Those Germany and Spain charts for August are ridiculous for Nintendo. Mario Maker 2 topping August is crazy.

The Week 37 chart in France is the rare no show for Nintendo. We have talked about Link's Awakening, but that is a real good UK debut.

FIFA will be coming to clear house next week everywhere.

So eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer has both "football" and "soccer" in the title. Now that's how you pander to both parts of the world.

Pretty sad tbh that the version that clearly got more budget/effort sold worse.

+ Said version was also less expensive at retail.

I honestly don't have an explanation for this. Sure we might only be talking a hundred units difference but still, literally everything pointing to the PS4 version being the highest selling version and... it might not be.

I mean, the same happened with Tales of Vesperia. I considered this possible (though not the most likely outcome per se) myself.

The difference might not even be in the hundreds that low in the chart. Really bad performance all round, I can't imagine it did big numbers digitally either.

after the re-release flopping and the film bombing, i wonder if making a 3rd entry in the NNK series makes financial sense.

Forgot to mention that.

Tales of Vesperia was actually a good port at least. Ni No Kuni literally runs exactly the same undocked and docked.(Doesn't it?)
Blame PS4 owners.

I happily blame myself.

I'm probably going to blame Switch owners for supporting subpar efforts to be honest.

Apparently the port is solid.

In what sense?

It apparently isn't a downgrade from PS3 or a glitchy mess(both of which were suspected) but that's a very low bar to hit.

Not taking advantage of the extra resources in docked mode(over both PS3 and undocked Switch) instantly qualifies it as a poor port in my eyes.

Apparently Nintendo Switch Lite only sold 4.000 units in Spain, that seems very underwhelming, less than a third of UK.

The weird thing is that the way Rubén talked it seems it was what Nintendo was expecting. I felt very surprised when I went to buy it and didn't feel at all there was a new hardware launch. Not great exposure, no big adds.

Apparently they significantly upped their initial shipment to 30k-45k. If they are not pushing the model right now, it is because they are expecting better return on investment later on (around Pokemon ?)

Nintendo did this before and multiple times. They are shipping more units to be more prepared for the holiday season when they clearly expect the Lite model to sell very well.

My "issue" with the Switch Lite is that he is "just" an handled. Yes it's capable of playing AAA games which were impossible to find on handled in the past generations ( even though with PSP we had very similar games such as GTA Liberty City Stories for example or God of War ) but it doesn't have the same value proposition of the regular Switch ( home console that you can use everywhere ).

We'll see how it will perform in the next months.

Isn't this the same region where Nintendo tripled stock right before launch due to massive preorders...??!

Edit: yeah I guess it makes sense that they decided to stock more in preparation for Pokémon and holidays. Just a bit strange they increased it so late and supposedly because of preorders

Yes, it is the same in France too. They are shipping 400k units at launch there.
Yeah they did the same thing in Switch first and second year ( also with the 3DS ) . When i was looking at japan and usa sold through data i always thought they were shipping too many units. In fact shipments slowed down a bit in the following months ( because they were preparing the new updated model as well ).

I just came back from buying DQ XI S and it's similar, not only Switch lite is missing, DQXI or Code Vein have 0 presence too. FIFA 20 is getting all the attention

Nothing can save Code Vein but I would not worry about Dragon Quest XI S, it will have a good launch. Regarding FIFA 20 I will lose hope in humanity if the Switch edition has a launch comparable with previous entries. I wish it sold 0 units.

It's the usual legacy shit from EA?

Fifa 19 is the worst football game of all time.

More info from that podcast:
- Turquoise was the best selling Lite color, followed by Grey and then Yellow.
- Big discounts are expected for other consoles during next weeks until Black Friday.

For those who missed it, GamesIndustry.biz has posted the UK chart: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-09-29-fifa-20-and-xbox-one-dominate-uk-charts

7% drop for FIFA 20 in the UK, compared to FIFA 19 last year. Unbelievable how loyal that fanbase is, considering the amount of criticism the new entry has, not just from the press, but from players as well.

Big bumps for Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3, thanks to new hardware bundle deals with FIFA.

Dragon Quest XI S debuts on No. 11. Sales are about half of the launch week sales of the PS4 version.

Link's Awakening dropped 62% in its second week.
Borderlands 3 dropped 45% in its third week, after sales fell 69% in its second week.

I expect a lot of hot takes on the bolded.

Also worth mentioning that Code Vein hit 14 in the charts. Not a great start but much better than God Eater 3!

Just shows the impact of bundles on these charts. It's incredibly silly that a 36 months old game, that's not GTA V or Minecraft, can chart top 10.

that's a pretty great hold for zelda, especially considering all the activity happening on other platforms this week. I'm surprised that dragon quest opened higher than code vein, but both seem to have had quite mediocre launches it seems (at least in the UK, that is).

i wonder if fifa is actually up YOY with digital

Edit: actually, without numbers, for all we know DQ and CV could have done really well. The sales needed to be in the top ten for example would be notably higher this week than it was for any week in recent memory

The PS4 version of Dragon Quest XI debuted at No.2, behind Marvel's Spider-Man (which launched the same week), and above Grand Theft Auto V.
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...pider-man-is-fastest-selling-game-of-the-year

Selling half of that doesn't look like a disaster to me, though I have to admit that I expected a bit better performance. Maybe that has to do with the climate of the Switch in the UK in general, but I'm not familiar with how the Switch is doing over there.

Was the 169.99 bundle one with SoT, FH4, and Minecraft or 3 separate bundles?

If it was one bundle it would meant SoT sold more than Minecraft without the bundle included which would be rare.

62% drop is very solid for a week 2, most games drop over 70%

Nah it's doing great actually. One of the few surprises this year.
