Smash now is just a niche game for competitive players.
That's the logic level of some users replying in this thread.

You do realize that Smash Bros 4 and Brawl both sold over 10 Million right?fighting games are niche. period. maybe not on these boards, but to the general average player I don't know anyone who plays fighting games. they were huge in the 90s but these days they don't see to joe average gamer as much. you have to be really good at Smash to even have a chance, so that puts people off if they've never played one.

Firstly: Personally speaking, I certainly don't think Nintendo are doomed and such sensationalism is ridiculous.
Secondly, Microsoft doesn't only have Forza and Sony doesn't only have Spider-Man.
PS4 and Xbox One both have a ton of third party games that won't be on Switch - from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Shadow of the Tomb Raider to Spyro Trilogy to Battlefield V to Fallout 76 to Assassins Creed Odyssey to Black Ops IIII to Hitman 2 to Soulcalibur VI. Just those right there are a lot of games exclusively not on Switch.
He didn't list any Wii U ports. With Octopath, Smash and Mario Tennis I'd say the system has some pretty nice titles for hardcore fans, one of them (Smash) being a huge title. Pokemon is also pretty big with hardcore gamers.Take out Octopath and Wii U ports we already played and you have one of the most casual lineups ever. Why are you surprised a hardcore gaming forum wouldn't be content with such a lineup?
The usual drop after directs. Smash will be the best selling exclusive this year and the switch will do huge numbers.
Oh my god we have a new form of the Switch owners are hungry for games...Or you know they are good games?you do realize Nintendo first party always sells a ton since all they have is first party, so people buy every game.

show me how many of those players still play the game a year after launch.

Ridley in Smash was a meme that got true, those bastardsThe truth is that for someone who doesn't care about Smash (me), this was indeed such a dissapointing Direct. Everyone was expecting more big announcements. E3's nature and big attraction has always been the big announcements. Most people who watched the Nintendo Direct yesterday were aware that Smash would be the main focus, but holy crap nobody was expecting a freaking half and hour segment of nothing but Smash! To the point they were talking about useless differences between characters such as Wii Fit Trainer's having a more friendly face like, wtf!? You don't use your precious E3 spotlight to show that useless crap! There's tons of better timings to show that very specific info such as a proper Smash Direct or during the Treehouse streams, not on your main E3 presentation where not every spectator is a Smash fan and doesn't give a damn about Bayonetta having a slightly different pistol sound. It didn't help at all the fact that it was the main attraction of the presentation. Everyone was expecting a "One more thing" moment, meaning, another game tease/announcement but what a shit thing that the only one more thing moment was Ridley being in Smash. I mean, Smash fans where in absolute heaven with this wich is great, but for everybody else was ehhhhh... "Why should I be excited that a pterodactyl is in Smash???"
When you don't even show how is the new Yoshi game coming along and the fact that it already got delayed to 2019 when they said it'll launch on 2018, it means that things are not going as expected behind curtains and some bumpy roads have started to appear after a very succesful first year with the Switch. That and the other major concern too wich was no Retro's showing at all for the 5th E3 in a row. There's no doubt that Pokémon and Smash are going to sell tons of units this holiday but I can see why investors are kinda skeptical after a not so great first half of 2018. Hoping for the best but at least my wallet is kinda safe for now, until Pokémon releases wich so far is the only game I have preordered.
Smash sells better than almost all first party titles so your comments make little sense. You're really reaching here man.you do realize Nintendo first party always sells a ton since all they have is first party, so people buy every game.
show me how many of those players still play the game a year after launch.

So what you're saying is that people like to buy good video games, and often move on to other games a year later. That's like, common sense dude. How does that change the fact that Smash is still going to sell a shit-load of copies?you do realize Nintendo first party always sells a ton since all they have is first party, so people buy every game.

They have Pokémon and Mario Party along with the evergreens. They are fine.the best selling game is still just one game and is limited by the market. they need more than just this one this year. that's why the drop in market value.
this is what the thread is about, but everyone just gets defensive as always.
It's kind of a dead year across the board. I don't think Nintendo fucked up, I think it was just their fortune to have Wii U games in the pipeline that could turn into Switch games, so the launch was unusually strong. After the megaton year that was 2017, the industry seems like it's having a collective hangover. I imagine Nintendo will put out a few unexpectedly big things in 2019.
Mario Tennis is significantly different. It is much stronger and complex in gameplay mechanics then ever before. Your talking about what could be the greatest Mario Sports game created review wise. What's wrong with Wii I ports?
It's still a lineup. Y'all downplay everything on this forum smh
I like how Octopath Traveler is also highlighted here and you are still going on about "same series"
I'm only responding to your comment about why Smash sells (because it's first party and there is nothing else to play), with that logic every first party games should have sales comparable to Smash.the best selling game is still just one game and is limited by the market. they need more than just this one this year. that's why the drop in market value.
this is what the thread is about, but everyone just gets defensive as always.
Yo, we got a starved for games post.you do realize Nintendo first party always sells a ton since all they have is first party, so people buy every game.

I do think this e3 was kind of the death knell for Nintendo being able to get interesting third party support.
Big third party games that should sell over 10m units coming up:
-Red Dead 2 (no)
-Battlefield 5 (no)
-Black Ops 4 (no)
-Division 2 (no)
-Anthem (no)
-KH3 (no)
-Assassin's Creed Odyssey (no)
-Madden 19 (no)
-2K19 (yes but a lesser version)
-Fifa 19 (yes but a lesser version)
And of course, some of these games would be really hard to do on Switch but then games like Sekiro or RE2 are... also skipping the Switch.
What? The amount of games on PS4 is absolutely insane.
It's the most relevant part. Look at every large studio that employs thousands and look at how many games release from them in a year. The fact of the matter is the games you want need hundreads is staff, and thousands of hours in development. You can see them try but there's very little they can do in that regard. Make smaller games like 3D World and Sushi Striker and people bitch it's not ambitious enough. Make large ambitious games like Prime 4 and people bitch that it's not finished yet. Nintendo alone outputs a lot as is but it's simply unrealistic to expect a Zelda or Mario caliber game every couple of months.Nobody is saying it's some effortless task. The fact that it is not easy is irrelevant.
Sony and ms don't have to develop/publish as many games because they have tons of third parties constantly releasing games of the same general size and features of Sony and ms's own publications, the vast majority of which, do not make it to switch.
If they insist on having a platform that the vast majority of third parties can't easily bring their top gane products too, if they insist on doing it with their own catalog, they need to have an actual fucking catalog, not a two page flyer.
They need to seriously expand their throughout to support their console with a comparable amount of entertainment.
you do realize Nintendo first party always sells a ton since all they have is first party, so people buy every game.
show me how many of those players still play the game a year after launch.
Well, a post with facts.
This is why Switch (or Nintendo home consoles in general) will never be as relevant as the other 2 consoles on the market.
You just confirmed his point there - did you actually read what you quoted?!Oh my god we have a new form of the Switch owners are hungry for games...Or you know they are good games?

Nintendo has like $9B in liquid assets (why, I have no idea) and hasn't started a western studio in 18 years.
.... They could be a bigger company.
Yep, Nintendo cant play the 1st party card.
They need to tell their 3DS devs to get their shit together and start consistently producing for the Switch to fill their 3rd party void. So far in 2018 that has been a massive failure

To be fair we knew that all those AAA titles wouldnt be on Switch before e3...or did you expect for EA to suddenly whip out a Anthem Switch version or KH3/CoD BO4 to happen when they just recently confirmed that there would be no Switch version ?
I'm legit reading the WiiU had good third party support. What biazaro world is this?
Obviously some of those games were too technically demanding for Switch, but games like Sekiro skipping the Switch is one of those moments where it's like... oh, I guess it's not going to get like 95% of the fairly big games.
KH3 and Black Ops 4 skipping Switch are also very bad signs for any retail third party support the Switch may have.
