The game released on PS3. It would only make sense to release the game on the Switch considering software sales on the platform. It would also make sense to release at least on PC, but Atlus....
A represent of the biggest, oldest and most successful japanese RPG-franchise in the art-style of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is boring? Pretty much brings "Goku" in the game (and Videl and Trunks).
A lot of the criticism comes from two main points: the relation to Sugiyama in general and the whole "another anime swordsman" argument. Despite those, however, DQ as a franchise is blatantly missing from Smash at this point and deserves representation over most other options, so I'd be pretty okay with their inclusion.
I like Dragon Quest and it's perfectly deserving of Smash representation but yes, its main characters are all very very boring
Let's wait and see, what Sakruai does with the concept. The Dragon Quest series and the hero class gives him and his team more options with the art-style and move-set then Fire Emblem characters (even so Robin and Corrin are already very original). But i agree, let's hope the next charatcers don't use swords.
Nothing in the leak suggests a platform.
They released P4 on PS2 in 2008. A PS2 game in 2008! They released both handheld versions on systems that weren't close to their competitors. Suffice to say I don't think they care who is leading in sheer numbers.
I would say that there is potential, at least for Loto/Erdick, because he's technically even more of a "mage knight" by default than those already in the game. Just make sure to give him stuff like "Sizzle", "Zap" and "Boom" to keep it interesting. Or you can pull a Ness and let him borrow some of his pals' Spells. You can even give him a Teleport spell as his Up+B.
It's an archetype that hasn't really come up in Smash, yet, so that's what I think could more than make a good case for him. And this is with me preferring the DQ5 main.
Crossing my fingers that Persona 5 Final Cut or whatever its called is multiplatform, PS4, Switch, Steam. Also, loads of extra content!

Eh. I know DQ is super popular. My beef is not with the series, but rather the character archetype. Sure, he could be a unique swordsman/mage combo, but we already have many variations of those.
I want to see more cartoony smash characters, they don't even have to be from series I like, as lo g as they look interesting and fun. More Pirahna Plant and K.Rool, less Erdrick and FE (even though I love FE).
I have a certain amount of disguised, irrational enmity towards Granblue Fantasy Versus. But soon.
Not directly but it says "Marketing of P5R" and I don't think they would release Joker as a fighter in Smash to market a Sony exclusive game. Unless they go ultra instinct Atlus then yeah anything is possible.
Well, it states that the inclusion is as marketing for P5R and P5U, which would be a strange thing to do if those titles were not coming to the platform you're doing the marketing on.
I mean, yeah? When people say "Goku," they mean "Goku." I'm talking Kamehameha's, instant transmissions, spirit bombs, being the most rushdown-enist rushdown on the roster.
There's nothing Erdrick brings to the table that any other Fantasy RPG character couldn't do. Erdrick sells themselves on nostalgia, & when you lack that nostalgia like most outside of Japan do, they're just a bland human with a sword that can do some magic. Dovahkiin can do that. Alis can do that. A WoW rep can do that. Heck, Dirk the Daring could do that & I'd argue he's way more important to the history of video games than Erdrick.

I wasn't that hyped for Mementos at first, thinking the Casino would be a better fit.
The idea grew on me though, and Mementos actually makes sense in a Smash game considering its nature.
I only hope it'll look really good and have enough of the wonderful P5's music.

I think the Slime would be more interesting as a fighter (potential for more unique fighting style than another swordfighter), but DQ is right now the most important franchise not yet represented in Smash.
