Let's be honest... who here would back a government plan that would ban consumption of gasoline for cars and limit air travel? Oh and the corresponding lifestyle changes? In the next 12-15 years.
Are you serious? Without a second thought. Tax the rich more and go for it, it's not like it's technologically impossible.

This is technically correct but the obvious connotation of the phrase is that more fear is being generated than the reality of the situation poses, which is not the case here.
That doesn't change my general point, which I thought came across fairly clearly. These kids are being scared shitless and then used by the adults around them. It borders on child abuse, in my opinion.

Realistically, there was no way for this to go down with positive optics for Feinstein, who is generally a good politician and Senator, because children were never going to understand how things actually work and what needs to be done.

she layed the smackdown on those kids lmao

way to harsh imo

trump isn't even low enough to go out kids like this, he would deflect and blame someone else before he came at the kids themselves

Have you considered that these kids are rightfully afraid for their future and wanted to do this as well?

I'm not really sure why these types of arguments have to become tribalistic when there hasn't been any rejection of what either of the group of people are saying, the issue in this case is being simplified into "a particular bill" instead of a set of policies, as though the options are either "support the green new deal" or "kill the planet." There is room for discussion and debate here about the specifics, but again, this was a gotcha video full of the older kid cutting off Feinstein and Feinstein being dismissive. I dunno why the green new bill has now become "the only way to save the earth" in the eyes of many as though it's everything in it or nothing in it. I like Cortez and I like a lot of the ideas in it but I'm still being attacked here even though I never even expressed my views, it's that type of immediate kneejerk anger that prevents any reasonable conversation from ever taking place.

She have a bad day or what? Weird that a Senator would dismiss kids like that, they're probably gonna be eligible to vote soon and most politicians want voters. Then again, Feinstein is probably wanting to retire soon, maybe she doesn't give a fuck about appearances anymore. Still, not sure why you give up such an easy lay up to conservative talk shows to dunk on you and the rest of the party for looking like divisive idiots who talk down to kids who obviously want to learn more.

What is reasonable conversation in this matter?

Feinstein sounded a lot like Trump in that clip. People defending her in this thread sound a lot like MAGA-hats, too.

Saying "You didn't vote for me" to a 16 year old when she and her friends are trying to talk to you about the destruction of the planet ain't a good look.

We are back to having decorum when talking about these topics again?

This is a planned ambush to make Feinstein look bad. The group that orchestrated it wanted to make a video where pure-of-heart kids humbly ask Feinstein for help on climate change, and then the adults who planned the ambush get to act the part of spontaneously shocked teachers and parents while they spout obviously planned platitudes into the camera.

I hate these kinds of things, it insults my intelligence like I don't know what's really going on. I can understand Feinstein's frustration. These ambush groups are everywhere in D.C. and probably the only reason Feinstein stopped to speak to this group at all was because the group used kids as props and it would have looked even worse for Feinstein to totally ignore them.

Not really a fan of these kids being taught that their world will be destroyed in their lifetimes. North America won't be nearly as affected as other areas of the world.
LOVE TOO WRITE OFF THE DEATHS OF LITERAL BILLIONS OF HUMAN BEINGS BECAUSE AMERICA WON'T BE AS AFFECTED

So ambush aside, what's her problem with the GND? I haven't really been following the actual policy and information on it.

Yeah both sides. Like I understand that the climate is going to be totally fucked for future generations but what about people who want to keep doing things the way that got us into this situation?
I mean again, I don't understand why the internet response to "let's talk it out" has to be lol boogie both sides, choose or die. This was a clear hitjob from a group with an agenda using kids as props to get Web Hits by refusing to actually talk about anything and just keep spouting their lines. To answer the question in the thread, was Feinstein being snide? Uh yeah. Did the people who made the video actually wanna talk about policy? Nah.

Thankfully she saved herself when she reminded the children of how many million votes she won(?)

i hate it when i'm ambushed by someone trying to make me look bad by asking me to do the impossible (explain something and not be rude toward children), and thus am forced to be snide and dismissive to make myself look good

Her problem is that McConnell is about to make them vote on a sham resolution for the GND. There is no actual bill in the Senate, just a craven Republican ploy.

She should've explained that instead of handling it the way she did and just told the kids, "We're working on our own bill, and I'm doing my best to ensure it addresses these concerns" or other language like that.

Like sure I could vibe with the fact that it was edited especially bad but its not like Feinstein is without issues and some of these responses are pretty scary.

she is rich and powerful and has been such for almost her entire adult life

that so little has been done to ameliorate the effects of climate change and so much has been done to worsen them is a stain on her moral character and basic competency

This was my go to reaction when she said she'd been doing it for 30 years. You can't just throw that out there when you've failed on issues like this so badly.

in her words, a politician for over 30 years, in the supposed youth oriented progressive party, should be able to know how to answer these kids concerns (regardless or not they are in good faith) instead of shutting them down

when ben da 5'1 sharpio is agreeing with you, you probably fucked up

liberals who are ok with feinstein here need to understand that this kind of thing is why the left does not see you as allies
This is a bad take. I don't like Feinstein at all and think she does not come across well in this video either.

But this idea that some Democrats have of people "not being left enough" to be considered part of the left is really stupid and self-harming to the entire Democratic party. There is no reason to create a divide when currently the party has to be united to topple the opposition. Not everyone "on this side" feels the same way about every issue. But your view on things is no more justified that someone's view who might actually like Feinstein. And it's extremely presumptuous for you to assume you speak for the entire left with such a statement.

This is a divide that involves the deaths of literal hundreds of millions at the least, I think it's okay to have an ideological line here.

how about you stand on your square and say what you mean? stop doing subliminals.
Do you have less than a hundred posts? Seems not.
I don't really have to stand on anything. If you can't tell that some of these people with less than a hundred posts seem a little sus then I don't know what else to tell you.

I'd prefer to focus on the divide between Democrats and Republicans first (which renders any sort of climate change deal moot anyways because the right won't pass it) before trying to create or address a division in the left.

Remember that if you're still caught up in the arguments about costs in maybe not dooming us to a horrible environmental apocalypse, you are complicit in the deaths of billions of people, most of them third-worlders.
Though I know you don't care cause you're living nice and comfortable in the west.

So a party defined by nothing except opposition to the other party? Where do I join! And if you think leftists want to claim the Dems, you don't know very much about leftists. And of course views are more justified than other views. Climate change should be the #1 issue for Dems.
