Oh shit I just realised, could this be the season where we don't get a blonde character? Every season has had at least one so far lol.

I've gotta say, Dan looks pretty hype.

I can't believe that the first character didn't release today, though.

Even better. Not a new character but another universe is coming in.

Biff Slamkovich.
See that would actually be good. I want any Slam Masters rep.. well except King Rasta or The Wraith (really dislike both of them). Black Widow or Haggar would be decent picks from the game as well.
Or just go Darkstalkers (lol, yeah right) and gimme Anakaris.

Yup he look better now than SF4, Im interested with his taunt implication. even his the only character I dislike in the current that made it up.

As last character

I hope it is a slammaster character or mike haggar

What if were getting Rage? Violent Ken with unique moveset or Return of Oni? Sunburn Sakura?

What are your thoughts?

On the unfortunate side of this very good news, Dan being a season 5 character probably means that he isn't making SFVI. I thought him skipping SFV was a good sign for him making that roster, but I feel like he isn't the type of character you should bank on being in every game, so it is distinctly possible that he may not make the next title.

Yup, this solidifies my thoughts on Dan. Whether or not these facets leads to solid gameplay may be up in the air (that goes for any character pre release) but he is building up to be really damn unique.

Id really like to think Capcom has the intention of trying to balance a solid character and a "joke" character this time. I mean, this is probably the first time they're CHARGING for Dan since he's not in the base game. That's enough reason for them to really get creative with him. Just depends on whether or not they want to Capcom or Capcpcom

Do we think Capcom is going to bother porting/retooling SFV to the PS5 or will they just coast on backwards compatibility?

I think Dan could still end up in 6. He feels like one of those characters who could be added at any point and most people would be fine with it.

I'd think the latter, but this game is being supported a full year into next gen and we don't know just how deep the changes of the new management team will run. We may well see a PS4 Pro and proper PS5 patch launch with Dan.

Absolutely!

The best part is... this is what fans have been requesting for years. Keep Dan funny, but also make sure he is viable. Double down even further on the parody element. And most importantly, focus more on incorporating his taunts. They moved a little in that direction with Ultra. The meter building element of the taunts was a nice touch, but it wasn't enough.

What I really hope we get is a Satsui No Hado V-Trigger that gives him parody versions of all Akuma's unique specials. Obviously, none of them should work the same way as Akuma's moves, they should all have twists that give them completely different applications. This would also give us Dan's Raging Demon that has been included in a bunch of Capcom fighting games. There is so much potential for delicious, goofy parody here. Oh, and minimize landing recover on the light airborne Dan kick, please.

I feel like Capcom are FINALLY listening to the fans.

It is hard to say. A lot of people like Dan. There are lots of people who react positively to him. However, he also gets one of the stronger negative reactions as well. So, I feel like it is always a tossup.

Biff Slamkovich would be great. Based on his movesets from Slammasters 1 and 2, he could have a fireball, a flicker-style sonic punch, and command grabs. Could be a really interesting zoning/grappling hybrid.

With everyone mentioning it, do you think Slammasters 1 would still be fun today? I bought my wife a genesis since she loved the system as a kid last year and we both love wrestling. Is it worth grabbing?

Port held up pretty well when I played it last year. Its not the best version of the game by any means (I'd say the team match arcade re-release is the best of the bunch) but its still fun. Had a nice difficulty curve to the AI as well, I seem to recall having issues with the Super Famicom version being just damn annoying to mash your way out of pins - so the game was either really easy or almost impossible (not really any middle grounds) while either playing it in Vs mode or against the AI, the Mega Drive version was a blast.

That would be really cool indeed. Maybe it involves him putting on a tengu nose mask to mimic his dad and mr.Karate.

If everything we've seen so far stays through development, he seems to have many a tool so far. Whether its his throws or via taunt cancelling he'll pretty much be right on the opponent after dealing damage. I've got my fingers crossed for whiff gadoken into taunt. I don't think itll allow him to catch jumpers but the set up application would be super neat. I'm very curious how light knee is in this game.

Thanks. I'll probably grab this. Would be a fun thing to play on her birthday coming up. Also, see it mentioned here multiple times for characters and have been curious about them as we've been getting more into wrestling the last few eyars.

True, a few people do seem negative to his inclusion but I feel like the positive reactions outweigh the negative ones when it comes to him.

Though I'm not like Max though who thinks that it's not a SF game without Dan, I still feel like he's a character that could appear at any point in a game's life without any rhyme or reason because Capcom just felt like it lol. I mean hell, we all thought he wouldn't make it in this game with Kage here and Dan still made it.

In that way you can say he's a 'break glass in case of emergency' character who can be added at any point when the need arises (like now with S5 being so sudden).

I can't even begin to guess who the last character may be after seeing Akira announced. Hopefully its a charismatic bombastic character with broad appeal and a fun moveset. If they're smart it will be someone who will be as well-received by diehard Capcom fans as Akira was yesterday.

Dan is one of only a few truly iconic non-SFII Street Fighter characters, so it makes sense that he was included. We've gotten at least one big mainstream pick each season.

I feel like people are spot on with Haggar. Akira feels like a step towards Capcom really listening to fans and Haggar has been requested for years and he'd be a hype way to end the game. Without any form of an actual hint it's who I'm going with.

The standalone nostalgia costume has to be Kage as Evil Ryu, right? The only other characters missing classic looks are Ryu (SFI/II), Ken (SFI/II/III), Cammy (Alpha), R. Mika (Alpha), and Abigail (FF), but they're too similar to existing outfits to justify being sold separately. (If only new Fighting Chance costumes were still a thing...)

Does anyone know how to access the free trial on PS4? My pals are looking to give it a go and hopefully purchase!

I noticed that too actually, that it was a singular nostalgia costume. My first thought was that it was a classic SF2/3/4 Ken because I can't think of who else doesn't have one.

Some ideas for the upcoming costume waves:

Sporty (x3)
  • Birdie - golf (his name's a golfing term, and he's a lazy, oafish joke just like a certain golf-playing politician)
  • Alex - football (brawny, hard-hitting American)
  • Ed - basketball (dunking Psycho Snatcher, hip hop culture crossover)
  • Abigail - hockey (he's Canadian!)
  • Menat - rhythmic gymnastics (her fighting style is based on this)
  • Cody - baseball (pipe swing, slide kick)
  • Falke - pole vaulting (self-explanatory)
  • Lucia - soccer (kick specialist)
Professional (x3)
  • Birdie - chef (he's always thinking about food)
  • Laura - dancer (Rio Carnival)
  • F.A.N.G - plague doctor (I've wanted this for years, but now might not be the best time to include it)
  • Abigail - businessman (he's a company president)
  • Cody - construction worker (Metro City's always under construction, and he used a wrench in SFIV)
  • Falke - gardener (her attacks are named after flowers, and her pole could be a scythe like her Halloween costume)
  • Poison - lion tamer/circus performer (she's a flamboyant wrestling manager with a whip)
  • Dan - shop assistant (he runs the in-game shop alongside his sister)

That could work, but I feel like it might be too much of a thematic departure for Menat.

The roster remains evenly divided between SFIV and non-SFIV characters with these latest additions, so the final character could be anyone.

(The game launched with this ratio, and one of the developers made it seem like an intentional design goal in an interview, so I was hoping it might shed some light on the last pick.)

If Capcom had a donations for decisions made in Street fighter rosters. Would you give money to a vote that had your $$$? And once it reaches its goals they give us what we want?

That's actually an interesting idea. A charity donation drive for the fifth character would be pretty cool (whatever the charity would be, I'm not sure, perhaps BLM or COVID related causes), but I have no faith that normal human beings would be able to outspend the 3 or 4 megawhale degenerates that desperately want Ingrid in SFV.

This only serves to remind me of how annoyed I'm going to be by them ending on an odd number of characters.

I would think that Capcom have more than enough money not to need crowdfunding for additional characters, so I would be even less inclined to bother paying for only maybe getting a character I wanted. If it would be for charity rather than going to Capcom, then donating directly to a cause would still seem more productive than having the company dangle something that probably wouldn't happen as an incentive.

Sounds like it could be manipulated if someone was up for spending enough $$$... which means my dreams of a War Zard revival could finally be realised!

Not... quite?

I'm not exactly fluent in German, despite living close to the border, so I had Google Translate help me out here and there:

Wirbel Wind = Whirlwind
Luftstrom = Airflow
Windstoss = Gust of wind

Staerken = Strengthen/Reinforce
Psycho Angriff = Psycho Assault
Psycho Trombe = Not sure about this one. I don't think Trombe is an actual German word. It's French for tornado, as is the Swedish "tromb". So I guess it's related to either fenomenon, which makes sense given this is her staff twirl.
Psycho Mine = speaks for itself
Psycho Impulse = same

Psycho Spitze = this is a weird one, because spitze is an adjective meaning 'great' or 'amazing'. I think they meant Spitz, which can mean something like point or spike. Makes sense for her forward HP.
Blaukraehe = Blue crow
Luftjagd = Air raid
Zweitrit = another odd one. Zweitritt (double t) means something like two-step, which would make sense because it's a 2-move target combo.
Psycho Seele = Psycho Soul

Psycho Kugel = Psycho Bullet
Psycho Kanonen = Psycho Canon
Psycho Feder = Psycho Feather
Psycho Schneide = Psycho Blade/Cut
Katapult = apparently also not a German word, but Dutch. It means... *drumroll* ...catapult.
Psycho Schrot = Psycho Shot
Psycho Panzer = Psycho Tank
Psycho Jaeger = Psycho Hunter
Psycho Sturm = Psycho Storm (neatly combines the military and meteorological sense of the word)
Psycho Klinge = Psycho Blade/Sword

Psycho Fluegel = Psycho Wing

So yeah, Falke's moves combine wind/air with general military terms. She already has a professional costume as well; it's her goth vocalist costume.

THAT SAID.

I think your list has some great ideas. Gonna make a list myself later.

Do these names come from the Japanese frame data? They aren't listed in the English frame data table.

I never knew named normals were a thing. The more you know, I guess.
