TM2 Dinobot was my favorite transformer that I owned during Beast Wars' run, such a cool design. Really excited for the third party offerings. Might have to get both of them if finances will allow.

A little LTTP but got finally got my Missing Link C-02 last weekend from BBTS, easily one of my all-time favorite TF toys. I paired it with a Good Smile figure stand (the toy has a standard 3mm hole in the back for stand pegs) and it's awesome how posable it is.

We can only hope Tomy/Takara attempts more of these later on.

Yeah BBTS was super slow on the Missing Links (mostly because they seem to have been waiting on the Hasbro reboxed versions), but I got both versions and they're honestly fantastic.

I do hope some third party does replacement arm inserts for C-02 to give him the blank forearms with the yellow arrows; it seems like this should be easy to swap. The unpainted toy detailing is my only complaint about him.

I got my Gears and Shard in and I love 'em.

Gears is basically exactly what I like in a Transformer. Kinda chunky, with limbs that turn into the surface of the vehicle instead of a parachute of panels that explodes out from somewhere. The transformation is intuitive but has some novel elements. About my only complaint is that I wish that there had been a teensy bit more budget to add a twist to his chestplate so you could spin it around, with the other side being more truck-like instead of just having his chest as-is on the back.

Shard is pretty good, too, and I like the way the clear plastic pieces are just embedded into the other pieces, rather than her whole chest being made up of clear plastic. There's no in-universe precedent for it, as far as I know, but I really hope they partial this figure as a Helicopter Waspinator at some point.

Yeah, the fact that everyone is acting like a goofball ruined most of the trailer for me... I can tell the action looks good at least, but the trailer at least gave the impression certain scenes could be undercut because of the humor - take the "transforming for the first time" bit in the trailer - should be an epic moment, instead its a bunch of people running off a cliff and struggling to transform. Not what Id hoped to see at all...

I didn't realize it was Dreamworks and that explains why it feels like every other kids cartoon, just that very common "every character must quip" thing.

Yeah, I may be easy to please, but I'll give it a watch. It doesn't look like something that'll really stick with me, but maybe it will stick with some kid.

My biggest concern was that the designs would be shit and we'd get shitty toys or have to deal with gross designs becoming the status quo or something, but the designs are fine, so I'm good. I'm actually excited about the Optimus figure.

DNA designs is doing a third party upgrade kit for Legacy Animated Optimus to make him resemble the cancelled concept from what was to be Animated Season 4.

PMOP_026.jpg

Really tempted picking up a Legacy Animated Prime just for this, but I'm not sure on DNA Designs' QC after hearing some comments on their Animated Prowl upgrade kit, if anyone knows more about them.

I've bought a few of their upgrade kits and they have been pretty solid. Just the ones for the Titan class figures, which aren't exactly a ton of engineering needed though, this is kinda on a different level.

I'm still not crazy about that Animated Prime figure, though if I were I'd probably pick this up easy.

Reminds me of the good ol' days when the biggest 3rd party thing was the City Commander upgrade kit for the Classics Optimus.

I have numerous DNA kits for the various Titans and SS Dinobots and they're all extremely well made. I would get this without hesitation if I cared about TFA at all.

That animated Prime kit looks tempting. I was originally going to skip out the new TFA figures but picked up Prowl and enjoyed the posability so went for Optimus and Bee and ended up liking both. I might get the upgrade kit for Optimus just to have a trailer for his altmode.

Studio Series '86 Bumblebee was confirmed today, for everyone who missed out on the Earthrise Walmart exclusive.

Also '86 Springer with a partial remold.

I kinda assume they will skip the official VW branding on SS86 Bee to get around licensing costs.

Springer the original is pretty good outside the dirty paintjob and the helicopter rotor piece which I keep losing.

I don't know how they could do that for something they put in Studio Series though (not licensing the car). They do obviously do it on the lower lines (like RID Side Burn) but not for Studio Series.

What I guess I mean is if the alt mode is something closer to the penny-racer style instead of something realistic is it different enough to not have to get VW involved.

Studio Series is supposed to match the cartoon (specifically the movie), not the toy, though. Though I don't remember if Bumblebee even transformed in that. It's also why I don't think we'll ever see a Megatron.

I mean, he could very well turn into a functioning cassette player. There's nothing in his design that prevents just having a walkman unit in his torso. That would probably push me into getting one. It would also be a solid alt mode for when he's powered off.

Yeah, my biggest problem with the Robosen stuff is that they need to have power to retain their robot mode. If it just reverted back into a cassette player, though? Not going to lie, I'd be into that.

Yeah I guess I figured they wouldn't want an alt mode that couldn't move but it would be cool if it had sounds and stuff (like ejecting tapes). It's just that they're deathly afraid of even putting out a regular release Soundwave that turns into a player, let alone one that cost 1000 bucks.

I watched a video of Megatron and Optimus reenacting the fight in the movie… and now I really want a Megatron. It's just too expensive though.

I don't really care about most of the new figures, but I have to say that Nucleous is just beautiful. If I was a kid he'd be my go-to hero.

I'm interested in Hot Shot and Vector Prime purely for their looks, ha. I've thought about picking up the original Cybertron Vector Prime from time to time, I've always liked his design.

For anyone here who is a fan of Transformers fiction, I created a thread a few days ago to find out what people's favorite origins of the Decepticons are. Which ones do you prefer?

www.resetera.com

What is the best/favorite origin of the Decepticons (Transformers)

Lately I've been rereading Transformers and noticed how not only do they have different origins in various versions, but how the Decepticons tend to change a lot, going from being based on far-right governments to other types. Here is a summary of the main origins: - Marvel Comics: - The...

Megatron can be powered down and stay in Robot apparently

Hot damn. The doo dads in his torso including a battery charge meter is also a nice touch.

I didn't like G2 camo megatron back in the day, but I am all about this gunmetal tank remodel. Bummed about the estimated ship date I got since I was on the fence about this one, but looks to be the best designed one yet based on the videos

As a triple changer that changes into a helicopter and buggy, Sandstorm is so much better than Springer. I guess it is a little apples and oranges comparing a Legacy Leader to a Siege Voyager but still. Rubber tires, all the wheels are pinned, the rotor blades are all self contained, you get this cool cage/wench thing, really nice. Also everything is super intuitive and simple and solid.

Yeah, he's pretty dang great. The two modes are pretty distinct, too. He's not a "well, you can tell this other stuff hanging off him is for another mode" case. Looking at either mode you could think that was it.

I still don't know if I'm a fan of how they did his legs, but otherwise I really like him.

Bumblebee transforms in TF:TM after the rest of the Autobots meet Rodimus in order to drive out of Unicron's eye.

We already have a leaked product listing for a Studio Series 86 Megatron. And the Hasbro design team have said on Instagram that "if" they did one he'd have to turn into a tank before, so it seems like we are basically getting another go at Earthrise Megatron.
