I believe the parent national company is completely gone, its just former franchisees still using the stuff they had.I can confirm this, I drive by one all the time and ask myself how the hell they stay open. Didn't know there were only 10 left lol.
Yup... Completely forgot what Blockbuster used to mean.I thought this was about movie releases and was really confused.
Wait, so they don't even have new movies? Just whatever they had over a decade ago?I believe the parent national company is completely gone, its just former franchisees still using the stuff they had.
No, they have new movies. It's just that it's controlled locally using resources/systems left over from the old days, the 6 Alaska Blockbusters likely don't have the same ownership as the other 4.Wait, so they don't even have new movies? Just whatever they had over a decade ago?
This actually sounds like hell.
Oh, thank goodness. No, they have new movies. It's just that it's controlled locally using resources/systems left over from the old days, the 6 Alaska Blockbusters likely don't have the same ownership as the other 4.
what do people do for fun in alaskaLive in Alaska.
Don't visit blockbuster, but I hit redbox often.
Bandwidth caps are terrible up here.
There are 6 stores in Alaska, that seems like a good description of a top-level managerial position for them.So station wagon bandwidth!
Also, lol at that one guy being a "regional manager."
Consume copious amounts of alcohol.
I'd call him COO!There are 6 stores in Alaska, that seems like a good description of a top-level managerial position for them.
They did. They also tried mail-in and kiosk. Fundamentally their business model of franchising could not continue operations.I miss video stores. I wonder why Blockbuster didn't go the Netflix route and start a streaming service?
I think they did. It was just too late.I miss video stores. I wonder why Blockbuster didn't go the Netflix route and start a streaming service?
They competed w/ Netflix when Netflix was just discs, but they couldn't leap to streaming. And when they couldn't do that (Netflix already had a huge market share), there wasn't a future. So they closed up.
I always liked Hollywood Video better.
They had that awesome used game off shot where I found some rare gems.

Family Video, at least in the midwest, holds up the video rental mantle as all the small stores died a long slow death. Never rented at Blockbuster, as the rentals were always too expensive there compared to smaller chains.
