Social Features:
Eurogamer said:
"We will have a social component but it's not your typical multiplayer," he said in our interview. "We're not quite ready to talk about it but we understand community is important, and we understand connecting with other gamers is important. But there's not a true what I call 'classic' multiplayer, so you're not running around together with your friends, because we feel we have enough hours of entertainment for your money. We feel like we have a good offering."

Service Model:
We already know, too, Rage 2 will be a live service, so a game kept alive by id Software with extra content after launch. But id Software has been vague about how.

"Our way of thinking is making the tail of the game longer," Willits said today. "Our fans put hundreds of hours of their lives into the game and we want to give them an experience worth their time. We have plans to do all sorts of things: free plus paid updates and obviously some dynamic elements."

Microtransactions:
Microtransactions?

"Ah... I don't know yet," he answered. "You need to be careful when you say things - like 'loot boxes'. 'Argh oh my god loot boxes!' We won't have loot boxes but yes we are trying to figure out how it will work. It's a balance: you don't want people to feel like you're trying to chase them for money but you want to give people the opportunity to have the experience they want and to extend that tail, so we're still working some of those plans out."

Man, I hate this kind of speech. Just makes my skin crawl.

Hopefully it's just cosmetic shit. The game looked great when they showed it at E3.

Perfect game for a borderlands style coop. Also, coop shooters are really lacking out there. Totally missed oppurtunity.

So microtransactions and am ongoing service with new content every now and then?
Will wait for the "service" to end before getting it in that case for full experience.

It's funny to hear them talk about "making the tail of the game longer", when the fans (on PC) have been doing that for years now. Let's just hope they don't lose their focus in all of this.

They need to be careful with the microtransactions in this imo -build the brand, not nickel and dime

Why are they still pretending this is anything more than corporate greed? Adding in micro-transactions does nothing other than tempt those with weaker wills to throw ridiculous amounts of money at the publishers. Of course they have to make a profit, but put out a decent game and they will do so, ridiculous!

Never say 'we won't have microtransaction' because if somehow you end up having them, people will latch on to it and forget about all the other good stuff.

No co-op? Game looks cool, but this was the kind of game I would've liked to play with my friend(s). I have enough single player games coming up. I'll probably wait on this then. Only reason I jump on some games earlier is to play while mp is relevant. Don't have to worry about that with this game.

Ack shit. Why must every game have an "extended tail end" and "enough hours of entertainment" the latter usually meaning artificial extension of play time through repetitive means.

Am I the only one left who just wants a 15-20 hour game tops (I'd be perfectly happy with 10 hours of top quality gameplay in an action title). I just want to play a game and then play the next game. I don't want to play one bloated out game for 50+ hours. The chance of me replaying a game also drops significantly if I feel it's just padded out to increasy play time.

I'm actually buying fewer AAA games and spending less in the process because every game is a 50+ hour thing where you could easily have shaven off 20 hours of filler shit for a tighter, better game.

Goddammit. This game was looking so good. :(

It's not a balance. If you have microtransaction in a game you already have to pay up front for, you are chasing people for their money no matter how 'friendly' and 'generous' they may seem.

Another thread where people complain about developers needing paid for ongoing work lol

In the """old days"" developers would move off a game when it was done, likely not even patching them. So your "one time purchase" was for "one time Work". That's not the case anymore, with many games having significant dev teams working away over a year after launch. Securing additional revenue is important.

Unless you would rather devs stopped supporting their games post-launch.

It's not that you're the only one, it's that there aren't quite enough people like you, and like 75%+ of the people who fall in your category buy these games at $30 or less, which really eats into the ability to cover costs even at a reasonable-on-paper number of units sold.

Of course, the question that comes up here is often "Why not lower the budget and price?", which most devs who want to work in that space actually do these days. People just don't think about them as much because companies also don't spend $20+ million advertising them.

Hoping they have expansions after launch ala AC Origins/Odyssey. I don't care if the game has micro-transactions or not simply because it's never ever effected me nor will it ever because I don't play online and that's where all of that stuff is implemented. Even in a game like AC Origins, micro-transactions had no effect on me or the 130 hours I put into the game. I simply ignore it all.

For RAGE 2 in general, im very hyped for the game. Just played and completed the original about two months ago and except for the horrible ending, I fully enjoyed the game. Great 8.0/10 for me and im expecting RAGE 2 to surpass the first game in every way. Can't wait!!!

I mean none of this sounds inherently bad, as someone excited before this news, im still excited. I hate loot boxes but im always down to support a game by buying good dlc is the game itself was great. Microtransactions while often very bad can be done well and I'll wait to pass judgement on it until we see how they're implemented. Its a necessary evil. As long as we know what we are buying and they didn't hamper the experience to force us to buy them, thats good in my book.

ehh, what?

Rage was a test bed for a lot of future stuff for bethesda, so I wouldn't be too surprised if Rage 2 also ends up being a test bed for future mechanics and systems.

as long as rage 2 doesnt end up as a "destiny" merged with " warframe" style mtx's i'll be fine.

Microtransactions are just fine. I mean, look at how many modern beloved games have them. It's a matter of ensuring that they don't majorly affect the gameplay experience for the base user, or change them very significantly but are worth it overall.

Microtransactions in a single player game are the worst. There's no better way to let everyone know how poorly designed your game is than these "time saver" MTs.

Considering this is an avalanche game, who excels in making horribly designed open worlds, this really lets me know how Rage 2 is going to be. Their games are fun on a basic level but their worlds really are the worst of the worst in design, even worse than ubisoft a lot of the time.
