So this tech wasn't expected to be out this quickly and runs a new game at 30/50 FPS at 1080p and people are moaning ? Literally no pleasing some people.
People often claim to want great leaps in technology rather than incremental advances.God damn, I did not expect to see any kind of real time ray tracing in games this decade. Lock that framerate to 30 and the performance is utterly insane.
I remember talking with people working on ray tracing for their graduate degrees a decade ago saying this would not be used for gaming as it required huge amounts of calculations for static scenarios, and this is now computed in real time gaming.
This is true. It's amazing how conservative PC gamers have become.
"Here's a brand new technology that could significantly improve game graphics"
"How dare you release this generation 1 hardware that doesn't allow me to get 4k@60fps"

Assuming they're not interested in real-time ray tracing, which doesn't seem to be true: https://wccftech.com/amds-open-source-vulkan-ray-tracing-engine-debuting-in-games-this-year/Well.............at least AMD will offer the option without it most likely lol...........I guess there is always a choice.
I am starting to think we will get a GTX 2060 instead of a RTX 2060...
The 1080Ti launched at $699
the 2080Ti which would be the successor is $1200
yes, looks about the same
Are you paying more? It looks like the same old price.
Edit - Ohhhh it is cheaper... GTX 1070
Was launched at $599... RTX 2070 is $499.
I miss the days of PC games pushing new tech year by year. You were almost excited that games ran like crap maxed out because it meant things were moving forward. This is bringing some of that excitement back for me.It's amazing how conservative PC gamers have become .

That is a pretty big strawman which you just build. Could you not post bullshit like this in the future?
According to OP, 2080ti is not even reaching 1080@60FPS, so please don't misinterpret the situation.
The GTX 1080ti was about $900, the "Launch" price of the RTX 2080ti is $999 and goes for the $1200 price. Titan V is $3000. The RTX 2080TI foundry is priced against Titan XP.
"Coming out of the box, the stock out of the box 1080 Ti is 35 percent faster than a 1080, faster than a TITAN X," Jen-Hsun said to raucous hoots from the crowd. "… and all of that for $699.
Gtx 1070 launch price was $450 founder, $379 non founders.
Gtx 2070 price is $599 founders, $499 non founders.
Gtx 1080 launch price was $699 founders, $599 non founders.
Gtx 2080 price is $799 founders, $699 non founders.
Gtx 1080 ti price was $699.
Gtx 2080 ti price is $999-$1200.
It's a price increase at every bracket. A shame to pay this much and not get as much performance increase as we could due to RT cores that aren't going to be all that usable if this performance is true.
Raytracing is when a frame of video is drawn by tracing the actual paths of photons through the scene. It allows for theoretically perfect lighting, shadows, and reflections, all of which have been huge performance drains in the past. Without raytracing, all three of those features are greatly simplified. A lot of work has been put into making simplified lighting look good, so the most graphical improvements you'll see are in shadows and reflections.
GTX 1080ti was launched a year after the original arch. The 1080Ti launched at $699
the 2080Ti which would be the successor is $1200
yes, looks about the same
I was comparing with FE prices that are know but I did mistook it :(

The push to create ray traced visuals predates nvidia.
No I just mistook the GTX 1070 launch prices... it was $429... GTX 1080 was $699... TITAN X that was the actual TI was $1200.and the 1080 was only $549.............Ethomaz must live in a country in Europe because the 10 series cards were INSANELY cheaper, half the cost.
If they released these with NON ray tech, they probably would be the same.
But that jump is too much for something not clearly ready for consumer use.

You are right I misplaced GTX 1070 price.Gtx 1070 launch price was $450 founder, $379 non founders.

Seattle. My friend bought it on amazon for $938 actually. The RTX 2080ti is a branding change IMO. This is basically the Titan T
Does no one realize how cheap the 10 series cards were?
The ONLY reason you saw $900 was because of bitcoin miners.....they did not launch at $900
THANK YOU
What is with arbitrary resolution/frame rate expectations?
We finally have real-time raytracing giving is realistic shadow blending, true off-screen reflections, and accurate shadow casting. All this and at HD resolutions, it has a frame rate >= 30 FPS. That's huge. It's even bigger of a deal if you work in animation.
TITAN was launched in August 2016... GTX 1080 in June or July 2016.until they announce the Titan 6 months from now......I think they announce titans in december to spring basically?
God RTX was not needed this soon
You are correct on the 2080Ti basically being the Titan equivalent launch since the 1080Ti was a revisiion.
But still a price increase across the board.....sadly
I would be very surprised if RTX couldn't use gsync while ray tracing. The variable performance should be made up for with variable refresh.Lol......sounds like an easy wait. I bet those benchmarks arent that impressive in standard use then.

These books are great, I double the recommendation. If you can't be bothered to check wikipedia, then maybe Peter Shirley's Ray-Tracing books, which are now available gratis.
But I thought raytracing was going to be free? That there were no performance hit with it?
Guess not.
In one month after release you couldn't find any 1080ti under 1000 euro. And that lasted until some months ago. So talking about how cheap are on paper helps nobody. It's like talking about how a 2080ti costs $999 but nobody can buy one at that price.
I wonder what the performance hit will be at 4K?
I'm excited about this tech, just not excited enough to spend $1200 on it. The 2070 and 2080 do RTX as well, and I wonder how they will perform.
I thought this too for some reason.
I was hoping for good RTX performance in this batch of cards since I plan on upgrading next year. If it's this low for RTX in a $1200 card, we probably won't have cards that can do RTX enabled 4K 60 FPS games by next year. :-(
At this rate we're not likely to have 4k 60 fps ray tracing for a lot of years. Unless there's a shortcut...
