I really don't understand why people find rosters so critical to them for games like this. imo either you want to play a good tennis game or you don't, ignoring everything else a certain player not being in the game swaying you to not buy it is quite ridiculous. I'll be giving this game a try and hopefully it plays well.

I personally don't care that much, but I understand that for a sports game to have visibility it needs some stars there.

To me the two most glaring issues are
  • sometimes the players don't even touch the ball and yet they hit them fine
  • the running forehand animation looks weak
  • some motions don't make any sense, they play like half volleys from the service line and the ball shoots over the net as if it was s smash or a drive
It just doesn't make sense and looks super off-putting

That is dissapointing. To be honest one could see it coming, the previews were not looking all that great, and it felt like the game really needed more time in the oven. I am guessing they might have ran out of time/budget and had to release what they had. I do hope at the very least they fix glitches like players hitting the ball without touching it.

Pretty sure those are still with 2K. The developers can't just use them again because they want to. One canclearly tell Top Spin 4 must have had a way bigger budget than TWT.

Most definitely, Top Spin 4 had all the main M1000 and Grand Slams except Wimbledon, as well as pretty much all the top players of the time and quite a few legends. I am guessing it must have bombed pretty hard if they didn't give any continuity to a series that four entries.

Looks alright, I'd be happy to give it a go. That first gameplay video in the OP seemed kinda slow-ish (though, could be something that has been fixed since then, it was a pre-beta build after all) but it looks nice enough. Could definitely do with a larger female selection though. Doesn't even seem like enough of them to make a proper tournament!

That said, man.... what I wouldn't give for a new full blown Virtua Tennis!

Etc.

Fortunately the Switch version was postponed but I don't know if things will be better in a few weeks ...

Did anyone try a console version with the day one patch (if there's a patch) ?

I'll definitely give this a go. My hope is the game itself looks better when good people play it. The videos youtubers have published look way better than the official gameplay videos which in itself is, of course, hilarious.

But let's not forget: These are the people who announced the reveal would be coming at gamescom 2017, then didn't say a single word about this game for the entirety of gamescon AND thought McEnroe was a right hander.

The game looked like garbage in every YouTube gameplay video, I'm not sure what the hell happened with this. It's legit worse than Topspin 1, let alone 4.
I just watched this, I think it looks quite ok.

Any feedback on the day one patch yet ?
I don't have the game but I am assuming there is no patch yet. The developer just posted this:

----
Hello everyone,
The day has finally come to take to the court – Tennis World Tour is now available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
As you can imagine, the team has been working hard to improve the game and you can expect to see changes in the coming days and weeks including improvements to usability and the user interface, audio and gameplay enhancements, bugfixes and several online game modes.

ONLINE MULTIPLAYER
As you will notice when you start the game, the online features are currently not available. We appreciate that this will be disappointing for many of you but rest assured that we are working really hard to alleviate the situation as soon as possible.
Features are scheduled to roll out in two phases. The first will bring online quick matches and in the second phase we will implement a ranked online mode with global leader boards. We will go into a more detail about these modes in the next few days.
We apologise that you will have to wait on the multiplayer features a little longer, but we hope you will enjoy the local multiplayer or start your journey to the top in career mode in the meantime and look forward to your feedback.

FUTURE UPDATES
We're committed to supporting and improving Tennis World Tour way past the release date and you can expect additional content and improvements in the coming weeks and months.
We will share more detailed roadmap with you soon, but we are already working on the following:
  • Doubles mode
  • A weekly challenge mode
  • Sliding animations on clay courts
  • Improvements to audio
  • Additional outfits and accessories
  • And of course, general improvements based on your feedback
Again, thank you all for your support and feedback leading up to release! We look forward to the next chapter on this journey with you.
The court is yours!

Yeah I just saw the message from the developer, this is disappointing.

Oh well, I can wait for the patch , I'll keep listening to music while playing to compensate for the dead crowd ^^

Game seems disappointing but looks better than AO Tennis and I'm just so desperate for a tennis game that I'll give it a go. Hopefully, they are able to improve the larger flaws over time.

I wish the devs all the best and all, but man. Wouldn't be surprised if this hits budget price before the Switch and PC versions release.

For people that have the game? Is whole the game like this with barely any crowd reactions? This example really kills immersion in my eyes.

Ya it's that bad from an audience perspective. They only applaud on aces and occasionally gasp when someone hits a winner. The commentary is really bad as well. It's basically just limited to a sentence describing what happened and even then, 20% of the time it doesn't accurately state what just happened (Like I miss a forehand and he says, "how did he miss that backhand"). If it weren't for the sound of the ball striking the game would be an automatic mute.

So dissapointed. Was really looking forward to this. I just don't understand why they release he game under this conditions. It will give them bad buzz and sales will be affected. This seems like another case of NBA Playgrounds.

This should've been and 30USD release at the most. I'll be waiting until all fixes and online is released to consider it.

I wouldn't say that even if Aces is great that it will solve the 'tennis game itch' that a lot of tennis-fans have had the last 7 years.

The thing that Aces has in common with other tennis games is that you also play with a racket and (sometimes) with a tennis bal :p

Before seeing this video I was like "okay, game isnt perfect, but seems good". But, OMG, what the fuck is that. Player models is PS3-like, no crowd, ball doesnt hit the racket. lol I am not getting it until its a fiver.

I could understand AO Tennis being rushed out for limited release in Aus/NZ for the Australian Open but are they launching TWT now because of the French Open? So many features they decided to release without.
Is it really worth getting that sales money when it will leave a bad first impression?

The more I play the more it grows on me.

There's A LOT of bad but there's actually quite a lot of good. The roadmap for the future looks good too, I reckon in a few months the game will be pretty good but for now it's average at the very best. Definitely a rushed game to be released for RG and Wimbledon.

Its a shame that Tennis games apparently don't sell enough to justify another Top Spin or Virtua Tennis. Will follow this game and it's progress but the current state is not interesting to me.

There's no online but at least there's a launch trailer?

Also this:

What a weird launch.
Well at least the launch trailer is quite good and makes me hyped.

And I am guessing that they realize the game is going to be quite a lot better on 1 June after 1 or 2 patches. So this way they can do some damage control for negative buzz.

If they make the crow more engaged, the sounds a little better, add sliding on clay, have a working online mode, and make the touch of the players a little better already. I am guessing that those small things could really help the game from being average to be a decent tennis game.

Lol the various covers for different regions are tailored for specific players they think are most popular to that region but the BOSS Federer is at the front and center of EVERY cover.

Why aren't we getting more Top Spin btw? Are they like, financial failure or something?

Aren't most of these developers the ex Top Spin team? It's a major achievement considering they didn't have a huge publisher, and they're still trying to create a good tennis sim.

It's apparent the game was shipped completely unfinished, maybe due to their publisher pressure. But I'm looking forward to seeing how they continuously improve it.

Federer quite possibly is the most popular tennis player if all time so that makes sense.

Top Spin 4 didn't sell well enough. And nowadays 2K won't greenlit anything without a ton of microtransactions I would assume. Those 2K NBA microtransactions generate more revenue than a Tennis game ever could lol.

Does anyone know when the online mode will be added? I want this for Switch but not if there's no online. I can do without the big players, but what's the point in releasing a sports game without online in 2018?

Cant they just add to Xbox backwards compatibility?

The licenses would likely have to be renewed so it's unlikely. Not sure if they can just release it in disc format as they did with other games, but so far not that many sports games have been BC as far as I can recall.

In the end I took the plunge and tried the game on my Xbox One X. The game is fairly buggy, it sometimes freezes for a split second, and it even crashed completely once. EDIT: In fact, checking the iist, I only see SSX3 from the OG Xbox and SSX from the 360, Skate 3, the Tour de France games and one NBA Jam. So yeah, wouldn't get my hopes up.

There is also the fact that in some occasions the game seems to ignore your commands and plays a shot you did not want to play, or balls that do not seem reachable are somehow hit. On the good side, it seems to me there is a good gameplay system buried under all these bugs but the game really needs more polish.

Not like they have anyone else on the roster close to his star status.

Anyone else from New Zealand having trouble just getting the option to buy it from PSN though? It's still listed as a preorder for me though it says release is the 22nd still.
