I'm gonna sit out on this one, but if you've never played NSMBU, the game is very much recommended

Just as expected, is scoring lower than the original.

Which is understandable. As I've said before, NSMBU pretty much got the reverse effect of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. While DKCTF got better reception with the years up to the point of becoming a cult classic, NSMBU got simply blander and blander everytime a new 2D platformer was released after it.

There are better games releasing this month on Switch that deserve our support more anyway.

Sounds about right. Reviewers recognising it as a good to great Mario, but also admitting Nintendo could and should have done more to make it a more enticing product.

This is the best 2D mario game since the SNES btw, so if you didn't get it on wiiu it should be a no-brainer to pick it up.

I personally enjoy NSMBU but there's some rather baffling design decisions in this port. I don't understand why Toadette and Nabbit are mandatory multiplayer characters if you're playing with four people and why you can't toggle their handicaps off. Why can't all players play by the same rules?

Might as well look up the reviews for the Wii U version if you haven't played it. It's the best 2D Mario game IMO. Maybe a bit on the easy side but the Luigi remixed levels provide an increased challenge. The price tag feels a bit high but it's Nintendo so it's probably a good business move.

NSMBU is definitely the best of the series from the perspective of pure level design, but I understand people being burned out or finding it bland. If you've never played it I would highly recommend it though, the challenge levels are really creative and awesome. Super Luigi U is basically proto-Mario Maker with its weird and unorthodox levels.

If you've never played it then you should get it day 1
New super Luigi expansion is amazing as well, made me go mad lol

These scores are what I figured tbh

I agree. I wasn't aware you couldn't do that. Definitely doesn't add up.

I was also never a big fan of the screen pausing for a split second everytime someone gets a powerup either.
That's in this version as well right?
Also the bumping.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze's 2 player, while not perfect was more enjoyable than this.

Can't believe they're still using Wii era character models in this...they look so ropey compared to every other Switch Mario game :/ Of course it wasn't really acceptable on Wii U in 2012 either

Changing the mid-air spin to the jump button is also odd, can see it as an accessibility thing in some ways but it's unsurprising yet maddening they don't let you put it back on a shoulder button...

Still, for anyone getting this, don't sleep on the excellent and easily missed challenge mode, it's where a lot of my playtime was spent back on Wii U. This Nintendolife video does a great job showing its infuriating yet compelling nature

If you've never played it then you should get Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze or Celeste instead. It's so bland. The Luigi stuff was slightly better but it's not worth the full price.

I'll proably buy it to play with my gf but I cant stand the NSMB graphic style. I cant stand it anymore, they havent changed it since 2006. I remember a time when SMB2, SMB3, SMW, SMW2 Yoshis Island all looked different from each other. The NSMB games have been on autopilot since NSMB Wii. I wish Nintendo came up with a new line of 2D Mario games after this one.

It´s a solid game but i wouldn´t recommend it to anyone at that ridiculous price point. There are plenty of better Jump´n´Runs on the Switch.

Not surprised by the low scores. Yes it's a good game but it's $60 and 6 years old.

Ehh? Can't say ~80 is a bad score, but I kinda expect ~90 since this game usually ended up on best Mario game ever on many people's lists

I'm disappointed that the block-dropping mode wasn't included. Was hoping they'd integrate it on the TV screen somehow. Let a player drag around a dotted block and choose where to place it or something.

If I played the WiiU version, is there anything new or is it a straight port more or less?

This was easily my biggest disappointment with the port when it was announced. Nabbit already weakened 4 player Luigi U now it seems they've contaminated the main game :/
