Negligee: Love Stories, Steam's first uncensored adult game, was approved and released last week. Since then, several countries have apparently banned the sexually explicit adventure game. In turn, developer Dharker Studios says this means it "can't release [the game] under the radar", and its availability has now been restricted in 28 countries.

I read the article, and someone is still gonna have to explain to me how it's banned in Japan

Edit: d'oh, is it because the genitals are uncensored? Nvm

Lol Japan.

Also, I wonder what the legal basis would be for Germany to ban the game. I can't think of any.

This doesn't seem like a list of countries you want to be on. Just based on clustering in other matters :P

Probably it was self-censorship because they learned that they'll be breaking the law in these countries?

In Germany you actually need to be 18+ to purchase such games. Actually a lot of other games that are on Steam cant be sold in Germany, as it requires them to be tested by the USK. No one really cared before though.

In Korea pornography is, unless its softporn, afaik banned. At least you cant even show mosaiced genitals.

Yeah. They restricted it themselves.

Germany is so prude, it had to be listed twice!

Someone type Steam at Google and see what happens (NSFW).
I just get the Steam logo lol

Its also banned from any discussion on Era as per the FAQ.

FYI.
Let me check what the exact games are:
  • Tits N Tanks
What in the world...

Oh, it's not banned here? Well whatever, I wasn't planning on buying it.

But if someone were to gift it....

banning something just because it's porn seems... excessive. unless there's also some weird anime child shit i'm unaware of.

Isn't it better for developers to sell censored games on steam and offer a free uncut patch on their website instead of getting banned?

At least in germany it's most likely a case of steam not being up to par on youth protection laws. Usually you need to provide some foolproof way for users to prove that they are actually over 18, like sending a copy of your personal identification card. You can't just get away with just a checkbox.
The porn itself shouldn't be a problem as long as all characters are legal.

The usual suspects, with a couple of outliers.

Did not expect Iceland.

I doubt this many countries could act this fast, so I assume this is not actual censorship at play, but some sort of self-regulation/other issues.
