI has been more consistent, but it also has a fraction of the entries over a much smaller timeframe. I think even the Bond movies that are worse movies than the MI's frequently have more charm and feel less anonymous even if they're not as polished. And ain't nothin in MI has touched the best Bond movies yet.

I did as well, but Ferguson >>>>> Patton, so I'm excited she's back.
Please no. Only Thandie is welcome back
He's reloading his beard. Obviously.
While we're hyping ourselves up, time to repost that amazing Uncharted: Fallout style trailer!
wait.....why does he suddenly grow a beard when he reloads his arms

You should watch 3, 4 and 5. They are GREAT.I haven't seen a Mission: Impossible movie since 2. They've got me.
What if he's not personally abusive but just covers for other abusive people?Methinks thou art woketh too much.
Scientology is distasteful but so is much of organized religion and most people are religious so... can't avoid everything. As long as he's not abusive I don't care what he does on his free time.
Lets goooo
Fuck 'The Rock is the last action star we got left' takes, Cruise is like three times better and more charismatic.

I might have to do that this weekend.

It's so interesting to me that people keep saying 3 is just okay. I've been rewatching all of them on 4K over the past couple weeks, and 3 surprised the hell out of me with just how well it holds up. Some really clever action beats that I thought were really well directed, probably the most interesting story of the entire franchise, and obviously the best villain.
I'm really not seeing what makes it a lesser film for people, I was actually blown away.

I haven't seen the film in its entirety since it came out, so i don't remember all the details, but i do remember being all "fuck this film" after that act of character assassination. Since it has been so long, i thought maybe it was just a kneejerk reaction, thanks for the vindication.
Can you guys talk to the people throwing tantrums about Luke Skywalker still. Because unlike them, y'all actually went through some shit. You've got my sword. FUCK the first Mission Impossible film. I was absolutely livid with what they did to Jim Phelps character and pissing all over Peter Graves and the original series in the process, honestly it still really fucking grates me even now. I can watch any of the MI films from 2 onwards now and again but I just can't watch the first one again. Maybe a little bit hyperbolic but being a huge fan of the original series and growing up with it , I wasn't best pleased, at all.
Still, new one looks fucking great. I've enjoyed them all since 2 onwards (I especially have a soft place in my heart for 2)
