I've owned this game for over a year, but I never tried it out. Now that it's a proper release I figured I'd give it a shot. I dove in (pun not intended, but I appreciated it), tried gathering resources, and then died because I had no idea how to make food. And then I figured out you could grab a fish and cook it. Then I almost died because I didn't realize that swimming in irradiated water was a bad idea. I usually don't like survival games (although I was a fan of No Man's Sky from day one), but this is something special. I'm still less than an hour in, but this game seems really, really good. I look forward to exploring it more this weekend.
As far as performance goes, I have a 7700K and a 980ti and I wasn't noticing any dips below 60 FPS at 1920x1200 (everything maxed in-game). I'm still very early on, so maybe there are more taxing areas later, but it doesn't seem like it has any noticeable issues performance-wise.
