So... FPS? is there a lot of shooting in the game? I wonder if I should care about motion aiming in this game or not.

Will the penises be censored? Or will this be the first time we see a penis on Nintendo hardware?
I heard stories of online 3D porn tailored for 3DS and also one of the porn streaming services had a big share of Wii U access in their statistics a few years back.

I looked at the game's listing on eShop this morning but can't remember the size. How big is it? Is there a physical release planned?

Will get it when it's out in the US eshop, hopefully Thursday. Then will probably play it with headphones but very low volume, there's only so much my heart can take in the middle of the night.

That's how I played Perception and how I will be playing Outlast (and Layers of Fear) as well...

Fuck it, I'm buying this lol.

I'll be home in a few hours, sadly my download speeds over Wifi are not that great but I should have screenshots and impressions up in 3-6 hours from now.

I'm quite curious about whether this is censored or not. Specifically
the part in the DLC where there is a male body with the dick and head cut off, and the head stuffed in a hole made where the dick once was, and the body in birthing position on a hospital table. Or where the antagonist who goes around cutting off everyone's dicks captures you and tries to cut off your dick."

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has censored/refused to release WAY less graphic shit.

This isn't 1993

I remember binding of isaac taking forever to come to Nintendo platforms because of the biblical/child abuse themes. It ended up coming out eventually, but binding of isaac is a disney cartoon compared to the Outlast Whistleblower DLC.

Pretty sure Binding of Isaac took forever because the OG 3DS couldn't run it worth a shit.

There's something intriguing about playing horror games like this on a handheld... for one thing, handheld games are more personal experiences, so it would probably up the scare factor a bit that you're essentially "alone" as a player and not just a character. But on the other hand you can just hold the screen far away from your face, or look away to ground yourself back to reality.

Definitely interested in this game and also the Amnesia games (which I believe were confirmed EDIT: apparently not).

Sadly nothing about Amnesia is confirmed, they said they were "considering it".

Seems like a really solid port and it looks incredible, I will keep this game on my radar.

Since I haven't heard about the Amnesia games on Switch I looked it up - last reports were a month ago or so, considered but not actually confirmed yet. Not only the Amnesia games but also The Room series.

Ah damn, must have misremembered that.

Anyway if it makes it to Switch (the first Amnesia) I'll probably be able to finish it. Anyone know how the Outlast games compare, scariness-wise?

"Scariness" is really tough to judge. What's scary to one person is hilarious to another. I can tell you that the tones are completely different. Amnesia is spooky gothic mystery scary while Outlast is bloody, ghoulish, horror scary. In Outlast, you'll get about one jump scare per hour, a lot of being-stalked-by-a-monster stealth scenes, and a handful of body horror/torture porn scenes.

Some people think Outlast is too scary to play for more than an hour. Some people think it's laughably repetitive and too try-hard to be scary.

I personally think it's more horror-fun than horror-scary, though it can have some decent tension filled scenes. It drags a bit in the middle (it's a 6 hour game that would have been better as a 3.5 hour game). THe DLC (Whistleblower) fixes the pacing issue by being much tighter and thematically varied. It's also probably the most 'wow, they went there' games I've ever played.

The first game and DLC are great, I didn't like Outlast 2 though.

For 25, it's a steal for anyone who likes a little horror.

I played it a few months ago and this is maybe the worst horror game I've had the displeasure to play. If your idea of horror is getting randomly chopped off and rape scenes then go for it, but being needlessly offensive as a tool for horror is like the weakest way to go about it. Didn't do anything for me.

The port looks solid and people are complaning about the price as usual? Do you want games at 5-10 bucks?
It's understandable imo. This bundle is usually on sale for that price everywhere else pretty frequently. Hell, Outlast was free on PS+ the day it came out on ps4, in 2014.

With that painting horror game, this is a good horror start of the year on the Switch! Any news on this coming physically down the line?

That was the ps4 version, this is the NSW version. Outlast on PC is still priced at 19,99€, Whistleblower is 8,99€, you can't compare a game in sale with the same game on a new platform.

Sounds like the problem are bundles and PS+ devaluing the game more than the current cost on Switch. The game is more than worth the asking price regardless of how old it is.

I get what you're saying, but I'm just explaining to you why people are saying the price is a bit high. You can get a steam key for this bundle for just a couple of dollars, and it was free on PS4 four years ago, and has been like 5 bucks numerous times.

Thanks, that sorta helps frame the type of scary this game provides. I think one of the reasons I found Amnesia so scary was the whole supernatural aspect making it hard to have any idea what might be lurking anywhere. If Outlast is basically just deranged lunatics that makes my brain a little less anxious about what the scares will be. I never really found gore to be all that scary, so this shouldn't be so bad for me.

1) Even on PC it's 28€

2) PS+ is 60€ isn't it? It's not "free".

3) You can't compare sale prices with launch prices

I think 20 dollars is fine for this, the main game is kinda weak, but the DLC is fantastic. I'm just saying I can understand why 20 dollars is more than people want to pay for this when it can be had for much cheaper on other platforms.

This is a new console, a new port, and it has the option to play it portable. It's going to reach a new audience (there are even people in this thread who haven't heard of the game, imagine all those Switch owners who don't know it).

$25 is fine. Anything under $20 would be too cheap for this game on the day it launches.

Is this the first Nintendo platform game with a bunch of dicks in it?

I remember having a couple "oh holy shit" moments in the DLC for how far they took the body horror stuff. Most graphic stuff I've seen in a game tbh.

Will the penises be censored? Or will this be the first time we see a penis on Nintendo hardware?

Reminder that this was a thing

Yes that is indeed a penis riding a chariot.

wow, that was a bit out of nowhere.

Was kind of expecting the sequel to release at the same time, but this is cool too.

I previously tried to play this on the PC a few years ago and it scared me so I stopped, and then stopped PC gaming, so I might have to pick it up on the Switch.

As long as the price is the same as on other platforms, it's fair. The complaint about the Switch tax is due to MSRP prices being more expensive on the Switch, this and what seems to be many other games that get released with a fair price are being trashed because "it was $5 on a Steam sale a year ago".

Just because it was on sale for $10 for a week on a different platform does not mean that the permanent price on the Switch should be $10. I saw too many people complain that Oxenfree was over priced when released on the Switch and once they had their sale down to $5 (for the longest time) the complaint was that the game wasn't very good. Price begging about flash sales is starting to get as bad as port begging. Just stop.

As a none Switch owner that loved the WiiU Im tempted to buy one now support is gathering speed but do Nintendo now have proper accounts instead of games being tied to the console?

Yes, the games are tied to the account and not the specific Switch console.

There are no ways to backup saves though.

Very solid title. Finished it and Whistleblower on PS4. Panic horror, very tense. Menacing antagonists. Great story too and I don't remember last time horror game story interested me. I recommend starting on hard for a challenge. Just a note: this is hide, stealth around, run for your life type of game. No weapons.

Finished downloading, am in main menu!

Early impressions:
- The options UI is tiny.
- There are 3 controller presets, no remapping possible.

Looks insanely good on handheld. Just some aliasing, but nothing terrible.
Keep in mind that the screens have Twitter compression and that the game adds a noise effect.
