Every single time we return to these characters I forget how much I miss being around them. Excited to see where it all goes, if the story is even on the level of Persona Q I'm gonna have an amazing time.

It actually only seems to unlock them for NG+, which makes it even worse as day 1 DLC.
Significant new game plus exclusive content is the worst Atlus thing. Especially with the enhanced versions of games. I already beat vanilla Persona 5 and Royal gives you random bullshit for having a vanilla save on your PS4. But there's still new game plus exclusive content. I don't need to carry over my weapons or money or social stats or compendium, just don't lock me out of content. Like vanilla Persona 5 was long enough as is. And why even bother playing new game plus if you know an enhanced version is coming out. And then by the time I beat Royal, I have no desire to go through all this shit for a third time.

Started today, wanted to play on hard but I'm on Normal just so I can clean up awards quicker, thankfully I can replay missions in the really rare occasion I miss one of the awards(I had one to defeat all enemies and forgot one in the other side of the map lmao)
Really love the gameplay BUT wish there was some form of movement extension like the team jumps in Mario+Rabbids, they would really fit the Persona vibe

Maybe I missed something on an explanation, but the attack "type" on the sub-Personas, what does that even do if they don't have a skill that applies that effect? For instance if it says "Burn" but they don't have any Agi skill...does that actually do anything or make any difference?

I apologize if this is a dumb question but does this game not have any other languages than setting the voices to Japanese? Can I not set this game to Spanish language? I genuinely believe I went through all the settings and can't find it, but I'm open to being blind and just missing it. I guess I should expect this game to deny me this just like P5 itself :(.

Was hoping Royal was a sign of the future here.

Anyone know how long the dlc side story is? Mostly wanted to do it to get Violet and Crow in the main story. Which i think you can?

i've skipped ALL the story stuff (don't hate me, I just wnated to try the game) and got to fusing. PRetty good first impression in the combat, like the systems and reward thing. It's crazy how many x-com likes there are now these days, i remember getting excited for rebel tactics on the gba ha

Since I'm gonna have to wait to get this, I decide to start playing Persona 5 Strikers. I'm early on but it just made me realize I really think this is the best cast outta Persona 3 -5. Persona 3 Remake could challenge that, but for now I just love the cast of P5

Haven't finished the main story but finished the DLC, it's just super mid.

Characters don't go through any sort of development, there isn't any fun banter to be had either. Story is forgettable. Music is eh. The unique gameplay feature got old real quick. The entire thing takes place on the same drab tileset and it takes around 4 hours to finish. If you're on the gamepass and you feel like you're missing out, honestly, just watch a youtube playthrough. It's really not worth it.

I actually really enjoyed that side quest map where you have to get Erina to the goal in one turn and it's a puzzle based on using the 1-mores, and using the other characters to position the enemies for her to hit them. I feel like there might be more of this type of thing and I definitely look forward to it. Interesting puzzle for sure.

(I had to)

I'm glad I didn't buy the DLC then, even though I would have loved to see Akechi and Yoshizawa again.

Yeah I expect you will get pretty good performance playing on Deck while docked. I could reduce TDP to 6 and still have a solid 40FPS (playing at 40Hz/40FPS).

Except in the Velvet Room...for some reason in the fusion menu, the framerate absolutely tanks, it's weird. The actual fusion animation doesn't though.
I thought I'd see how far I could push this when I returned to my Deck and my PC settings synced.

Everything maxed out at 4K, 200% resolution scale on the Deck has about 10fps in the menus.

Dropping the resolution scale to 100% at 4K got me about 15-30fps in menus and gameplay, so not really that good either.

1080p max settings has been super smooth so far. Running it at 1080p versus the Deck's native resolution also smooths out the aliasing on characters and text, so it's a tangible improvement to IQ with no performance loss.

Alas, you probably lose battery life running it like this, so pick your poison I guess.

And it needs to be said, this is very preliminary and anecdotal results from early in the game, and I'm in no way running a proper benchmark.

But I think I can say with confidence that if you have a Steam Deck docked to a 1080p display you can play this game exclusively on that hardware.

Surprised the OT is quite so dead considering it's on game pass, I won't have a chance to play until tonight

Is this going to be a decent enough experience for someone who never got sucked into turn based strategies before?

This has been pretty charming so far. Playing on Hard and it seems pretty breezy though, so far atleast (just got Ryuji and Haru).

I kind of cannot believe how expensive the DLC is considering its scale. Really is a shame we did not get Sophia and Zenkichi in it too.

I think it's been alright, but it really should've just been included with the game. Feels more like a ploy to get people to pay for aketchi and sumi.

Since you finished it, do you unlock those two right away for the main game, or do you need to be in new game plus to get them?

So, for someone who loved Persona up until 5, but ultimately found a lot of the characters to be poorly written and not interesting in P5...

Is there a chance I'll like this game? I love tactical combat games like this, but after an hour of playing and seeing Ryuji's still being a horndog and Yusuke continue his boring shtick, I'm reminded that I don't necessarily want to spend more time with these characters.

Does the gameplay get more interesting and varied? It's been pretty dead easy up to this point.

Edit: reading a lot of these comments makes it sound like I should back away now.

There was a pop-up on completion that said they would be available for new game plus.

And dlc is done. All together pretty disappointing for the price tag. Doesn't help that it ends by everyone forgetting what happened and walking away with nothing else to say. I'm sure the main story will be the same.

Well that's pretty disappointing. Kinda doubt I'll wanna do new game plus for this game. It's fun, but a little too simple to keep me engaged.

So wait are the effect labels/elements on the sub-Personas the replacement for Arcanas/demon races? As in they're basically determining fusion results?

I'm a little disappointed we don't even see the sub-Personas during combat. Like at least in the Q games, you would see a jpeg of the sub-Persona when it's used.

Sorry to double post, but I just moved from Deck to PC and it seems the game syncs graphics settings via Steam Cloud, meaning I'll need to set them every time I move between each system.

Why are developers still doing this in 2023?
Yeah this is a real pain in the ass. I don't even see this done that often but it's annoying when it switches me to full screen on my PC at 1280x720.

Haven't got to the gameplay yet but I like this new version of beneath the mask right at the start. What I don't like is these character portraits

Without spoilers please, can anyone answer me these questions:

- Does the game have the voice cast we know and love / is a lot of the game voiced?
- Where does the story take place relative to P5 and Strikers?

Thanks!

It has the same voice cast. Not fully voiced but there's a decent amount.

Its after the main events of P5 but before Joker leaves. So Strikers hasn't happened, and they ignore it anyway considering its not even part of the DLC.

Thank you! Is Royal content relevant to this or just base game P5?

Oddly enough I'm pretty sure they made a reference to Strikers when they talked about plans to do a beach trip that summer.

Surprised there isn't more talk about this, but I guess lots of people are playing SMRPG.

I'm slowly warming up to the art, but I generally don't enjoy this kind of style.

The vocal track for some battles is so damn good. Still early in the game but really enjoying it, playing it on Hard.

The side quests where you have one turn to complete the objective are some of the best IMO.

At 55% according to the PS5 tracker, this has been such a weird experience, love the artstyle and gameplay but everything else not so much, even the music has been quite mediocre compared to the other P5 titles

I like them but there's been times where me killing them all with a All out attack or not came to pure RNG with the damage values, kinda annoying when that happens.

This seems to have gotten a very muted reception on Steam. Only a few hundred reviews and 2k concurrent players at the moment. At least those who bought it seem to enjoy it.

Personally I'm waiting until it hits €30 or so, which seems like a more fitting price after reading impressions. Sounds like a bit of B/C-tier effort.

I fucking laughed so hard at the fact that her name is "Marie Anto"... They could not possibly be more on the nose lmao. Suddenly I understand why they have her name pronounced as "Mar-ee-ay"

I've been thinking about getting this. How is the tactical combat? Does it have enough difficulty and depth? I found Mario and rabbits a bit too easy and usually play XCOM games on the hard/hardest difficulty setting.

I'd like to know this too and also wonder if this is worth getting for someone who is not massively fond of the Persona 5 cast. Is this more of a fanservicey spin-off or is the tactical combat actually fun?
