YES

Yeah, same here. I'm all about those 80s Miami vibes. I find the darker sound to be a bit exhausting after a while, as much as I enjoy it in small doses. suuuper good recs, dude

here's some more stuff that isn't as heavy but still thematic:

(that last one is still sort of heavy, I guess, but it's super good so i had to post it, everyone should definitely check out more MAVS if they have time!)

frizz , I love MAVS, though I prefer to listen to their full albums over individual songs. "Wilderness" takes you on a slightly spooky cyberpunk journey.

Also looks like Starcadian's newest album has a release date and a name. Midnight Signals is due November 10th according to iTunes.

Looking forward to that, I'm a huge fan of his track "Sunset Blood" (used to great effect in "Vice Principals", whose soundtrack is synthwave AF):

Mostly build-up, with a transcendent drop at the three minute mark :o

Got to pimp some PIilotpriest in here. Watching Stranger Things has sent me on such a synthwave kick, it's
amazing. Let me know what you think.

Can't wait! Starcadian is one of my fave artists in this genre.

Another favourite is Sebastian Gampl, and he's also teasing new music: https://soundcloud.com/sebastiangampl/master-switch-2018-instrumental-teaser
It'll be released in 2018 and will feature artists like Ultraboss, Tommy Reeve and Max the Sax.

Oh yes, finally a new album, i can already hear Tommy Reeves in that second sample, lol.

Sebastian Gampl, Dance with the Dead and The Midnight are my favourites.

LOVE synthwave! I am really new to the genre but it seems I have found quite a bit already as I see a lot of the same artists I've found listed here. I really love the stuff like Miami Nights 1984 too. That Miami Vice/Vice City vibe is great. Any Apple Music users here? I need some tips to find new music there.

EDIT: Just decided to search youtube for Vice City synthwave and this came up:

lol, it's pretty good so far...

Edit 2:

Found they made a few more and made a playlist. :)

Love synthwave and most of the artists mentioned on here. i'll share some random synth stuff I haven't seen on here. Apologies if it's already on.

Tesla Boy - Rebecca (Radio Edit)
Robots with Rayguns - Rhythm Test (but this one is probably catchier Summer Dreams (Feat. Keith Masters) )
Lueur Verte - Emerald Rising
Street Cleaner - In a day's work, part 1
VHS Dreams - Discorecord
Zombie Hyperdrive - Magnatron (It's a bit reminiscent of Vince Di Cola's work for Transformers (1986))
Bourgeoisie - The Last Emperor (they haven't done much in a while though)
FM-84 - Everything (they've been doing well I think since the last album)
Anoraak - Last Call
D/A/D - Backbone of the night

I'm sure most are famliar with Electric Youth but the work they did for the OST for Breathing was nostalgia breeding ground in a way. Also been listening to the following albums Nightstop's Dancing Killer Timecop1983 with Lovers p1 and 2 (my morning fixture enroute to work),Pertubator's New Model, Nightstop's streetwalker, etc to name a few.

So glad this thread is back, always wanted to give the genre a go because i love 80's music and synth in general.
If i was to go add 5 artists to my library in spotify what would they be?

Thanks.

Tokyo Run by woob is my latest jam. Also the vinyl concept for the album is insane. Had to order a copy. https://vimeo.com/239276681

Like with many, Hotline Miami played a part in my love for the genre. Listened to the Perturbator songs on that soundtrack on loop when the game came out. Also heard a song here and there between 2012-2014 by subscribing to Spotify playlists etc. and listening to some Carpenter Brut and Perturbator, but the interest to dwell deeper came when I started to get back to collecting vinyl records after almost a 10 year hiatus.

Then I discovered labels like Blood Music, which led me to discover new acts. Also started to actually attend the Flashback Future events Noisepurge organizes instead of just thinking "that sounds cool". The genre is definitely suffering from some oversaturation, but the best artists seem to be able to reinvent themselves and the genre along with them.

I'm back to making YT vids, essentially mixing two favorite things...synthwave and 80's movies. I'll take requests, so if you have a song and/or movie you want to see on YT you can PM me and I'll see what I can do. Can't believe Index Code's 10th Room did not have a video on YT, had to change that.

i, like many, found out this genre after playing furi.
but after searching for stuff, i couldnt find something similar to carpenter brut. most of synthwave i heard was kinda slow and tame. does anybody know artists similar to carpenter that put out high-adrenaline music?
Roller Mobster is best thing ever

I'm gonna get blasted for this, but I don't think any other artist can compare to the brilliance that is Carpenter Brut. So it will be tough to find others that are similar.

My advice is to buy Brut's Trilogy, or each EP. I recommend listening to each EP separately, to get the full effect of Brut's growth as an artist.

Perturbator has released far more content, and just about all his albums from "I Am The Night" onward, including his experimental EPs, are outstanding (I can't speak for his latest album, "New Model", as I'm over darksynth now.)

Get a load of these two tracks off "Uncanny Valley", very high-energy stuff:

If you like synthwave and Castlevania, you should check out this nice little EP by Wolf And Raven:

Tracklist:
1. The Night Queen
2. Vampire Seduction
3. The Belmont Curse
4. Grave Danger

Bandcamp link: https://wolf-and-raven.bandcamp.com/album/cursed

These are not covers of existing Castlevania tunes, but rather inspired by them. Wolf And Raven did previously release an EP with straight covers of video game music, though. And not just any video game music: OUTRUN! Might as well post that here:

Tracklist:
1. Magical Sound Shower
2. Passing Breeze
3. Splashwave
4. Last Wave

Bandcamp link: https://wolf-and-raven.bandcamp.com/album/tribute-to-outrun

Siri tells me that these songs are stuck in her head because I smash the repeat button all the time...

She is not wrong...

The first track is dangerous to listen while driving... at least for me.

Man, you guys are killing it with these recommendations. Didn't even know Outrun was an actual arcade game, so I'm checking out the original OST to see how it influenced the arranged album.

I'll soon have this bad boy on vinyl. Tommy '86's Transhumanism was one of the better synthwave albums last year.

Gost's Non Paradisi took some time to warm up to, but I'd say Non Paradisi is definitely one of my favorite synthwave albums. Also hell of a experience to be dancing to these tunes on Gost live show.
