Media Create Sales: Week 4, 2024 (Jan 22 - Jan 28)

Media Create Sales: Week 4, 2024 (Jan 22 - Jan 28) ___ Famitsu Sales: Week 4, 2024 (Jan 22 - Jan 28) 01./00. [PS5] Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Sega) {2024.01.26} (¥8.800) - 102.940 / NEW 02./00. [NSW] Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island (Spike Chunsoft)...

Top 3 systems in Japan.

1. DS - 32,990,000
2. GB/GBC - 32,470,000
3. Nintendo Switch - 32.027.938

It's crazy how much GB sold in Japan, but yeah, the Switch is almost the best-selling console ever in Japan.

100% it happens, its not like the Switch will instantly stop being sold even when the next one comes out.

There are 1m+ units sold through MyNintendo Store which are not accounted for in Famitsu data so Switch is already above 33m units. It will easily reach 36m units when it's all said and done.

This. Next quarter numbers (on the 6th IIRC) could show that Switch has already passed DS numbers in Japan.

Insane, remember when 3rd party were worried it would not do good (even the CEO of Pokémon Company), or when the "Switch story has been exhausted" appeared in 2018 (yep not even 2 years in)

Bloomberg: Switch loses shine as killer product for new gaming era, analysts suggest price cut

The Pokémon company is so weird. I know Nintendo co owns them, but how they operate pseudo independently hurts their product IMO.

Still have my theory that Pokemon Lets Go started out as a mobile game cuz TPC AND Gamefreak had no faith in the Switch succeeding and then they pivoted hard mid development when it was

That and their very weak graphical chops compared to other Nintendo teams too. Nintendo needs to completely take over the video game side honestly.

Amazing run for the Switch in Japan, and it probably still has a FULL YEAR and one last holiday of sales.

It's probably my favorite Nintendo handheld since the Gameboy color.

What I find completely insane is that Japan is a ~125m people country, so basically one out of every four citizens own a Switch (I guess there can be double counting, but still). Is there any other country that has had a console owned by such a large percentage of its population?

So if it keeps selling at 40k a week, it'd take around 24 weeks / 6 months to reach that. Just in time for Switch 2 I guess :p

Very likely that it'll happen. What a incredible bounce back from the Wii U.

Goddamn that 1/2/3 lol. Japan loves it's Nintendo handhelds - extremely evenly at that lol. Switch is gonna sail past that though. What a beast of a generation.
