Yeah it's a blessing to have this community going. Hopefully I'll get my camera before Christmas so I can join y'all.

Are we going to have the Camera discussion in here also?

Is Sigma's AF underperforming? I haven't really heard anything but good things about their ART-series.
Dig deeper into the video reviews and a lot of people tend to say the AF is inconsistent. It's very lens specific at times, but between the 3 Sigma lenses I had the only accurate one was the 70-200. The 18-35 and 17-50 were garbage. It's either that or I ran far too low on my shutter speed, but even when I didn't those were a mess. Pretty much my thought process is Tamron or used first party.

Do you accept analog photographers in the club? Because if you do, it might be a good time to finally make a flickr account :3

Hello everyone! I've posted over at the SL&ENT photography thread, but figured I would also introduce myself here.
I've been a photographer for about 6ish years. The majority of my studio work combines photography with other mediums, such as 3D printing and scene construction. I also do projects such as paintings, graphic design work, and digital modeling.

I love this photo! As someone looking into photography, this is the kind of shot that makes me want to buy a camera right now and get going!

I am stuck in buyer paralysis. I like the idea of a Sony A6000 which you can now get with a kit lens for $550 or two lenses for $750. Everytime I get to the point of putting one into the cart I start thinking about how cool the slow speed and 4k is on the 6300. Argh. :)

Than you. I've gotten very ballsy with my candids lately. Granted it depends on where I'm at. I do have common sense with this for the most part. Nice to know that what I do can inspire people. Him and his wife were having a night on the town. Caught her taking his picture and just walked a little bit behind her and took the shot.

I find it really relaxing to take nature photos with my D500 and 70-300mm lens. Sometimes I put peanuts on my parents' deck to attract the neighborhood birds.

My Dad plants sunflowers in their backyard and they they make for some memorable photography opportunities.

I also like to go to local parks after work. Birds are spectacular in motion. To the eye, most of what they do is a blur but when you can freeze the action with a camera there's so much more to see.

Sometimes I'll just be walking around in a park and spot something I haven't seen before, like these caterpillars that look like yarn.

When I get a chance I also enjoy airshow and aircraft museum photography.

On the film photography front I love my Olympus XA which is one of the smallest 35mm cameras ever made and possibly the smallest 35mm rangefinder ever made. It's like the GBA Micro of 35mm film cameras. It has a fantastic 35mm f/2.8 lens and a sliding dust cover that means you can slip it in your pocket with easy but quickly slip it out and take a photo. These next photos are all 35mm film with the XA.

It's pricey but I use The Darkroom in Southern California for film processing. They do a great job scanning the images and quickly posting them online for download.

Great to see this thread going. I love watching all your photos and getting inspiration, lots of great stuff in here!

My camera has a huge stain on the sensor, making it nearly impossible to take photos. Hopefully I can have it fixed soon enough so I can get out shooting again. Been way too long now.

This thread makes me both anxious to delve into photography and more than a little intimidated. There are already some incredibly beautiful photos in here. Any recommendations for good books for learning about photography?

Some great shots. You got yourself another follower on Flickr :)

I'll re-post a few highlights from this year (all captured with my Canon 5D MK IV w/ a mix of glass). The osprey that was hanging around the pond seems to have moved on...probably ate too many of the fish lol. I've learned a lot more about ideal aperture, shutter speed, etc. as time has gone on and I've practiced. Some are fully in focus edge-to-edge, earlier ones...perhaps not :p

I don't generally post in these types of threads but figured a contribution can help move things along in this new space. I also have a question! Is there a gear thread yet?

Shot on a Fuji TX-2 with Cinestill 800 film and developed in C-41.

I'm finally back in the club. I am the poster formerly known as theepicoftyler.

I was in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula this week for work and was planning on spending the weekend shooting as I haven't had an opportunity to shoot in a while. However, the area got hit with a snowstorm and all my projects got cancelled and I was sent home.

Hopefully I will find some time to go back and edit some older photos soon to have something to post.

Hey everyone, I have a question. I have an elderly mother who I'm trying to encourage to take up creative habits that would be good for her mind and get her some exercise (and not let her arthritis get in the way), and since I love photography I thought that I could suggest that she lean into that a bit. She doesn't have a dslr, but she does have an iPhone 7. What I'm wondering is if anyone could recommend a good beginner's photography book that doesn't get too much into dslr specifics but helps her think about framing and lighting. Something that's easy for a person that's not very tech-savvy.

Not sure what you mean by "professional services like lifestyles." I don't really use it in my work kit. Film being expensive and all. I will say that I will never sell this camera as I adore it, that is, unless they release a digital version of it.
Professional as in self own business. Lifestyle is a type of portrait service i want to get in as well as landscape photography. Was just wondering if the camera was good for those things. So far from I'm seeing, it can

Does the forum software auto-scale images like back on GAF? My biggest pet peeve is people unnecessarily putting images in quotes to make them smaller. The images are TOO small in quotes and then are way too big when you expand them, especially if you're on a device with lower resolution (like a laptop, for example).

GAF was scaling images to the browser width for the last like 4 years, but people continued to put images in quotes and it was maddening when the images were huge. The same people would often make the images a link, so it would be a cluster.

Test below:

36066628082_52bb020074_o.jpg

Ahhh good. Let's try not to make the browsing experience worse with images in quotes. :p

It can handle that, yes. It has an adjustment period and kind of lends itself to a certain style.

I was originally introduced to it by a photographer I had the pleasure of working with. He took an amazing portrait of Ray Winstone with the Xpan version and once I saw that, I knew I wanted it. I'd say go for it. It isn't cheap but it's wonderful piece of kit. I still need to get the 30mm lens ( I have the 90mm and 45mm) but that thing costs as much as the camera if not more so I'll wait it out and get it eventually. Here's the shot of Ray Winstone that sold me on it:

I used to lurk over at the other site but I figured I'd join the group here. Glad to see some familiar faces posting in here. I don't really take photos anymore so I've just been using my iPhone occasionally to snap some photos here and there.

You spend hours and hours hiking to the perfect place and then realise you left your fancy fucking camera in the car and can only use your phone to take a picture :( . Looks really nice on an AMOLED screen at least.

Hey people, finally made the jump after a nice break from talking about video games and random BS. Planning to be less active overall but hopefully still share some photos and critques here, as this is my favorite thread.

Hopefully sharing photos from flickr here is same as it was on the other site. I'm pretty dumb with this shit.

My friend Cering was going to some EDM show so she was made-up all goofy. We went to lunch then took some photos in the park nearby before she had to go to the festival. I think the makeup didn't really fit the environment here, and it was a gloomy day overcast day. But I got a few decent ones I think. As always, critical feedback if you got it.

I love the last one the most. I wouldn't give up the D810 for much of anything. Numerous recalls D750 is a different story though, though I'd personally like to trade in my D600 towards either a D4 or D750.
