So I did a search and I can't find anyone talking about Identity RPG, an MMORPG that's basically seems like sim life? Houses, vehicles, jobs, economy.

It seems interesting enough to at least make me curious. So what game is literally* no one else talking about?

*literally still literally means figuratively. (and it has for over a century. Sorry)

EDIT: new or unreleased games.

There is a realtime-with-pause/RTS/puzzle game for the PC called Battle Bugs. It was made by Sierra. I have never seen nor heard anyone discuss this game before! I did see MetalJesusRocks mention it in one of his pickups videos but that is only because he uses to work at Sierra.

Bosconian was always one of my favorite arcade games. According to searching on Google "bosconian site:www.resetera.com," this is literally the first time it has been mentioned on this site.

EDIT: Oh whups, either the title changed or I just didn't read it correctly...well, for recent games, I'd love if more people talked about A Hat in Time.

Great game, masterpiece even, but muted response on this board due to the controversy, which is understandable. But unfortunate.

Rock of ages 2.

I have not seen anyone ever talk about this game and I loved it.

It's a tower defense /boulder rolling game where you have to keep your bolder fast with high health.
The game also has a very Monty python-esc cutscenes and style.

It's not amazing but really enjoyable as a game and I recommend it for anyone who wants an fun experience (Also Atlus published this game and the Dev team are Chilean).

Slyder Adventures. It's a very fun, very charming game from my childhood.

Pretty sure it isn't available anywhere except gated behind dodgy-as-hell third party software (WildTangent and the like), including the high seas (unless you search for it for hours on end).

There's an old Matt Thorson game that I adore called An Untitled Story. it's a 2d metroidvania, it has a very plain mspaint artstyle, but it's very smartly designed and is compellingly difficult but not impenetrable. I would recommend it to anyone who likes metroidvanias if they can deal with the lo-fi art style.

Creepy Castle, a really charming 2D adventure with lots of exploration and secret, and different point of view with different playbles characters! With an ultra retro look and tons of filters! Also great music

Edited by Nicalis, You should really try it!

It's a puzzle platformer with a cute witch. Great music, great puzzles, great visuals, super well paced short game that wants to be played more than once.

Buy this game. Support itch.io.

looks really cool, will check that out

Edit: Fuck the title change, I'll add shit after my post to make it relevant. This game is awesome and deserves love.

Front Mission 3 - SRPG PS1

Gameplay video

This game is probably one of the best strategy games ever goddamn made. It might not look like much at a glance but there's a ton of depth.

Plot:
You and your idiot friend have 9-5 jobs as delivery guys for mechs. You work for a company that sells mechs, you're expected to give the customers a demo of what the mechs can do and then deliver the mechs to where they want.

As you're on the way out the door you get an email on your PC from your sister and you choose whether you read it before your delivery or after your delivery. This choice changes the game in its ENTIRETY as it determines which side of the coming war you fight on. This game has 2 separate campaigns, well written characters, branching paths, and a fleshed out world.

Combat and Mechanics:
Standard Grid Based SRPG with AP

Action Points AP are based on mech weight, leg type, and pilot skill. Moving a square can cost 1-3 AP depending on terrain, weight and leg type. Using weapons also consumes AP. This leads to situations where you choose between movement or combat, do I let my sniper go for the extra shot or should he retreat?

Mechs have 5 different parts
  1. Body
  2. Left Arm
  3. Right Arm
  4. Legs
  5. Pilot
As you fight you do damage to different parts of the mech. If you take out the arms it can't use the weapons attached to either arm, if you take out the legs you limit the mobility, if you destroy the body the whole mech is scrapped, if you kill the pilot the mech ceases function and the remaining parts are added to your inventory.

You can do enough damage to the mech so that the pilot Surrenders. If you hit them while surrendering they'll evacuate the cockpit and the mechs parts will be added to your inventory after battle. Alternatively if your mech is too heavily damaged you can eject your pilot and they can hop into the free mech.

Customisation:
Pilots
Pilots are static in this game. You get most of them through the story missions and are able to recruit some mid missions (like fire emblem). Pilots start off with basic proficiencies (I'm good at melee, I'm good at sniping) but will learn different abilities depending on the mechs they pilot and the weapons they use. This means a sniper unit can become efficient at melee and vice versa.

Mechs
I'll separate mechs into three sub categories, parts, weapons, and packs.

Parts
  1. Body
  2. Arms
  3. Legs
Mechs have weight which effects your Action Points (AP). Lightweight mechs typically have less HP but give you more AP. Heavyweight offers the reverse and Midweight offers a balance.

You can mix and match parts from different sets, name your mechs, paint them, and save load outs.

Weapons
The game offers a wide variety of weapons. They generally fit into categories:
  • Melee
  • Projectile
  • Shield
Melee weapons are self explanatory, you get pilebunkers, robot brass knuckles and clubs.

Projectile Weapons are guns. You get Shotguns, Machine Guns, Snipers, and more. You also get shoulder mounted weapons that can launch missiles/grenades.

Shields are a defensive option and can be used to dampen the damage taken and absorb damage over other parts.

A common strategy is to throw a heavy arm on with a shield so it can absorb all the damage, then have a medium or lightweight arm to attack with.

Packs
In this game you can choose between a field pack or an engine. The field pack let's you carry a few items into battle (ammo for reloads, repair kits), or an engine which will give you more AP.
ADDITIONAL STUFF
They built an internet into this game. It is essentially an interactive codex used for learning about the world. You can buy/use programs to hack your way into websites to learn more information about potential upcoming events.

You can also find your way onto the darknet and buy a ton of high tier parts/weapons for your mechs.

EDIT:
Due to title change/not reading OP, here's a game that isn't out yet that I'm looking forward to. It's inspired somewhat by Front Mission, and was an indie gogo game.

DUAL GEAR

There's also MechWarrior coming out that looks super promising.

Edit: Didnt read thread title woops.

Codename Steam. I mean its kind of unfair since its mainly single player but its barely going to be three years old and it was on sale for less than 3$ on best buy in this year's cyber monday.

But after playing it, I can kind of see why. It's fun to get the mission clear. But the itch to start the next drops down rather quickly. Maybe its the xcom gameplay and maps but I casually look at Mario and Rabbids, and that world and movement looks way more fun.

Motherfuckin Towerclimb. It's at its core reverse spelunky, except better and waaaaaaaay overlooked, if you like Spelunky you'll love it. It's on Steam, has one of the best soundtracks ever and it deserves all the sales

Sadly, that game in the OP seems like something that will never come out.

Here's my pick, it's one of my favorite Switch games.

It has thousands of user created courses and they're cross platform (PS4, PC, Xbox One, Switch). Would be nice if everyone could play against each other, but I'll take the courses. It's only $15 too.

Night Slashers, Violent Storm and Metamorphic Force. Three awesome 90s beat 'em ups that deserved to be played by a lot more people.

This one is really old, but never seen anybody mention it

Eternal Eyes, it's like Final Fantasy tactics only worst in every possible way. But it got me into Strategy games and I love this game for that. It's really short but it's okay, I've beaten it multiple times since it has a new game plus mode and a monester creation element that I like. Plus secret characters unlockables that make the story look silly, but all in good fun.

Opus Magnum (Steam)
Released Dec 8th 2017

This is the latest title from Zachtronics, makers of puzzle games including SpaceChem and TIS-100. You play as an alchemist tasked with building small machines that assemble particular "products" using a (usually very limited) selection of resources. Some of these resources just need to be moved from their point of origin to the end position, while others need to be combined or converted first to achieve the desired goal. The puzzles can be solved however you like, but the game challenges you to build machines that are as cheap, small and efficient as possible.

Here's one solution of mine - the game conveniently allows you to export a GIF of any solution you build:

opusmagnum-healthtonif9o5u.gif

The fact that the game came out so late in the year probably didn't help its popularity, though I have seen it on a few "Indie of the Year" lists.

Lord of the Rings Online

Guys, he said "tell me about a game..." not just drop a game's name and be on your merry way.

Ok, I'll say a few words about Armored Core For Answer. Awesome mech game on PS360 where you can customize every part, and decide if you want a heavy tank that shoots hundreds of missiles, or an agile mech that can fly indefinitely and cut enemies in half with a plasma blade. The background is interesting despite its very weak presentation in mission briefings and short narrated sequences between chapters. The game is pretty difficult since it's made by From Software. I was very disappointed by the sequel AC V's gameplay and hope the next installement they've been teasing will be closer to AC4 and For Answer.

Edit : just saw OP's post which was posted while I was typing mine. My bad hahah. Sorry OP I've got nothing, this year's been so busy I've only had time to play some of the most popular titles.

Style Savvy 4 came out in the US on Christmas Day published by Nintendo and I haven't heard a peep about it except from friends who are also into the series.

Sunless Skies is the sequel to Sunless Sea. The Judgements are dying, and the brave souls of Fallen London blast off into space, only to find that it's more bizarre than even the Neath.

sunless.jpg

I haven't played it yet, but if it's like Sea it'll be a text adventure + roguelike. I'm told the base gameplay is much improved over Sea. It's in early access right now, official release date is in I think March.

Well, people have been talking about this game and it has its own modest OT here on Resetera, but not enough people apparently!

I'm talking about Finding Paradise by Freebird Games. You can find the OT over here. Their biggest claim to fame...kinda was To The Moon in 2011, a wee little narrative-heavy indie game built on the RPG Maker VX engine. That game was notorious for how it so ably brought many a Youtuber to literal tears, the point of downright sobbing on camera once the credits were rolling. Finding Paradise is the newly released and highly awaited follow-up.

What is it, I hear you ask?

It's like I said, essentially like a visual novel with the appearance of an RPG Maker game. Neither To The Moon or Finding Paradise (as well as A Bird Story, which is a little prequel to Finding Paradise) are abundant with chunky gameplay, as the main crux of the interaction as a player you will have involves wandering around being witness to a story being told through plentiful scene events, looking for certain "mementos" in order to unlock what are essentially memory gateways and then solving some relatively simple little puzzles to progress. Finding Paradise does shake things up with a variety of visual gags, some of which are one-off, full on interactive playable sections pulled straight from other game genres, from a full on 2D shoot 'em up section to even a JRPG final boss like battle.

But people aren't going to approach Finding Paradise for gameplay. No no, you're there for the story and you're there with a box of tissues next to you in case you find yourself bawling by the end. The basic premise of the game is that the returning protagonists from To The Moon are back with a new patient. They both work for a company that specialises in essentially altering the memories of dying patients through a subconscious level, providing them with new artificially created memories of their life. Regrets in life would be forgotten and they can die happy and content. Granted, there are obvious ethical questions with this and such procedures are never easy for spouses and loved ones of the dying to process, and this game certainly addresses these topics. In this game, our two main characters are assigned a client with the most cryptic request. He is not asking for anything fanciful like going to the Moon or vain things such as fame and fortune. He wants them to give him a more fulfilling life but by changing as little as possible...

Indies on Switch make me feel awful because I want to support them, but literally every game I own physically save Mario Odyssey has a $20 expansion/season pass/dlc package and I really like the games I've bought so far. Floor Kids looks super cool so I'm glad to hear good things about it.

My pick for game that nobody is talking about, at least on Resetera, is The Sinking City, from Frogwares.

It's a AA open world investigation horror game set in a 1920s New England small town. It's probably still a ways from release, but a pure Cthulu horror game from the makers of the Sherlock games has me stoked.

In fact I think with all the updates they've had recently, It's probably a good idea to make a new thread.

Yeah that's nice. I've been thinking these last few days that I wanted to play this game again. I love it and got pretty far in both scenarios but never completed either...

It's a really great game but damn does it take a while. Neither of the routes are short and they're like 20-30+ hours each.

If possible don't do both simultaneously or grind training missions, I know that saved me a ton of time on my first run through Also use a guide for the internet.

Wow, that's pretty amazing.

Not sure whether you meant the GIF export feature or my machine, but either way, if you wanna see something really amazing you need to check out some of the insane solutions people are finding in this game:

One thing that's hardly mentioned, which is understandable due to the total lack of information or even an official announcement, would be Ubisoft's "Pioneer" space Sim.
The trailer was hidden in Watch Dogs 2, but the last news (and I guess only news) we have is a rumour that development was not going smoothly. Over a year later and still nothing, it's like it's been forgotten.

Shoot, so far under the radar I didn't know it existed.
