I know the title is making some assumptions since a. it's not easy to get a gun everywhere in the US and b. the US isn't the only country where it can be easy to get them, but assuming most of the board lives in countries where it's at least more difficult if not borderline impossible, would you get a gun if it were easier to do so? Or if it's already not that difficult where you are and you are not currently a gun owner, have you ever considered it? This can be for any reason but I assume most of the yes answers would be for reasons besides self-defense.

I've never been interested in one for 'self defense' or whatever but I've sometimes thought owning a .22lr pistol or a benelli or something for range use might be fun.

No, I don't want to be part of the problem.

whatever peace of mind it would give to have a gun is not worth knowing that there are tons more of guns in circulation out there.

I would not. If i'd get an itch for fun with target practice, I'd get a bow or something.. This should not be an option.

Nope, never fired a gun, don't feel the need to start right now. With that said, I do plan to go to a shooting range to practica and learn how to hold them and use them just out of curiosity and for general knowledge, but si don't think I'll ever get one.

Nah. I can't think of a single reason why I would need a gun. Of course that ignores the hobby/target shooting aspect, maybe if I had a go at shooting guns I'd enjoy it and want to go range shooting or something. Then it's less about need and more about want.

No. No matter what reason I'd be getting it for, I don't want guns around this country and wouldn't contribute to it.

It's perfectly feasible where I live but no, I have no desire to ever own a gun.

Going to assume most countries will say no. I don't need a method of killing things in my life. We have police to deal with issues and most places murder rate is significantly lower without guns. (UK here and never met someone who wanted one).

LOL, no. For what reason? You should not have a reason to need a gun in a civilised society and only psychopaths would actually *want* to own something designed to kill if you remove the self defence excuse.

Yes I would, I've fired several handguns in the past and I could easily get one if I wanted one. It's a very low priority for me to get since I don't find shooting them that enjoyable, realize the huge risk vs minimal reward of owning one, and am not thrilled of the cost of buying one and the ammo to go with it.

I would also lose no sleep if I owned a gun and the government said I could no longer own it.

No, of course not.

I would not own a gun even if my country had US-like ease of acquisition of weapons, US-like gun ownership rates and US-like gun crime rates.

UK here and no it seems like a waste of money and something quite dangerous to keep in your house. I don't think I've ever really considered it as an option to be honest.

Noooope. Someone I know whose family had a gun had their house broken in and were held at gunpoint. By far the thing that stuck with me most about their story was their fear of having their guns found and making the burglars panic escalating a situation that has so far been non-violent (except for, you know, the break-in).

On a more principled level, there's no way I'm giving more money to local gun stores. There's one within a kilometer from my home and it's only ever given me anxiety.

Spaniard here.

No.

And I hope it NEVER becomes ANY easier to get a gun here. In fact, I hope it becomes even harder or straight up impossible to own a gun. (right now you need a special permit that requires passing various exams and costs a lot of money and there are strict rules on where you have to keep your gun and the ammo and the police can randomly go to your home and check if you're following the rules, and the very moment you do anything wrong your gun permit is revoked forever and fuck you.)

The only purpose of guns is killing people. There's no reason for them to be integrated in society. There's no need. We are good, thanks.

Why would I want to endanger myself and those close to me ? That's the only thing a gun can do...

Not really. In my country you get arrested if you kill someone who is trying to rob you, so there's no point.

No I have no need or desire to have a gun. The police in my country don't even carry guns, except for specialist armed units. There is no gun culture here and I'm so glad of that.

Cowboys are best left in the world of film. I admire the craft of firearms and enjoy using them at ranges but that doesn't supplant my beliefs that most people shouldn't own them.

(US comment) If I had a full indoor shooting range and tens of millions of dollars I'd probably buy some for range shooting.

I'll break the c-c-c-combo and go for yeah, definitely.

Though no way I'd get anything capable of inflicting serious damage if stolen.

I'd likely get a bunch of flintlock single-shot blackpowder muzzleloaders, maybe a pinfire or two, and a Chiappa Little Badger Deluxe.

I have a cousin who owns a hand gun. Keeps it on him loaded all the time. Dude forgets it at his dads house when he visits sometimes. Or maybe he'll visit his brother and he'll put it on a high shelf, and then forget it there. He apparently can't go anywhere without it. If his job found out he would be fired on the spot. Then last week he shows me a pic of an automatic assault rifle. Its freaking scary man. I don't like being around him anymore because of it. I just recently found out hes anti vaccine too. I'm just smh all the time.
