I'm thinking about picking up Rainbow Six Siege and giving it a go online over the break. Back in the original Xbox era, Rainbow Six 3 was probably the most fun I've ever had with an online game, and I've been wanting something to capture that same type of experience on consoles.

I see these mega sales as times to check out the smaller titles, NOT the high profile ones. If that's all you're looking for, you're likely to be disappointed regardless of what time of year it is. Yeah it sucks that each new time a game is on sale isn't the new lowest price, but that happens with everything everywhere.

Personally, i picked up 10 games last night for $51, with that credit having been bought on sale, so the cost to me was ~$43. Sitting on the higher priced stuff til closer to the cutoff date to see if one of those 20% off cart codes shows up.

Seriously considering the Witcher 3 expansion pass, despite having already put over a hundred hours into that game and having a backlog on Switch...

Also thinking about the Castlevania twofer, since I never played either Rondo or Symphony, and between Smash and the Netflix series I'm itching for more Castlevania in my life.

I was in for Assassins CreedOdyssey- gold version at $50 (the extra $20 over the standard versionis well worth it IMO for included season pass (usually retails for $40) which gives 2 substantial DLC expansions, plus AC3 remastered (including THAT games expansions) and AC3 Liberation remastered. First of these season passes I've seen that actually seem worth it (in terms of quality and substantial single player content).

Nothing in the new stuff. Maybe SOTN but I doubt I'd want to play it again as I played it on PS3 and it felt old.

Gun Club seems good but I'm short like $1. :/ .....

So dumb question but I assume that you can't play Skyrim VR on a normal monitor right?

I've been thinking about replaying the game and since I now have a PSVR, getting the VR version makes sense but at the same time, Skyrim is the kind of game I love to play while listening to podcasts or watching TV shows so it would be nice if I could do both...

MLB The Show's Road to the Show mode is the best around.
thanks.

hows nba 2k19? heard the mtx ruined the offline modes (slow exp gains). i played nba 2k17 and loved it
always played nhl but getting bored of the same old formula (will probably pick up nhl 19 during offseason)
mlb the show seemed interesting. may give it a go. any major differences between 17 and 18?
all would be played offline

How's Star Wars Battlefront 2, particularly the offline modes? Did the EA nonsense get worked out? My kids have recently discovered the first Battlefront and this seems like a good, cheap upgrade.

Thanks for all the work Captain.

SOTN is tempting, especially at that price so early after release. But I'm gonna wait until 75% discount considering I have enough stuff to play.

People can be upset about all the MTX issues, but I've always thought the game is a lot of fun and there is a ton of stuff to do offline. You have the campaign, you can customize and play the game modes against bots, there is an arcade mode with escalating scenarios with various difficulties for both light and dark side, and I'm pretty sure some of this can be done in split screen co-op. Easily worth the few bucks especially if you like Star Wars.

hmmm Im wondering if I should wait, I have 10 dollar credit and an additional 20% off coupon. Wondering if anything great will come out near the end. Right now the only thing I am eyeing is the division.

Excellent, thank you! Sounds like they'll enjoy it, and if not I'm sure at least I will.

Just so on the fence about odyssey. I adore the setting but was so underwhelmed and bored by Origins, as beautiful as it was. I loved syndicate and AC black flag.

AC Odyssey is a fantastic open world action RPG. I think it's better than Origins in nearly every aspect, but it has strayed even farther away from the old AC formula than Origins did. If you can deal with that then I would say you will enjoy it.

I'm not here to convince you of anything but I just ended my playthroughs (full plat plus the dlc) and I clocked in at 136 hours. If you want a game that will last, AC Odyssey definitely will.

Could use a little help here folks.

I just got a PS4. Due to extenuating circumstances (life) I missed out on this whole gen + the last 1/3 of the last.

Got a list curated of 16 games I'm interested in
Journey
Cities Skylines
Furi
Transistor
Shovel Knight Treasure Trove
Bloodborne complete
The Witcher 3 complete
Darkest Dungeon
Owlboy
MH World
Grim Fandango
Both Gravity Rushes
Prey
Doom
Bastion

Getting all these would run me about $230. Doable but maybe not wise. Any tips for curation?

Kind of a mixed bag. Are you not interested in PS4 exclusives like Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted, God of War and Spider-Man?

Journey, Transistor, Shovel Knight, Bloodborne, Witcher, MH, Gravity Rushes, Prey, and Doom are 100% highly recommended. All of those are excellent games. Personally I'm much less sure on most of the others just from having little to no experience with them.

Out of all of those i'd say go
Gravity Rush 1 and 2
Witcher 3 - I'm not a fan but it's highly praised.
Shovel Knight
Journey
Monster Hunter world- Post in the OT for some people to play with.
Doom

I'd also look at the ps4 exclusives as well.

Prey
Doom

7 games, for the price of 2 brand new ones. Lots of variety and use of my time.

My favorites from those are Journey, Transistor, Shovel Knight, Bloodborne, Gravity Rush (I would just start with the first one though and then when you beat that buy the second on sale), and Bastion.

Also consider Pyre, it's my favorite of the SuperGiant games.

Another one that I've found in this sale is Minit, it's a cool little Zelda-like with a neat 60 second life hook. Definitely reminiscent of Half-Minute Hero if anybody remembers that.

Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy IMO should be on your list, and Until Dawn is an underrated gem of a game as well. And of course, God of War is one of the best games of the generation.

I highly recommend Transistor. One of the best games this gen for me.

The soundtrack is amazing and the gameplay is pretty cool once you get how it works.

I wanted Ys 8 but I don't want it $42 bad. Nothing else really there for me.
Spider Man came with my PS4 (thanks holiday sale), and while I have an interest in the others, I've always gravitated towards "gamier" games over cinematic.
Spiderman is far "gamier" than Journey (which is at the top of your list?). That game is essentially holding your left stick forward for a couple hours.

e: Mistake, didn't see your final list.

If you needed to trim it down I would recommend cutting Furi and Cities Skylines off the list for now. Most of those other games are better and both Furi and Cities go on sale all the time so you can always pick them up later for cheap most likely.
