Nintendo might have a brand new retail first party game for december.
And the Wii U port that was teased by her and Zell (probably Pikmin 3 according to Zell) will probably release in january of february 2020.
I don't think so. We all know that Pikmin 4 exist at some point. It's just like Retro's game everyone is saying: At this E3 they will show it, at this Direct they will show it. And nothing is happening

If it winds up happening and being a completely new title, and not a port/collection of some kind, that would be one of the best kept secrets in gaming in recent memory.
Based on all the info, I think it's safe to say that mystery game #4 has got to be Star Fox GP. I personally can't imagine what else they could announce and turn around by December.

Yeah that makes sense, but in this day and age, I find it very rare to be (pleasantly) surprised. I'd still give kudos to Nintendo for being able to pull even something on a smaller scale like that off.
I wouldn't go down this path. Nintendo has basically never announced and released a game this late in the year. With Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon, and Mario/Sonic Olympics already filling up the Holiday/November slot, anything released in December would be sent to die.
I can almost guarantee, if something new is announced, even a port/remaster would fall into Q1/2020. I'd love to be wrong.
With that said, last year the September Direct had a few neat 3rd party announcements for imminent release such as Civ6.
Hoping for a November Direct for extended pain and suffering. Waking up every morning for that long awaited tweet. Scouring the message boards and Youtube for any hint that relief will come soon...but it never does.

Also, I wanted to add my own opinion on the matter.
It's pretty clear how September 2018's Direct was more stuffed with announcements than September 2017's presentation, especially for the Switch:
- 8 new announcements for Switch + 3 new announcements for 3DS = 11 announcements between US/EU and Japan in 2017
- 22 new announcements for Switch + 2 for 3DS = 24 announcements between US/EU and Japan in 2018
Of course, the amount of Switch games first revealed in the September 2018's Direct is influenced by the "Final Fantasy bomb" when Square Enix decided to announce several titles in the series for Switch (and Xbox One / Steam). Still, even when trying to filter them, it's undeniable that things have seen important improvements, and the February 2019 presentation was not far off, with 19 new titles shown between US/EU and Japan. If a Direct is indeed happening next month, we can assume we're going to see 15+ new titles again, between first and third parties. No, not all the announcements would be available for preorder right at the end of the Direct. Also, don't forget there can be multiple SKUs for one single game (regular, collector's, etc.).
On the first party side: Pokémon Sword / Shield might be one of the highlights, just like Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon back in 2017. Plus new infos (without highlights) for both Link's Awakening and Luigi's Mansion 3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons might get the highlight treatment as well (unless it just gets its own Direct, like Super Mario Maker 2 did).
In terms of new announcement, if the mystery Wii U port is coming out in early 2020, this would be the right time to unveil it, exactly like NSMBU: Deluxe one year ago. It would also be the right venue for the Mystery game still seemingly slated for this year. I wouldn't expect anything that big, though: Nintendo is set in terms of major sellers this year, however I wouldn't discount the possibility of seeing more casual-focused software to try to catch on the audience expansion the Switch Lite might bring. Something like Brain Training or Style Savvy might get a December release. I really, really doubt Tomodachi Life is a good candidate, since Animal Crossing is coming out in March, there would be no point in releasing it now. Holidays 2020? That's another story.
In addition to the aforementioned games, I'd say 2-3 more Nintendo announcements for 2020 might be possible. After all, Nintendo announced 3 2019 games back in September 2018 (Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing - then delayed - , NSMBUD), it's not so implausible. I wonder if Kirby may be one of the, since it's been more than 2 years since Star Allies was announced, and around 17-18 months since its release. It'd be a perfect release for the Golden Week period.
On the third party side: this is quite tricky, but there are several potential candidates
- Game Freak has recently registered a trademark for Little Town Hero, which is 99.9% the official name for Town. The game's last appearance was...at last September's Direct
- NateDrake mentioned both Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Rogue coming to Switch
- Mario & Sonic should be getting its own spot; Super Monkey Ball might as well
- Square Enix / Silicon Studio have teased Bravely in the past. It could be the right time to announce a collection of the first two games, now in HD. Actually, I wouldn't exclude the possibility of the collection being the so-called Mystery Game #4: in the West, Nintendo would be the publisher.
- The Witcher 3 should be getting its own spot as well
- Might Namco announce the remaster of We Love Katamari right one year after KD: Reroll? Or may they decide to give the remaster treatment to another long gone property...like Klonoa? This is more a personal hope of mine, I know. However, Namco has recently trademarked the name for a new Taiko game in Europe. It may be for a mobile / PS4 (doubtful) entry, but if it's for Switch, maybe the (Japanese) Direct might be a decent place to unveil it.
- Speaking of Japanese family-friendly games, this might also be a good occasion to reveal a brand new Itadaki Street by Square Enix: the last entry on PS4/PSV was released almost 2 years ago, the Switch is definitely way more receptive towards board games (no, not you, Billy on Road). I wonder if, this time, they would go again with DQ and Mario (like the Wii / DS entries) or, thanks to FF's stronger presence on Switch, they're going to bring FF into the mix as well
- Capcom might reveal other Devil May Cry ports. Undoubtely, the dream would be to see the long-anticipated seventh entry in the Ace Attorney series: the last two main entries have been announced before TGS, it would fit the pattern. But, I fear a second AA trilogy (with 4-5-6) might be everything we see (and I'd still buy that one XD )...unless they pull off a Rune Factory. Not feeling this is the right time for Monster Hunter, since it'd be way too close to Iceborn's release
- ...Biomutant? It's the only retailer leak from a while ago that has yet to be confirmed
- 1% of chance, I know, but I don't think it would be impossible to see GTAV announced in this Direct, especially if the main reported issue (cartridge-size) is now less of an hurdle (as The Witcher 3 shows)
Not even a wish, more of a guess. Shlooters are absent on switch except for Warframe which seems to be doing good; the market is wide open.
Snowdrop engine performs really well on switch, including for open world games.
Ubisoft ain't great on switch, but they ain't EA brain dead either.
Mix everything together, and The Division 2 on switch becomes a possibility, and I guessed it for about 6 months. Now the ship is definitely sailing, and after this direct I'll stop thinking that it'll come.
It seemed like some people thought (and still think) it would be pushed into 2020 (since a three month reveal-to-release span seems too small for a new physical release). I'll put my trust in Emily on this one though; if it exists, it'll be revealed fairly soon anyway.
It's gonna be either a more niche game or some party game people won't be that hyped over. I'm putting money down, let's all calm down. Think realistically about what they would reveal so close to its release in the holiday that they wouldn't have already shown in the February or E3 direct
There could be a game for Q4 2019 (fiscal year). And no, not animal crossing which was not only delayed, but is borderline the quarter after.
Nintendo dropping the ball a third time in a row from January to March would be disappointing after the excellent string of releases we're seeing.
I'm wondering if Mystery Game #4 is EPD PG 7's next game. Doesn't seem like it would be too big of a title that a huge marketing lead-up would be needed.
I mean, it's not that inconceivable that they might announce a game releasing in 3 months. I don't think people are expecting a major game or anything, rather something smaller but nice.
Back in February, Emily posted a list that gave us an approximate amount of Nintendo-published games that would most-likely release for the Switch this year. Almost everything on it has shown up so far, besides the Wii U port (Pikmin 3) and the elusive "Mystery Game #4".
Yesterday (well, in my timezone at least) Emily gave us two new hints/pieces of information:

I have no theory about what game it will be, but my guess is that a game coming out in December instead of January or February is one that Nintendo feels would benefit from the big holiday rush, and wouldn't do as well as a stand-alone title after the holiday money has been spent.

If this new mystery game is indeed coming out in December/end of the year I'd assume it's not a game with a big name or something that would require a long period of time between announcement and release (4-ish months from now)
Think of Wario Ware or titles with similar caliber.

Yeah; June-August. That wasn't published by Nintendo (outside of Japan, where it was delayed to January 2018) though, so who knows why Ubisoft decided to go with that.
