Boy, this comic strip consistently makes me laugh
I thought comic strips couldn't do that anymore

Same here, it's great. Honestly gave me a kick to get back into comics I'm general. I think I'll go dig into some of my old stuff. Maybe pick up a Get Fuzzy, or Calvin and Hobbes. I always enjoyed those and it's been a long time.Gotta admit, I'm with the majority of you here. I find these new strips highly amusing.
Never knew about Nancy before this thread, either. Perhaps I'll check out the classic strips.
Get Fuzzy was for people who liked the idea that their pets could talk much more than they liked jokesSame here, it's great. Honestly gave me a kick to get back into comics I'm general. This seals it, Olivia Jaimes was once a teacher for sure
Surely. I need to show my friend who is a teacher that comic. She'll get a laugh outta that.
These are terrible, but people here will eat it up because fuck them old farts am I right
I was wondering in the first two panels why she was using such an old monitor, but county math test explains everything.
That's because as good as some of these other strips are, the bot one is still the best.
This Aunt doesn't even sit around looking really sexy talking about Elvis and how kids nowadays don't watch Happy Days!

nofunallowed.jpegMy fiancee is a teacher and this is not accurate. A better answer for the middle panel would be "The low pay and lack of institutional support."
This middle panel supports the widely held belief that teaching is a calling, which is the reason society gets away with paying them so little. It's a damaging perspective.
My RL friend who is teacher also liked it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯The teacher fiends of mine on facebook all liked that strip when I posted it.

Well, to be fair, she hasn't actually said anything yet. I reckon she's a Wu-Tang Clan fan.
I'm surprised it's pretty much a pure version of 1940's Fritzi, which seems a bit weird in the context of the teacher being Jaimes' own style - but then I think it's fair to point out that characters being a bit visually inconsistent is, well, a bit of a Nancy thing!

It's a joke about lost youth, not some political point. Also your proposed answer would be hamfisted, didactic, and not funny.
Sure, it can. I don't really want to disagree or argue with you about this since your experience as a teacher trumps mine as not-a-teacher. But I do think it's at least a little bit harmful to romanticize teaching as some kind of higher calling. Even if you feel like it is, you should be paid as though you're a highly skilled professional in a very in-demand field.
That middle panel is definitely the artist taking some influence from manga.
