Meanwhile, the actual space science called climate science is being destroyed by the administration to make sure Americans are not going to get their asses to Mars.
I hate, hate, hate this man, this party, and everything else.

This logo isn't actually that new, it's pretty much the same one that USAF Space Command has been using forever. I wore the same symbol on my beret flash when guarding nukes at Minot back in the mid 90's.

I feel that the framing of this as a purely Trump thing changes the discussion. The reality is that it has been considered for about 20 years and almost came to pass long before Trump. With that said, I think Trump more than anyone is to blame for people thinking this is his idea. Also the logo is not really that close to Star Trek when you look at other government/ military logos.

There is going to be a space craft deployed group of infantry soldiers.

They will be called Space Marines. They will be bald and be loyal only to the emperor and their primarch.

Actually it's the Star Trek logo that looks like a historical logo that's been around way longer than 2020

I don't know what's most hilarious, the logo itself or an actual president writing text like it's straight out of some satire.

"After consultation with our Great Military Leaders, designers, and others, I am pleased to present the new logo for the United States Space Force, the Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military!"

Who, with even two functioning brain cells, doesn't throw up in their mouth when reading that?

Can someone explain to me how the borders look in space? Can such Space Forces just do whaterver they want anywhere in space?

I was hoping they would at least have cool uniforms but those are just recycled. Lame.

I guess something like this would have been too on the nose:

A sixth branch that's actually a nothing department of one of the other five they're pretending to make to humor him and will never be used again when he's gone.

I'm sure this horse has been beaten to fucking death, but why do we need this?
When it was first seriously proposed back in 2001 the rationale was that space was becoming more and more important due to satellites (GPS, communication, spy satellites) and that the Air Force wasn't focusing on it enough as the Air Force would always prioritize manned fighter planes as that's what they always prioritize even at the expense of close air support. I think there's some merit to the idea although Trump's presentation of it is, unsurprisingly, poor.

Space has no borders because no one has the power projection to enforce them. In the best case scenario, you can treat like antartica: an inhospitable terrain left to it's own and shared by scientific curiosity.
