There's something about the movement of the combat, both when you're fighting and going ghost, that feels very off to me. Like there's a weird unnecessary pause to everything that is done. It just looks...odd. I don't know.
I was literally thinking today about playing one of the older assassin creed games - missed the one hit kills.
So it seems you can choose how you want to approach mission? Samurai and Ghost?

The stealth combat looks generic-- enemies just standing around, and using predictable and boring mechanics like "distraction to lure"

This is the Feudal Japan Assassin's Creed game people have been clamoring for (lol)
yup, it seems an ok game for me.
I will sure play it eventually, but I'm not that excited.
I'm in total agreement with this but the samurai trappings and environments are cool enough to sell me.
The stealth options don't look much different from an Assassin's Creed game. Doesn't mean it won't be fun but doesn't look like anything special.
80 % are getting Assassin's Creed vibes, both combat wise and world building.
