Well, when you use such ridiculous hyperbole, I guess.
I understand not liking Uncharted 4. There are great games I dislike too.
Saying it's "terrible" is false.
Didn't it also get GOTY on GAF?
It's simply a strange vocal minority of people who dislike it. The game will always be known as one of the all-time greats.
It's not what I wanted out of an Uncharted and felt like it tried harder than ever to be
"cinematic" as opposed to a game.
The pacing is the worst in the series. There are moments where you do nothing but climb and talk for like 30 minutes. I enjoy the game, and when it actually allows you to shoot people it plays better than the other ones, but it's not as good as 2 and lacks the HOLY SHIT moments of 3 (still probably the better game though). This feels so strange to me. I would think that the biggest issue with U4 would be that it's "more of the same." I mean, it's Uncharted. It plays like Uncharted but with better gunplay. It certainly had as much "gameplay" as 2 and 3.
I don't really understand that one.

The problem was that by Uncharted 3 they felt like they were in an arms race to up themselves on the last epic set piece. Falling out of a plane, catching a moving parachute and surviving doesn't leave a lot of room to go one better. I was on the side that they needed to pull the reigns in a bit. But now that they've done it I'm sort of on the team of just go over the topRead my post again, and listen to Druckmann's words describing Uncharted 4.
The explicitly stated that they tried "OMG HOLY SHIT" Uncharted moments for 4 but that they didn't work because the game looked so realistic is just got less and less believable. Plus Drake was older, plus the hardware was newer, etc, etc.
Hence they made a conscious decision to have more 'intimate' set pieces. They were up front about that. And they totally nailed it.
WRONG about stealthPrecisely.
It's as I said, Uncharted is not suited for any kind of slow pacing. When the game slows to a crawl it only reveals how shallow the narrative and characters are. And, it's not like Uncharted's puzzle or platforming has ever been in-depth either. So, what you get during these moments is overtly long and drawn out conversations between paper thin characters, on-the-rail platforming, and puzzles for babies. It's only when the shooting starts that things become interesting again, but I also find the pointless sneaking mechanic to detract from that. Uncharted isn't Metal Gear or Splinter Cell, stealth really shouldn't be an option. But, the game attempts to include a half-ass type of stealth that only serves to diminish what should be elaborate combat arenas.
All of these slow paced elements worked great in TLOU, but they just do not help Uncharted in any way. Again, Indiana Jones never became The Road or Kramer v. Kramer. Uncharted should have refined its gunplay/combat, amped up the pacing, and stop trying to act like Drake is some wonderfully complex and deep character. He isn't. Just focus on making a fun, adventure story not whatever UC4 was.

They never turned him into a deep character. It was purely playing into the "coming out of retirement" trope and not much more. Tying in some of his history and his relationship with Elena which has been a story thread throughout four games.Precisely.

I mean, for me it was terrible. That's not to say it's a poorly put together game or others can't enjoy it, but it was a chore for me to finish and I have no plans to ever replay it. It's not what I wanted out of an Uncharted and felt like it tried harder than ever to be

I will always be bummed the crane set piece was taken out at the last minute. I'd have waited another month or two for that to make it in the game.Take out the Scotland chapter and Uncharted 4 is just as good as UC2 and Lost Legacy to me. Shame they couldn't work out the stamina meter due to the troubled development.
Great trailer.
LolUncharted 4 is a great game that could have been terrific if it fixed the pacing and added at least one more crazy set piece. I think Lost Legacy fixed a lot of those issues.
Still, there aren't many series that have had a fourth entry that was just as good as the original trilogy. Mgs4 is the only one that comes to mind.
