Quantum of Solace is a must-play. Basically CoD 007 but still really good. Bloodstone is also really good as well, basically being an uncharted title for the platform.

You can skip legends tho. It's terrible and the aiming is broken (as in it feels terrible). Only reason to bother Is if you're a huge 007 fan but if you were, you'd have already played it lol
Qos was treyarch i think?

Just wanna add overkill to the list if you don't have it. I think it's worth grabbing the physical but the digital is a pretty solid deal.

On a side note one retro game I've been meaning to try is 428 shibuya scramble. The PC and PS4 ports are the only versions that have English as an option. I need to scoop it the next time it goes on sale.

It hurt my brain when you called this retro… but I mean…. Yeah I get it.

Had it for a while, I figure all it takes is one popular YouTuber playing and the game will explode.

Diving deeper into my old man "games were better in my day" phase, I find myself back on my original Xbox for some original Spidey 2 (the movie game). And yeah... this one holds up. Granted its still got some jank there with the combat especially (and indoor camera) but the swinging is still so darn good. Having played every game after it, its amazing how even Insomniac's games borrow heavily from basic ideas it developed. Its definitely got that "waste hours just swinging around" vibe going for it, I already know most of my time is just exploring and finding various medals around the city.
Oh, and Id not realised just how much countering you do in this game... like... it doesnt quite feel as slick as combat in later action games but you get a prompt above your head, hit a button to counter/dodge, and then continue your combo... gee that sure sounds awful familiar right Arkham? ;) (to be fair Arkham's combat is 100 times slicker in feel/control/response, but to everyone saying Spidey copied from Batman... well I guess they've got it round the wrong way!)
Also, it looks super crisp in 480p + Retrotink 4X!

As much as I liked Spidey 2 back in the day, I always liked Ultimate Spidey more.

Think i'm good with PS3 and Vita now.

Went through PSN for both and was surprised that there wasn't as much "missing" as I would've expected. Guess I did a decent job of grabbing stuff back in the day that was I was interested in.

Only real exclusive I have an eye on is Time and Eternity but i'm not willing to pay 50+ for it lol

I actually booted it up on Xbox yesterday haha. I think I'm swinging wrong, I don't remember it being like this.

I got up to the highest point in the map and admired how they got the whole city rendered with even cars. Sure, it's no doubt "faked" but the illusion is super effective. This game truly was nuts back in the day.

Yeah. Its a gigantic leap over the first movie game, which is basically a prettier version of the PS1 mechanics. This basically reinvented the series in the way that its still doing today. Doesnt seem like there's many (any?) load times once you get into the game either - just the one big map, with the freedom to swing around and "be Spidey". In a way Im impressed they get so much right first time for a free roaming Spidey game.

As much as I liked Spidey 2 back in the day, I always liked Ultimate Spidey more.

Graphically I prefer it, and definitely story/villain wise because I like Ultimate more than the movies. Only issue I have with Ultimate is that Green Goblin is completely bastardised in the game - he goes from a genius antagonist to basically the Hulk.

Haha yea. If it's considered as a ps4 gen game only I wouldn't say it's retro. I was just introduced to it before it got ported. The physical copies are always outside my budget

Question for my fellow collectors.

How do you clean the plastic sleeves on cases to get the best cleaning results.

Got 200+ PS2 and PS3 games to go through.

For anyone looking to pick up 360 stuff

Along with the 60+ games already discounted, Microsoft says it will update the sale with more games on June 18, 2024, and July 16, 2024, to bring "as many repriced games as possible before the end of July."

delistedgames.com

Those mysterious Xbox 360 discounts are actually permanent price reductions, and more are incoming!

Good news on those surprise Xbox 360 sales we reported on yesterday, they aren’t a glitch. The Xbox Wire news feed was updated on Tuesday with a post formally announcing the discounts that ea…

Pretty cool that they price reductions should last until the closure.
Going to guess MS is just asking Publishers "Hey, do you wanna put this on sale before we shut down?"

Should mean we see some of those other titles people want drop in price.

I didn't know windex is safe for cases. I'll need to give that a shot. I'm a stickler for clean and undamaged cases. I made sure all my CD based games have brand new cases because I couldn't stand cracked cases.

what are your Vita "hidden gems" that are still available on PSN? Always looking to round that collection out.

Time and Eternity was so cheap for so long, I'm a little surprised at the price now.

I mostly use Isopropyl alcohol 99.9% with make up cotton pads for cleaning cases. Isopropyl is overkill I guess but it works and I use that for cleaning carts and cd's anyway. And it comes in handy for removing stickers and the like. The nice thing is that it dries up very quickly.

Tiktok/Twitter blew it up after people posted gameplay of it looking cool. Was always something I wanted to grab that I really should've done so when it was cheaper lol.

As for Vita, I wouldn't say there's anything TOO hidden on the platform these days but some stuff I really liked (Not 100% on if they're on PSN still but going through my Trophy List, these are titles that stand out as not being too obvious besides Soul Sacrifice
- Unit 13 (Fun TPS in bite-sized missions)
- Soul Sacrifice/Soul Sacrifice Delta (Not sure if Delta gives you all the content from the original release but this is like the only "Hunting" games I've ever liked)
- Silent Hill Book of Memories (Yes, it's not a actual Silent Hill game but it's a fun enough top down dungeon crawler if you enjoy those. Not sure if it's still on PSN or what price it's at now though. $20 or less is fair though)
- Dead or Alive 5 Plus (Available on other platforms but it's pretty cool seeing it on the platform. A neat port like the other KT stuff on the platform)

Vita has the issue of a lot of the stuff being ported elsewhere, so you have to be REALLY interested in "downports" I feel for a good chunk of stuff

Book Of Memories is not on PSN anymore and a physical copy will set you back 75-80 bucks 💀

I am on the lookout for a Vita, but my copy of BoM is sealed and I probably don't want to open it 😅

Damn. Wish it was still on there. It's a fun little time when you get over the "This isn't SH".
Not necessarily worth the price though, as I imagine a lot of it is just people wanting it for their SH collection than actually playing it lol

Does cleaning them actually remove the cloudiness aspect? Feels like once DVD cases get a certain level of dirty or age, it's hard to get them back to a nice factory original sheen.

Think it's Console only now. You'll also need to use A PS4 or PS5 to add Funds that can be used on the PS3/Vita.

I will say, if you're able to. Adding a SSD to a PS3 is a game changer. The downloads are still slow as fuck but it makes the rest of the OS feel snappier, since you're pulling the max RW of the PS3 without worrying about the wear on the HDD

I was going to get an SSD for my new slim I bought, but everything I read said the bottleneck is in the PS3 and it doesn't really load games much faster with an SSD since it can't take advantage of it.

The PS3 is definitely a bottleneck on whatever you put in there, however you can definitely see increased performance compared to the stock HDD if that's what you're rocking. If you already updated the HDD at some other point, you're probably fine though. Especially if it was something better.

I bought a new 1TB hdd to install. Currently waiting on an OEM controller because my Retro Fighters won't get past the "press the PS button" screen.

The worst thing about the PS3 store- no wishlist and only ten items in a cart. I'll wait until the next shutdown scare to try to grab what I didn't the first time. I think it's mostly the PS1 Classics that I'm missing.

One thing about the PSN store is it hasn't really been maintained so a lot of stuff doesn't show up unless you specifically search for them. I know a lot of PS1 titles are missing but if you search PSONE they show up.

Yeah, it was a pain going through the other day.

Picking the "All Games" tab doesn't actually show you everything. Had to go into the "genres" and it seems like that does a better job of showing you everything, even if some titles overlap.

Is there any way to reverse a Yellow light of death on a PS3?

You'd have to take that to someone that does console repairs. I recall swapping out the HDD doesn't fix that issue as it's more of GPU/Thermal Paste thing.

www.ifixit.com

Yellow Light of Death Repair

Use this guide to potentially repair PlayStation 3s with the "Yellow Light of Death" error. This procedure may not completely revive your console....

I don't mind messing with the older consoles since they were built simply but the newer shit (360/PS3 and Up) are just a fucking pain to deal with disassembly wise if that kind of stuff isn't a legit hobby or profession.

Yeah its TERRIBLE. People online have specifically cataloged lists of things just because how awful the PS3 store is to search.

The YLOD is a generic warning of a serious hardware failure, which could be just about anything. Fortunately, the community has sort of recently learned how to diagnose this stuff and even switch GPUs or CPUs as needed, and reconfigure these older PS3 models to use the new hardware. You need either the services of a specialist or learn to become one, though.

At this point, probably better to get a PS3 Slim and just write the old one off unless you want to throw serious dough and/or time into getting the old one operational again.

YLOD just means hardware issue. Many times the issue is the solder between the chip and the board has fatigued and cracked due to incorrect solder being used in the first place - this is an issue with most PS3 until the super slim. It's almost impossible to fix permanently. But it may not be that.

Yeah. Franksteining in a 40nm into a backwards compatible console costs so much to do if you're not doing it yourself (and at that point you're paying for board heaters and your own time) that it's not really worth it. Just buy a PS2 and a working PS3 at that point.

Alright. Syphon Filter down.

I think it holds up....mostly. Sections of the later part of the game get kind of frustrating at times but its still a pretty ambitious spy action game for the PS1 era. I remembered how to get through most of the game but there were a few sections that took me a minute to figure out. All in all I would still give it a solid 8/10.

I feel I should play the Syphon Filter series one of these days reading the above... But Im already part way through so many other series replays Id be mad to do it right now lol. But sounds like a series Id enjoy.

Anyway, a days worth of play on Spidey 2 (movie) well spent. The more I play (and unlock more moves), the more I feel its aged incredibly well. The challenges are so much fun, as is the Pizza stuff (well, for now, I remember getting stuck on those eventually). There's too many collectibles though, but I feel building everything around Spidey's basic movement and swinging was smart, since it makes it insanely fun to play. I have doubts Ill manage all 150 challenges though (even just the normal times!), that's quite a tall order!

Thanks for this. So I can't add PSN credit vouchers on the web and then access that balance on the PS3?

Thanks for the SSD tip. I have a Super Slim but not sure if I had a different drive added to it. If I did, I sent it away for the job. Will need to check my emails, argh!!

Main reason to use an SSD (other than some minor gains and better texture streaming here and there) is it's one less mechanical device to fail and is much faster to back up down the line. Silent and cooler as well. SSDs are cheap enough these days to where the downsides of mechanical drives aren't worth the cost saving imo.

Is there any way to reverse a Yellow light of death on a PS3?

I have a BC enabled PS3 but I got a YLOD like four years ago, and it has been sitting (unplugged) in a drawer ever since.

Have it diagnosed and Frankenstein-modded and it will go from paperweight to somewhat usable and valuable museum piece. YLOD is inevitable on all PS3s with the 90 nm RSX (includes all BC models). The thermal paste inside and outside the BGAs has dried up long ago, so all these old BC PS3s can only handle a few minutes of being turned on unless they get major servicing (de-lidding). Even then you can't use them without setting a very aggressive (loud) fan curve since the default is inadequate at keeping the 90 nm RSX cool, and PS2 games will kill your system dead if you don't know what you're doing. It's not cheap, but the Frankenstein mod is sort of the only way to make the BC PS3s usable now. Eventually, the only BC PS3s left working will be Frankenstein-modded systems.
