Well, I already changed to PC, but no, it would not stopping me from buying a Sony console for its exclusives.

It sucks if not BC, but not too bad if I only lose practicality of access of handful titles (exclusives) rather than my entire library (stuff on PC).

Nope

I'd enjoy it if it came but doesn't make or break anything for me. Now if they don't allow me to carry over my digital content that's a different story. I'd be less likely there day one.

Cross-play doesn't affect me at all, but I wish they'd change their mind on it just because it's better for many other people.
PlayStation gets the kind of games I like that the other consoles don't get, and that's not something I'd give up, even if the company has different 'ethics" than I do that I don't necessarily agree with.

Sonys policy for cross platform multiplayer sucks, but it's fine.

Sony's policy of holding third party accounts that they have no ownership over hostage is absolute bullshit.

But I'm in for PS5 day one because they have the exclusives I like most.

I don't love this policy, but as long as they keep allowing crossplay with PC then it isn't a huge deal in my eyes. As long as they keep getting the best games, that won't be enough to stop me from jumping in on the PS5. We will have to see what Microsoft brings to the table, I suppose.

Cross platform is super low on my list of priorities.
I've played many games that cross play with pc players and the experience hasn't been great.

If it happens , give me the option to stay within my ecosystem ... that's all i'm asking

Backwards compatibility , however matters way more for me.

Yep in a heartbeat. Don't care for their slow cinematic single player games, and I hate their lack of refunds. Their crossplay policy is just the icing on a urinal cake. But for MS to get my money, they need to continue to care about the hardware and how it relates first and foremost to gaming.

Nope, but I do my primary gaming on PC.

Sony doing stuff like that doesn't bother me because PC gaming already allows me the most freedom in gaming. So I can just use my Playstation for exclusive games and not worry about their features.

If I was solely a PS user though, I might think about having an Xbox and a PS, but to be completely honest, I'd have to really think about it. There is a lot of similar gaming there.

And who know how the next 2 consoles will be?

So you're saying that the wider gaming community do not play multiplayer games? Because this is what I'm talking about with my post. The majority in this thread are saying that they only play single player yet many multiplayer games are wildly successful so people must be playing them :)

The majority of people like myself mostly plays single-player games. I'm also an old-school gamer.

Only genres of games I don't care about so far, are FPS's & Sports.

No, you consider that a social interaction. I do not. I never believed that age old adage...

Nintendo fans have real friends.
Microsoft fans have online friends.
Sony fans have no friends.

And I will not generalize, but just wow at this thread. Eye opening indeed.

No. Crossplay isn't a compelling enough reason for me to abandon the platform. Only if the quality of their 1st party output declined. Based on their recent history, I don't see that happening.

You do realize, that single player games are wildly succesful as well, as proven by GOW selling 5 million in a month, and TLOU reaching 17 million in five years. It's not only the "ResetEra bubble" that buy them.

You aren't giving up that Tetris effect. Lumines isn't enough!

Absolutely, if it means they're going to continue locking accounts to their special system. My Fortnite account is locked to my PS4 and I've got all 3 consoles so it's really annoying me that they're even legally allowed to make Epic lock them.

As for cross play itself, it would be nice but it's definitely not a make or break thing.

No I buy only quality products and games to play. Sony is the only one that offers all at once and more I have friends with the same taste on my list so usually I don't have to ever worry about someone complaining they can't play their leapfrog tablet games with me or something. Still trying to figure out how Epic signed over their servers completely to Sony and letting them have thisnluch control over cross progression. First time I'm ever seeing it so I'm curios what went down that Sony is somehow "stopping" this

I have zero allegiance to any multinational corporation. I go with what looks the most attractive to me value and content-wise. I was all in on X360, and changed on a dime to Sony's camp when I saw a better product with a better price point. In the end, it was those two things and Bloodborne that made me pull the trigger.

If arrogant Sony rears its ugly head for the PS5, and Microsoft comes back humble and with an attractive product and software, it'll be adios Sony.

Once the Fortnite bubble bursts I doubt people will care for crossplay as much as they do now. If it ever got to the point that Sony felt it was costing them sales I'm sure they'd just flick a switch and make it happen. Imagine using Destiny's built in chat instead of PSN/Xbox chat for raids, that's what cross-play would mean. Yikes.

I don't personally know anyone with the other platforms for the cross play thing to be an issue. Nor do I fully understand why something that has been the norm for generations has suddenly become such a big issue. My multiplayer interactions are mostly through fighting games, which the majority are on Ps4

I play multiplayer games on PC. Would never pay for PS+ so this isn't an issue for me.

I never said that people don't play single player games...It's just that the majority in this thread are saying that they ONLY play single player games when multiplayer games such as CoD, Battlefield, Battlefront, Destiny among many others sell very well too.

Nope, don't care.

People make this a bigger deal then it is, and when Sony finally does it, the numbers of people actually using cross play will be a handful of the playerbase.

Not purchasing a PS5 because of backwards compatibility or UHD drive is understandable, but I don't understand why people would opt out over cross play.

Naw. It's shitty what Sony is doing but half the games I play are Sony exclusives. Compound that with the fact that I play very, very few multiplayer modes and my principles just aren't strong enough for me to throw away half my future purchases.

I usually buy all consoles of a generation anyway, but it would definitely make me buy multiplats on Xbox or the next Nintendo system before Sony.

Don't care for crossplatforn, and all my friends are on PS because of Sony's games, like me.

So until Nintendo start publishing more adult mature games, or Microsoft step up their first party game, I'm not jumping ship.

I play MP games occasionally, PVE mostly as PVP is of no interest to me (unless its asynchronous like in Let It Die), but it's not like the multiplayer gamers wouldn't play single player games as well. You could also say, that the majority of gamers overall will play single player games at least some of the time.

Anecdotally speaking, very few people among my 30-40 years old friends play online, and those who do have the same platform as me, PS4.

I think this is a better metric. Abandoning the platform is one thing, going else where for the games that do support this feature is another.
I will def be buying a PS5 but if all multiplayer games are crossplay on xbox, i'd just play those games there.

I will still get Playstation 5 for exclusive games, but for multi platform games I may get it elsewhere.

I just look at it the same as the platform-exclusive bonus content that every console manufacturer trying to get onto their platform (e.g. Link in Soul Calibur, VR RE7 for PS4, time exclusive for certain games...). And crossplay is one thing that Sony doesn't have.

all comes down to how sony handles backwards compatibility next gen
Man, I don't even know what I expect in that regard. Like, part of me thinks there's no way they don't support PS4, but another part of me is like... I dunno man haha.

If it is BC, it'll probably be the closest I come to buying a PlayStation. I keep saying I'll get one as my third console and then... don't.

Nope, I'll stick with Sony as long as they keep putting out amazing first party games. I don't give a damn about crossplay and I REALLY dislike GAAS. I think they should support crossplay but I'm not going to gimp my own enjoyment for something I don't give half a shite about. Everything Microsoft has to offer I can get on my PC.

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.
