I don't think it would piss people off this time since I have seen more supports for Reimu than I did with Isabelle.
"No Microsoft Mii costumes" is one of the easiest things to guess/predict.
If/When Crash gets in, I can predict no Spyro costumes too.

Not really. The discourse surrounding Banjo was that he'd get Rare costumes with him, instead we got a slew of unrelated costumes.
Reasons for wanting a character tier list:

You actually like the character
Joke —
You think they'd have a cool moveset
Toke —
You like their music
Bespoke —
It'll make other people mad
Considering you had reaction videos of people not recognizing Simon and Hero, I'd say that there's 0.05% chance of mainstream audiences knowing fuck all about Touhou.
Touhou feels like something that Sakurai might have entertained in the Melee or Brawl days, but I can't imagine the full weight of modern Smash Bros. funding and marketing being put behind a one-man indie series that is virtually unknown outside of Japan. It's not even remotely comparable to Dragon Quest, which has sold millions in the West and is a flagship series of one of gaming's biggest publishers.
Even if Touhou were to get in, I wouldn't expect that it'd get in through a DLC character where people would have to pay up to $6 or more just for this character. It seems like a 3rd party series to get in the base game, where Nintendo doesn't have to worry about people who don't know the series at all not purchasing it because they'll recognize the other characters.

By itself, it's an easy guess. But no one is buying this because of each costume in a vacuum. It's because they were all called at once.
No one guessed Banjo would come with no Microsoft/Rare Mii Costumes; in fact, the opposite was common bet everywhere, and absolutely no one would say we'd get such unrelated costumes with him, especially Team Rocket Grunt, Goemon and specific two returning Mega Man costumes.
Crash wouldn't have Spyro related costumes, btw. At best he'd be a Spirit, I suppose (and no Spyro content at is more likely than anything). But that is as much close expecting the returning Fighting Games Mii Costumes would come with Terry... and that isn't a safe bet anymore.
Heck, the alleged SMRPG costumes could come with Terry after all

I was aware of the characters in the periphery, but did not know they actually originated from a video game until this speculation cycle. Never saw them come up during the Smash 4 ballot discussions.
if people complained about Terry and SNK being unknown (which they aren't by any means), imagine the reaction of anything Touhou getting in Smash? :p

You know what at first I was annoyed by this but now I'm all for Hamtaro shitposting.
Lucas was part of an established first party IP and Sakurai has said he wouldn't have put him in if he knew Mother 3 wouldn't be localized. Kid Icarus was a cult classic and sold a million units and even had Pit in an American cartoon, and Roy was a clone.
Truly Hamtaro is the anime that both anti-Goku and pro-Goku shitposters can finally unify behind.
