I don't know about you guys and gals, but as a student of strategy I'm just sitting in awe of Trump the Master right now.

By Politico's count there are only 10 Democrats who haven't said anything in support of the impeachment inquiry:

Collin Peterson (MN-7, Trump+31)
Anthony Brindisi (NY-22, Trump+16)
Joe Cunningham (SC-1, Trump+13)
Kendra Horn (OK-5, Trump+13)
Max Rose (NY-11, Trump+10)
Jared Golden (ME-2, Trump+10)
Xochitl Torres Small (NM-2, Trump+10)
Ben McAdams (UT-4, Trump+7)
Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2, Trump+5)
Ron Kind (WI-3, Trump+5)

So you know, reasonable enough. I think a few of them could get away with it without it impacting their re-election chances too much, but we're at 226 now anyway including Amash so it doesn't really matter except on principle.

So is it surprising that Dan Lipinski isnt on this list or is he able to go with the flow when we need him to?

Inherent Contempt hasn't really been tested in the courts, but fining these fucks $20K/ day will clarify things for those lower on the ladder
inherent contempt has been tested in the courts

It has gone before SCOTUS a number of times

they stopped using it because it didn't work very well and punishment was limited by the Supreme Court (eg it couldn't extend past the end of the session). So statutory contempt was created to be harsher but it doesn't work when you're investigating the party in power. Even since then inherent contempt has been used and ruled on by the Supreme Court

My parents live in one of those districts. They called and told them that they supported impeachment, so they did their part so move the needle.

OK thanks. I think Beto would work just fine other than the AR lightning rod. I also wouldn't be surprised if she went with another out-of-nowhere pick, though, a la Kaine. With that said, Kaine wasn't a bad pick for being a surprise. He was a bad pick because he was super boring and added nothing to the ticket other than being a man.
I actually don't think the AR thing will ultimately be that big of a deal - the educated white suburbanite, Romney-Clinton-types are going to be significantly more inclined to agree with it than the rural social conservatives that used to deliver Democratic victories in Texas (and other Southern states).

The winning coalition in Texas are activating non-voters and convincing more college-educated whites to switch sides. I'm sure a number of them still supported Trump in the last election just by default and because Clinton of all people wasn't going to be the Democrat to win them over. We might have that with Beto - he couldn't beat Cruz, but Cruz is still popular in Texas. Voter turnout also went through the roof, but it was still a midterm, and turning Texas blue wasn't exactly going to happen in one cycle.

Anyway I could be totally wrong, but eh. Polling has been fine for the AR ban/buyback. Probably would come down to how well the candidates could sell it as well.

Is he that conservative? His district went Clinton+15, so his constituents would be chomping at the bit to see Trump removed from office.
Yeah he's a blue dog asshole. Anti-ACA, anti-gay, anti-abortion, refused to vote for Pelosi as Speaker even though she endorsed him in his last primary. He's coasted on name recognition, iirc his dad was a Congressman from the same district.

The Hunter Biden thing kind of reminds me of how the whole Al Franken situation played out.

Conservative: "Hah! So are you going to demand that Al Franken step down now!?"

Liberals : "Yes, get his ass out of there"

Conservative: "Lol checkmate libs! I knew you'd-wait wut?"

It's hard for them to grasp that we don't have any entirely different rule set for our own.

Actually had a conservative cousin come up to me at a family function after all the stuff came out about Franken to tell me he respected my position on it (I wanted Franken gone), that he knew I was a big Franken supporter and that he was upset by Republicans supporting Trump and other politicians in spite of... well, everything.

Pretty sure he was already a never-Trumper, but hey, not everyone's a lost cause. Also vaguely remember him saying in 2012 he wanted us to go over the fiscal cliff because letting the Clinton tax rates go into effect again was the only way to eliminate the deficit. I don't really care about the deficit, but if that's your aim, it was probably the only right move back then.

Soooooooooo... no one's told him yet that even if his lies were magically true that it's still a potentially impeachable offense? Because, you know, the president isn't the atty general of Ukraine and EVEN THEN IF HE WAS it would still be impeachable because of the money threat.

I think it's because the word lie indicates that it was intentional, and while the "falsehoods" almost certainly are intentional, the press has no way of proving that, which leaves them more open to libel suits.
In that case it would be OK to label those responsible for the "falsehood" ignorant, since if they don't know what they're saying is a lie that's exactly what they are.

Text from Giuliani when asked why he was no longer appearing at Kremlin-linked event reported by the Washington Post: "[Told] me Putin was going and I don't need to give the Swamp press more distractions." (He then "liked" the message.)

Is this Kamala's last ditch effort to get traction in the primary? I think Beto showed banging one issue isn't gonna get you anywhere.

AOC is the Dem Socialist Bernie wishes he was.

I disagree with some of her politics, but she understands how to play within the system and get what she wants. It's why, should she choose at some point, she's going to be far more successful.

Wonder how much clout Mittens would have if he voted to convict, if he'd bring some other votes with him or if he would just become a pariah.

He doesn't face re-election until 2024. Assuming Trump doesn't get re-elected, any lingering resentment in Utah should be mostly gone at that point. He probably has the least to lose of any GOP member that isn't retiring.
