Well if you normally pay $20 for a one time meal at a mediocre restaurant, $20 for a year of the online service is not a bad bargain in comparison. If people are scrounging for $20 on an online service... well they probably got other stuff in life to figure out.
If people are complaining about $20 for cloud saves, online play, and a collection of NES games with online features, they just might.$20 at a "fancy" restauraurant". HAHAHA what's fancy to you, Denny's?
If you want to use voice chat in the game, you need to use this abomination of a headset, in case you forgot;
I'd thank you from refrain from name-calling. No, I'm not being an elitist - the browser is utter crap and I never use it for that reason. You're allowed to think differently, but I'm not calling you anything because of that. You're just being a elitist with the browser talk. It's more than serviceable. It ain't no chrome or firefox or opera obviously. Nobody uses it like that.
I absolutely agree. My post was specifically about the online service, however. And yes those features are free on these consoles, so Nintendo should aim to match similar features, for free.
Again, I won't argue with you about the free stuff Nintendo doesn't have (yet?) on the Switch. My initial question was about how attractive is the Nintendo Online deal in face of PS+ and Xbox Live. And in that regard, well, it's basically paying less for online + retro games versus paying more for online + newer games. And while I obviously would rather pay less, I think both are crap, which is why I don't understand anyone thinking Nintendo's deal is terrible while the others are good for some reason.I actually think this initial price offering is good and a great deal, however inviting the comparison seems more like scapegoating with a "well I prefer wah wah wah" rather than actual intent on saying "hey look, these people offer this already, and this is what Nintendo should at least aim for" regardless of which parts are free or not.
I do understand that, in this case, one thing leads to another, and as such people are bound to discuss the Switch's shortcomings outside the Nintendo Online program. It's just that this has nothing to do with my initial question that you replied to, which pertained exclusively to figuring out how "worth it" people think each online program is, and why. There's both free and paid material for online that Nintendo has to address, so inviting the comparison inevitably brings both around anyway. I just wanted to recommend not to do that, because it will devolve into "what I prefer" nonsense posts with people defending other consoles, or like you getting defensive a bit about Nintendo's offering.
try like 400.There are like 4 NES games that are still good and they all have either Mega Man or Mario in them.

So that is what it has come to? Not even discounts are good enough unless it reaches a certain percentage. I like saving money. Whether it is 10 percent or 30 percent.
Can we stop using objectively? Because for others 20 bucks a year for a Netflix style sub service of getting classic games in waves, discounts, and cloud saves is a pretty cool with a good price.
If you want to bring up local USB backup saving, that is fair, but that is also a separate issue.

The price doesn't upset me - it's bloody cheap really compared to other services. What gets me is that they're still insisting we use that app. Which is so breathtakingly bad I don't even know where to begin. I almost wonder whether they're troling us all and they're going to unveil a total revamp of the app at E3 because.... At the moment it's fricking awful and they've not updated it in about 7 months and have added literally no functionality beyond it not CUTTING YOUR CALL OFF when it goes to sleep... Something phones have had cracked for the last 10 years at least. I would also be fine with using an app for voice chat.. If the app actually worked even close to as well as Discord.

Right, and those jamocha shakes aren't bad too.
I think the NES games being offered with the service will use it. But no, other than that and Splatoon 2 there aren't any announced games with the service.Watch multiplayer games like Mario party not have online.
Any word on games like Tennis, Smash, Arms, Kart actually using the app?
To be honest the insistence on using that garbage app is the worst thing about the online.
System level lobbies and chat between friends too hard for Nintendo. It's worthless in itsi current implementation.
Maybe if they're all on a strict diet
They haven't released the final version of the app yet, the final version of this service isn't coming until September, so yes it's going to be different. As you said, they haven't been updating the release app. It's not trolling, they haven't revealed the updated app yet, the existing one was a beta app designed to kinda show what could be done with Splatoon 2, they were very clear about that.I almost wonder whether they're troling us all and they're going to unveil a total revamp of the app at E3 because.... For the first time ever, players will be able to enjoy these classic NES games online. Depending on the game, players can engage in online competitive or co-op multiplayer, or take turns controlling the action. Friends can even watch each other play single-player games online, and "pass the controller" at any time. Every classic NES game will support voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app*.
I should have died years ag---------

Have we got a source where Nintendo state the app is indeed "just a beta" and that a full release client will launch with the online service?
I mean great if so but I feel like they need to show it at E3 to start winning some goodwill back...
Welp, guess I'll be getting a Switch soon. This just sold me big time!
Exactly......EGG-ZACK-LEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Finally, someone else who is excited by this as me. Being able to pass the controller in the original Zelda online. How awesome is that?
Granted, this may be because I can't really have these kinds of experiences in person anymore, being an old dude with a job and all that.
