June 2019 NPD: Super Mario and Crash Bandicoot top the chart

It's time for the June 2019 NPD report for the video games industry. Super Mario Maker 2 came out on top for the month, and Crash Team Racing was No. 2.

June 2019 Breakdown:
  • Total: $959m (down 13% from $1.1b in June 2018)
  • Hardware: $235m (down 33% from $350m in June 2018)
  • PC and console software: $386m (down 1% from $388m in June 2018)
  • Accessories: $338m (down 7% from $362m in June 2018)

"Year-to-date spending across tracked video game hardware, software, accessories, and game cards has fallen 4 percent when compared to 2018, to $5.6 billion," said Piscatella. "Declines in hardware spending have offset growth in sales of accessories & game cards."

Spider-Man must have sold a TON of copies in June to make it to #7 since this is revenue based. It was only $20 just like God of War which made it to #20.

Impressed that Super Mario Maker 2 was #1 for the month without digital included and the fact that New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe made Top 20.

GoW appearing in a revenue based list is impressive, Spider-Man being that high also is just crazy since both games were discounted for days of play.

SMM2 off to a great start. Thought DG would be much higher cause of Days of Play.

Yayyyyy Crash. It deserves the sales.

And Mario Maker of course is the best. Great month.

Persona Q2 is the top-selling 3DS game for June. Is that the last major release for the system?

congrats to mario maker 2.
switch games being on top is always more impressive to me since download numbers aren't counted.

The legs on MK and Smash are fucking insane for fighting games. Not surprising really but still insane.

I can't believe people thought Crash had a chance to beat SMM2

Smash Ultimate has now only been outsold by 5 games in 2019 despite its record breaking launch numbers not included, no price cuts, being an exclusive and not having its (probably very high by Nintendo standards) digital sales included. Quite remarkable.

Zelda at 13 is just amazing. I honestly didn't think we would see another day where Zelda is such a force. What a great game.

I'm impressed that NBA 2k was in the top 10 because wasn't that game THREE BUCKS for part of the reporting period?

Also, seven out of the top nine are on Switch. That's nuts.

Niche-Man sneaking back into the top 10 is impressive.

Days Gone also with the solid holdover. I know it had a $20 price cut for Days of Play, but I'm glad it seems to be performing well for Sony Bend.

Minecraft #5 without digital sales (surely the vast majority of sales) on the two biggest consoles? Yikes. And this is revenue not units right?

Kinda feel like this was a dead month (besides Mario Maker) on top of physical dying more every month. Minecraft and Spider Man kinda confirm it

Also it's a little annoying that the Sony exclusives are #7 and 10 and will receive far more comments than the titles above them, as always...

Not to mention price cuts don't give as big boost in NPD charts nowadays because these are revenue based.

Pretty crazy considering in UK it wasn't even close to N'sane trilogy launch. And that was PS4 only launch. Big difference between the two markets.

Crash was the first video game I purchased on launch date since god of war. Really awesome racer.
