While I love Tea Lopes Mania version, I prefer the original Lava Reef Act 1. It hits harder (especially the bass):

Fuckin' SEXY!!! Makes it sound like it's from some Miami cop movie from the 80s where the main character is standing on his apartment balcony thinking about the case as he watches the sun go down, and is taken by the hand of his lover, pulled back inside to be led to a dark bedroom lit by neon light for a passionate night of love making.

It really gets you pumped for some high speed action ! With P-06, it really hits the spot for me in terms of it being a memorable opening stage. An evolution on Emerald Coast.

I'm also a big fan of the second track of Aquatic Base. It really feels like you're in a rush to infiltrate this secret base that has a ton of security systems. In P-06 (again), I love getting to this part of the stage.

And finally, since we're on the topic of 06, the use of the His World leitmotif throughout the whole game (main theme, menu theme, results screen theme, etc) that eventually culminates into this musical masterpiece is one of my favorite parts of the game:

Overall 06 has one of the best OSTs in the series and I am happy it can now shine thanks to P06. Next time I post in this thread, I'll talk about another game haha.

Did you know that Sonic Generations had a pinball DLC that includes a full 4 minute freestyle jazz remix of Casino Night Zone? Because god DAMN

Edit: Oh, I didn't even realize they added Casino Night for the 3DS game, which is actually where this music comes from. Either way, god DAMN

Except that the mania versions of any of those tracks that appear in, well, mania, are the best versions, sorry genesis/mega drive sound chip

Of these, I feel like the classic take on rooftop run is pretty overlooked, not too surprising when you're competing with the equally as great modern rendition, or the original for that matter.

Among the long running franchises it is definitely the GOAT.

Also the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast has by far the most underrated OST. I kinda wish this vibe was brought back for Sonic Frontiers since it felt the most similar.

I absolutely loved my Sega Dream cast. One of my favourite consoles but my Genesis and even Sonic on the Dreamcast? Music is the last thing I think of. It's just not memorable at all to me. I actually hate the sound chip the Genesis uses... Sounds quite weird to me. Might be the only one with this polarizing opinion but yeah.

06's soundtrack was a total masterpiece from beginning to end, it's up there with SA1 for me. It's the reason 06 being incomplete hurt so much knowing the soundtrack was a vision of the game's fullest potential. I've held a secret love for 06 ever since, and P-06 is the total wish fulfillment of the game I would picture while listening to this OST.

Yep. Love all the individual character stories. It all feels so cohesive. And tying it together is one of the best soundtracks of any game. The sheer variety and specificity of every track is something to behold. I still get complete and total chills listening to this track playing with the final, suicidal confrontation between brothers:

Yep. Love all the individual character stories. It all feels so cohesive. And tying it together is one of the best soundtracks of any game. The sheer variety and specificity of every track is something to behold. I love SA1 so much. And when it coincides with good music, all the better.

Reminds me of Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha and Marvel vs Capcom 2. The composers must have been on drugs because some of the best music ever written were made in the 90s to early 2000s.

Don't want to derail the thread but hearing songs from the old days of Sonic and Street Fighter, why aren't you continuing the trend? You're going backwards

It's impossible to pick a favorite Sonic track. What makes Sonic music the greatest is that it's always tackling a variety of genres even within a single game, so it always feels like there's something for everyone, and they go all in every time with overwhelming success. I can't think of a single Sonic game that has a poor soundtrack except Sonic Chronicles, and that's only due to some unfortunate circumstances.
