Conversely: you realize companies can buy assets and entire divisions from other companies, right?

Konami spinning off their (anemic, and ever-decreasing in value) games division for sale to focus on fitness centers and the like isn't particularly far-fetched. The only reason it would be short of "blazingly obvious" is Japanese companies tend to do this sort of thing far less frequently.

Those IPs are still worth a lot, Konami also makes mobile, pachinko and most importantly, slot machines. Konami is a big player in casino gaming and one of the main proponents in trying to get gambling legalized in Japan.

Metal Gear Rising is the best Metal Gear game and best action game of all time. 🤷
Ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.

Anyway, I don't believe the 4chan stuff, but oh boy would that be quite the way to starting off the PS5. Plus, very possible to just have the licenses for video game purposes; Konami could keep them for their pachinko nonsense or what have you.

I'd only be hyped for new MGS if they also brought back Tomokazu Fukushima as well. He seemed to keep Kojima more on track.

Those IPs are going to lose value every month that passes without proper capitalization. If they can get someone else to capitalize on them to keep them relevant for pachislot promotion and get paid for the privilege, why wouldn't they? They clearly aren't interested in doing the hard work to maintain those brands on their own account.

They can (easily) sell access their stakes in AAA gaming without hurting their gambling business. They might, ironically, try to pull a Sony on Sony (with regards to the Spider-Man IP) and look for a beneficial "custody arrangement" for their top earning IPs, but it would be completely nonsensical for them to try and roll out more and more pachinko tie-ins when there's nothing left for them to tie into. To maintain the value of those IPs they need someone dropping prestigious games with their titles affixed.

Hey Konami, I'll give you $25,000 for the Contra IP for use on video games, in perpetuity, on consoles, computers and mobile devices. PM me.

This.

And do you want to get surprised.

Look on what he worked lately: https://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,52649/

Everybody's Golf (2017) (Quality Control Team)
The Tomorrow Children (2016) (Quality Control Team)
Freedom Wars (2014) (Scenario Quality Direction)

All PlayStation games: 🤔

Sony has all the ingredients and members to make any Konami IP now.

We don't know if there is still demand silent hill or not. I do think it silly to invest on 2 games for an IP that has been dormant for years
oh yeah because people are still talking about Silent Hills five years later because there's no demand for it. This thread is 30+ pages despite the lack of demand. What are you talking about?

Oh my, I'd love to believe. I wonder if Sony would put Iga on a (2D) Castlevania again if they'd hold the rights. What a world we'd live in..

2D game on PS5. I don't think it gonna work that much next-gen. A well paced and well done 3rd person like Bloodborne and DMC could work much better especially as technical showcase.

Sony partnering with Konami to revive Silent Hills I could totally see. Konami selling their biggest IP? No chance in hell. Castlevania has probably never been more profitable for them than these last couple years.

People used to insist last generation that Capcom should do the same, because of what a bad a place they were in; it was dumb then, and it sounds dumb now.

The metal gear gameplay loop is timeless, so I'm open to a new game as long as it doesn't have the same characters or plot. Too much baggage.

To begin with, I do not expect Sony to buy the IPs.
Only to get licenses for them, maybe an acquisition only after a try with all of them has been succesful.

Soo i guess this would be the best teams to handle the projects?

Silent Hill reboot - Japan Studio (Toyama)
Silent Hills - KojiPro
Metal Gear - ???
Castlevania - Japan Studio + From Software?

Let's take the rumors insanity wheel to 100: people where rumoring Sony buying Remedy, what if after a Bluepoint remake of MG1&2 or MGS, Sony does indeed buy them and have them work on a new Metal Gear? That would be pretty dope imho

Bluepoint's first original project to be a new Metal Gear? I would worried for them and MG fans.

Konami don't seem to have the enthusiasm to do this themselves any more. I'm not surprised Sony are stepping in. It'd also bolster their Japanese IP portfolio with some recognisable 'wins'

How DARE Sony leave out Suikoden and Parodius from the deal?!
Its a shame if sony moneyhat these ip's. They should be multi platform to let everyone play them. At the very least have them on pc
You should be grateful if this actually ends up real. It's only a money hat if the project was already happening and I doubt there were 2 Silent Hill games and a triple A Castlevania greenlit at Konami without outside involvement. Same with MG1 and MG2, that ish need Kojima. MGS is different though, it was already remade and we know what to expect with the cutscenes, and the tone and feel of the game, it's not too risky of a project for Konami to do alone.

Didn't they confirm their next project to be a remake?

You said new Metal Gear so I assumed you actually meant "new" and not a remake. Also it seems to be a very poorly kept secret that their next project is Demon's Souls. I thought you are talking about what they could possibly do after that.

Pretty sure a new Metal Gear Solid is already a thing in-house at Konami

With what talent? The same team that made Survive?

A teams a team at Konami
The problem is that it's by Konami only. Metal Gear is largely held up by Kojima's name. They had a chance to prove they could do a good job without him but they failed with Survive. They don't get the benefit of the doubt anymore which is why it's a good idea to put other people into the project. It could be any other publisher/console maker not named Konami and it would reinvigorate hype around the franchise.

By the way Castlevania in vein of God of War by SSM could be pretty good. Even with the same camera and combat system.

That or Sekiro clone, just with whip.

That would certainly get me to buy a PS5. Sony money and production forces behind beloved Konami IPs would be something.
