Comparing this with WW numbers is interesting. I assume Sony has made great strides in "ROW" markets?

Considering the PS3 outsold the 360 based on what I've read here it's actually not that bad that the Xbox is right behind it

Yeah. it should overtake PS1 before it stops selling . Wii, X360 and PS2 are impossible though.
Sony wasn't competitive enough in US, it's actually stupid of Sony not to have gone ham.
I'd imagine it being the first HD console (and having a year head start on the PS3) helped a lot. That launch lineup was badddd.

Yeah, that has helped bump their overall number quite a bit.
I still think that controller may be the best of all time

It had halo 3 which was the most popular game in the world for a good time and call of duty mixed with ps3 having bad online at a time when online shooters were really taking off and there you go
4 PlayStations in the Top 7 is nutty.

This is US only. It was never gonna be downright horrible like in the rest of the world.
Those late years when Wii fell off and kinect gave 360 a 2nd wind.
360 was really the anglophiles console of choice. I forget sometimes how much more popular it was than PS3 in english speaking countries.
X360 peaked in 2011 in US and sold around 7.3 million units that year. Same as if PS4 would peak this year. it had crazy late gen sales.
Yeah but honestly that's their target audience. Xbox is never ever ever going to sell in a place like Chile . Just ain't happening
I remember buying one of those slim PSOne consoles along with the LCD screen that you could attach to it to make it a semi-portable system at a Kmart in 2004 or 2005. It wasn't that I needed either thing, but it was hard to pass up at like $30 total.
They're the only one that's never had a disappointing home console– the PS3 was their worst (but worth owning at the end), but other than that all of their consoles have been must owns imo.
Damn. Wii U doesn't even make the list. Like not even #8.

Does the installed base mean that these consoles are working (and are being used)?

RoW is one of Sony's key markets. They get massive sales from those regions.
XB1 will outsell PS3 this year.

I think it does well in Brazil and Mexico? Correct me if i'm wrong. It's not impossible for Xbox to gain relevance outside of the anglosphere, but they kinda have to try.
I'm surprised Wii is behind 360. I know 360 outsold Wii in the end but I thought Wii would still have been ahead at this point.

I miss the 360 days honestly, i have 2 of the slims still.........been meaning to give one to a buddy for his dynasty warriors 4 binge.
360 was absolutely massive when it launched........PS3 screwed up that launch so hard. I remember chipping in halfway on my birthday to get gears and a 360. Mass Effects, GTA IV, JRPG's!!!!!
the thing was an all around beast those first 3 years, there was nothing compared to it here in the states. Microsoft did so much right outside of the red ring, its been an interesting rollercoaster.
But i will always love playing Test Drive Unlimited online without party chat being a thing, cruising and making friends. Back when people actually socialized outside their little party bubbles these days.

71 months is 5 years and 11 months. At this point in time the 360 got a second wind by shifting some of their focus to family oriented gaming with the release of Kinect. And the Wii was starting to see some decline.
