-Why I shouldn't get the X900F
Worse input lag. Especially for 1080p stuff.
Worse PQ, etc.
Worse design. Bulky compared to. Wth with that stand.
My room is mainly dark since I use the TV more during the night so that benefits the OLED.
Worse black levels even compared to R617 according to Rtings.
The whole HDMI thing.
It's not that much cheaper than the OLED.
Android TV is bad I hear.
-Why I shouldn't get the OLED
Burn in
SDR content is worse because of the processor being better on the Sony.
T- HDMI "thing" is likely because Sony has always paired a specific chipset (Mediatek) with the X1 Extreme processor. The A8F uses a newer revision X1 that seems to solve this problem, but it's an issue also for the A1 (OLED) and X900e. I won't lie, it's a bizarre catch to have when LG and Samsung just go full bandwidth on everything, but my X900F was also dramatically cheaper than the LG OLEDs and Samsung Q series, so I can't really argue too hard.
For the non full bandwidth inputs, I read somewhere that you can still run HDR, but only 4k30, so probably would be reduced color depth HDR? So it's pretty comprehensive for HDMI 1.4 devices (of which there are a lot) or 1080p devices like Nintendo Switch, PS3, Wii U, vast majority of laptops, etc. If you definitely have 3+ full bandwidth devices (UHD HDR Blu Ray, Xbox 1 X, Apple TV 4K) the mitigation plan would be:
a. Soundbar with HDMI 2b port switching
b. Receiver with HDMI 2b port switching (if you have a HT setup)
c. Monoprice 50 dollar 2b switch. (Another step for your devices, but not awful)
None of them are ideal solutions but there you go, if you're in that boat already.
- I don't understand how you can call the X900F bulky but honestly, wall mounting is the best. Certainly if you want "non bulky" you should get the Q7 or Q9 with the breakout box, because everything else on the market is about the same size.
- The Android build is slow, for sure. But it's not like running 3.0 or something. 99% of the time you use the TV to watch stuff, not browse the menus. And where it's actually really great is you get access to Google Play. Want VLC, Kodi, etc? Well you don't have to rely on the TV manufacturer for any of it.
Don't get me wrong - I would have bought the C7 or C8 if they were in my price range, but...the X900F perks are pretty good.
