It was all but confirmed when we knew it would be let's go pikachu/let's go eevee. Trainer in the screenshot has an eevee on their head.
Wait until they see that a Switch runs for 330€, the game for 60€ and the controller is another 50€ more for a plastic ball with a stick and a button. It's literally the hardest sale ever for people that have been gaming on mobile phones for the last years
"This number is BIGGER than any 3DS Pokemon game" is not completely true. Sun Moon shipped the same amount, but those two should have the biggest day one shipment number for any Pokémon game.
FTFY
True. These are some pretty high expectations for the game regardless.
They announced, when they showed this off, that there's a far more traditional Pokemon game coming next year. So no, this isn't the base going forward. It's just a bridge for GO and lapsed players.
They're trying to have it both ways. If it was just a spin-off a lot of people would ignore it, but if they said it was a mainline game then more traditional fans would get angry at them. So they're trying to have it both ways by saying it's a mainline game, but it's not a mainline-mainline game.Messaging about this game is a bit off. From the press release:
" Pokémon also announced that the next introduction to its popular core RPG series, which was teased last year at E3, will arrive in late 2019 on Nintendo Switch for the first time."
The popular core RPG series will arive on Switch in late 2019 for the first time. At the same time they also say that this is mainline.
It's pretty clear imo that this is what they are going for. I remember reading a quote in which they said that "Let's Go was a core RPG for everyone" while the 2019 titles was a "core RPG for the traditional fanbase." Which makes sense: this game is styled like a mainline pokémon game, made by Gamefreak, and features the traditional battle system. Little reason not to call it mainline at the risk of positioning it as just a spinoff. They're trying to have it both ways. As terrible as I know it is, I want this game to bomb, just so GF stick with how it always been and not start to cater to dumbed down and trendy mobile philosophy.
According to marketing, yes (if they said that it was outright a spin off most people would ignore it). According to the information that can be read between lines, wait for the 2019 titles.
NaDid that Japanese Oha Shuta or something stream deliver any new tidbits, btw?

This potentially answers one of the questions I had, which was what Nintendo and TPC expected these games to sell. This implies that they're expecting it to sell similarly to recent mainline entries. It could gives us a rough idea of what success or failure looks like for these games."This number is BIGGER than any 3DS Pokemon game" is not completely true. You should note that Sun Moon shipped way more than X/Y did day one, while X/Y sold more than SunMoon worldwide, so it's not 1-to-1 comparable I feel. This potentially answers one of the questions I had, which was what Nintendo and TPC expected these games to sell. That's reassuring and everything I wanted to hear.
I was worried this was going to be our Pokémon moving forward and it would have been sad for me to drop the franchise after keeping up with it for years, but as an adult I just cannot enjoy the go implementation and dumbed down mechanic and stripped down features. I expect more from Pokémon switch and not less.

Ok cool. This is not what I want the series to be. I don't care if it's a spin off but no wild Pokémon fights?
Worth noting, they're expecting it to sell similarly to recent mainline series but much earlier in the system's lifecycle. This potentially answers one of the questions I had, which was what Nintendo and TPC expected these games to sell. That's why I was careful to not state anything definite. It's one thing that could or could not be suggestive of what Nintendo expects. And what Nintendo expects may not be what happens. I was just really curious as to what the expectation for these games were and this is the first thing that could give us an idea of what that is.You should note that Sun Moon shipped way more than X/Y did day one, while X/Y sold more than SunMoon worldwide, so it's not 1-to-1 comparable I feel.
Removing gameplay elements without a sufficient replacement isn't trimming the fat. It is dumbing down. You call it dumbed down I call it trimming the fat. GF is closely going to follow the perception of this game, and of people react positively to no random battles and the Go capturing mechanic, you can bet on it that those things are going to be in the 2019 title.
GF is testing the waters with this game.

It'd be more interesting to see comparison to how much X/Y shipped than Sun/Moon.
Cutting things out without replacing them is literally what trimming the fat means dude. They don't call it "replacing the fat"Removing gameplay elements without a sufficient replacement isn't trimming the fat. It is dumbing down.

Lies. Mega Evos would be great, especially if they all were technically available at the start. Why? Mega Evos would actually make using stuff like Beedrill viable. Beedrill is completely garbage, but having Mega Beedrill available? That would give it an actual shot. And the best thing is, crazy as it would be, it would probably actually be fairly balanced if it were available. Because on the one hand, yeah, it would be a lot stronger and faster than pretty much everything else available. But it would also still very much be a glass-cannon. And it's typing is still bad both defensively and offensively. And it's movepool is incredibly shallow. and it's a terrible matchup for Brock in particular. So it has all that standing against it. But having its Mega Form available would balance that out just enough for you to be able to use it against Brock and beat the odds if you really want to, and that would be cool, in my mind. And not having that option at all, and just being stuck with normal, wimpy Beedrill instead makes me a sad panda. :(

But what if you're wrong on every elementPersonally I always found It tedious and annoying, yeah I know there's repel, but I don't always want to use repel, and I don't want to see zubats and pidgeys every 3 seconds. It's also tedious to try and not kill a pokemon so you can catch it.
I also don't think that you're going to catch every pokemon like this, you're definitely going to battle Mewtwo going by the dramatic scenes in the trailer.
They might do something with trainers to make up for the wild battles being gone, maybe there will be more of them, rebattling them would be nice too.
I'm curious to see more.
Not everything needs to be awesome endgame badasses. Beedrill has a lower level requirement to evolve so it has its uses just like Butterfree. Besides, you can beat the game with any Pokemon. I beat the E4 with Butterfree in the original games and bugs were terrible back then.Lies. Mega Evos would be great, especially if they all were technically available at the start. Why? There are no evolutions of gen 1 pokemon from other gens. Which means no Crobat or Espeon for instance. No Mega Evolutions, but Regional Forms seem to live on, I like it

Gosh what is wrong with you people ?
They already said that the games next year won't be influenced by GO.
Is it impossible/unthinkable to have a more accessible game to help GO players, kids, lapsed players, family demographic to enjoy and discover the world of Pokemon ?
2D Mario didn't threaten 3D Mario despite selling way more during the Wii era. It is infuriating to read all these entitled comments knowing that a lot of new players are enthousiastic about the games and a craving to discover the franchise.
Removing redundant items is trimming the fat. Removing useless elements is trimming the fat
