While I prefer the movie to the manga I completely agree with this.I can't believe there hasn't been any 26 episode adaptation for the manga at least...
It could gave more story than the movie version.
I'm gonna watch my bluray this week. Thanks for the anniversary reminder.
Here's some gifs.
I don't know what the quality is like but both subbed and dubbed versions are streaming on Hulu.Where can I watch this?
And I want to see the original with the proper SFX etc, I looked a little while ago and was confused by reviews etc about poorer audio quality and just walked away confused.
Watch it again soon and relive your childhood. In 1996, age 16, i was working my first ever job sweeping platforms and checking tickets in train stations. Cleaning the platform one day i found someone had left behind a copy of a magazine called 'Manga', so i took it. It had the final part of the Akria manga reprinted in it, and even reading just the end of the manga, knowing nothing about it at all i was like "this is so cool". Hunted down the VHS, watched it over and over, and absolutely loved it. The story is confusing and really doesnt make much sense, but it is still a landmark movie. Im not really an anime fan nowadays and i kinda miss when anime was still this edgy, cools as shit animation like it was in the mid 90's or so, before it got swamped with fanservice shit.
Great anime, but man the manga is so much better, it makes the animated movie seem like a trailer for the real thing!
For a movie with a highly acclaimed soundtrack, it is sad that many viewers in this Blu-ray age have probably never even seen the movie with the original BGMs. The OST and the 5.1 remixes use alternate, and IMO worse versions for some of the BGMs that have not been used on the original theatrical mix.
The original theatrical mix was fine, so I don't understand why Tsutomu Ōhashi had to keep tinkering with the mix over the years. The 2001 5.1 remix and 2009 Hypersonic remix were not good IMO. There's clipping, sound effects have been replaced with inferior effects and a total of 14 (2001) and 16 (Hypersonic) BGMs out of 34 have been altered in some way or replaced.
Included as a PCM 2.0 encoded track on the:Where can I find the original audio track. If I have to rip my Blu-ray and mux the OG stuff back in myself, I'll do it.
That Genga book is good as well. For anyone loving Akira, I highly recommend Tribute to Otomo artbook :
Its a collection of original arts by european, american and japanese artists, a tribute to Akira or Otomo's other works. Each page goes with its commentary of the artist to its relation to Otomo's work. Its amazing, and tons of super famous names in there.
Still the most impressive cyberpunk city ever put on film.
also goes REALLY well with Perturbator
That youtube link image shows that Akira predicted the Tokyo Olympics
Damn, really? I'm sure pirates have provided these tracks somewhere? Would be nice to sync to my bluray when I rip it.For a movie with a highly acclaimed soundtrack, it is sad that many viewers in this Blu-ray age have probably never even seen the movie with the original BGMs. The OST and the 5.1 remixes use alternate, and IMO worse versions for some of the BGMs that have not been used on the original theatrical mix.

I didn't read the later posts where they said it was actually available on older discs. Thought we were talking pure 30 year old bootleg territory there.
You'd better. Post a photo of yourself holding the disc for proof or reported!!I didn't read the later posts where they said it was actually available on older discs. Thought we were talking pure 30 year old bootleg territory there.
So of course I will hunt down an OOP disc instead..
Berserk-tier CG remake whenI wouldn't mind a remake. The movie is only a part of the original manga.
No way a modern remake would have the budget to do it justice.I wouldn't mind a remake. The movie is only a part of the original manga.

The books are so amazing- the movie doesn't even come close. No way a modern remake would have the budget to do it justice.
I disagree on that one. The manga is one of the best comic books ever written and the movie is one of the best pieces of animation ever created. Both are masterpieces of their respective mediums.
Yeah at most you could criticize the story but otherwise they are pretty different and the film is so good it feels like you're being unfair if you just say it doesn't compare.I disagree on that one.
