The USSR and China genociding their own population, destroying their own economic output via central planning, and descending into authoritarian fascism is a pretty fucking goddamn bad outcome for their countries.

That you instead believe that they would have succeeded if not for those meddling US kids is ridiculous.
Don't worry, US heading towards authoritarian fascism without ever going through the whole socialism/communism phase anyway!

Also damn Pete's hand went up MAD QUICK when Sanders attacked him on billionaire donors. Felt more like an act of admission than a contention..

That's a strawman. I never said that the USSR and the PRC would have succeeded without US intervention. They each had unique challenges to be sure.

Uhhh...Bob Barr is one of the dudes leading the charge into fascism. Unless that's what you actually meant.
No, I mean that he literally suggested nationalizing companies a day or two ago.
Klobuchar is too racist for me. She's a non-starter. People got on Kamala Harris for being a prosecutor, but Klobuchar was a prosecutor and a much bigger piece of shit than Kamala ever was.
But yet there's no Klobuchar the Cop memes.

I LOLd (accurate description of the pundit-sphere):

Well they can say what they want but this was definitely Klob's strongest performance and she was hitting Buttiegeg harder than she was hitting Bernie (even standing by him). She has made a clearer claim than before and especially on how experience matters when talking against Pete.

That said when you are not the front runner it's much easier to have big nights. No one is framing tough questions against you because no one has done enough research.

Look at what happened to Bernie and Buttiegeg this debate. Other candidates being asked about if socialism could win in GE, then asked about if Bernie is easy to work with based on Clinton's remarks and then after the 15th time in these debates "how you gonna pay for M4A?" And then a more valid, non right wing framed question about Bernie's gun policies on the past. Buttiegeg had THE most brutal question asked to him of the debate on top of having to answer a loaded yes/no question about Suleimani.

You don't get questions like these when you are polling at 5th place. And there are a ton of things you can attack Klob on if you wanted to (I think even on debate stage it was brought up about her prosecutions).

Klobb unironically sounded good. But all of her stuff was empty platitudes and the 'We can't have better things tweet'.

Also she's abusive to her staff.

I'm assuming because people thought Harris was actually a threat when she announced. Prolly more to it than that but yeah, the love that she's getting is absurd.

I did chuckle at her calling out Bernie about how only 20 Senators support M4A though

Can't decide: Copbuchar or Klobucop?
Klobber-Cop

The cop that klobbers you with their cop stick.

Joking aside, Klob's whole abusive/anger issues with staff are like really abhorrent. She was even asked about it and she didn't even denied it just said she has a lot of passion and is very competitive plus has high expectations from her staff.

And man she really dislikes Pete. She can see through that fake politician, fake midwesterner crap that Pete likes to spew.

Edit: Just saw the Chris Mathews meltdown... HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Just full on right wing fear mongering going on and just talking over other hosts. Chris Hayes had to settle him down before he kept his deranged rant going.

I'd imagine this was because for a good amount of time, Kamala was in the top 3/4 when Amy was near the bottom. Even now Amy is pretty much solidly at 5th place.

Plus I think Amy literally hurling staplers at her staff kinda stuck just fine tbh

Amy legitimately has no chance of winning. But Bernie needs her to do well to stave off Pete. It's kinda crazy how neatly the cards are falling. She very well might push Biden to 5th place as well.

The moderates really didn't think this one through. They probably didn't expect the Biden voting block to be so receptive to other moderate candidates.

Should have been an easy nomination for them having someone with some name recognition and basically not being Hillary Clinton.

Lmao Chris Matthews is trending.

Conservatives are cheering him on and the left is pissed at him. Guess he can always switch over to Fox now.

Yea that pisses me off to no end. Kamala was flawed but Klob just flys under the radar.
To be fair, Klobbers is widely recognized for the abusive monster she is to her staffers and is getting meme'd endlessly. Had Kamala not decided to drop out, I think she would have done better than her in Iowa.

Didn't watch the debate but judging by everyone's reactions:

- Everybody that likes Bernie thought Bernie did fantastic.
- Everybody that likes Warren thought Warren did fantastic.
- Everybody who hates Petes (which is all of PoliEra) thought he did terrible or committed a fatal error.
- Everybody loved that Klob went after Pete with a figurative loaded stapler.
- Everybody who wanted Biden to underwhelm thought he underwhelmed.
- Everybody liked that Steyer is becoming a Bernie Bro and did decent on a couple of race questions
- Universally everyone thought Yang should get off the stage.

In the absence of objective analysis of the frontrunners I guess I'll just have to watch the debate myself.

This is one of the things that have driven me crazy about Klob. Supposedly Klob has the same fatal error that caused Twitter-Left to completely dunk on Harris during the summer months, calling her Copmala and the like. Yet not once has Twitter-Left or the media given Klob's prosecution career any kind of scrutiny. Harris had FAR better poll numbers than Klob ever had. Even on Harris' worse days when she was chugging at 5-6%, at the same time Klob was barely registering at 1%. Yet the knives were out for Harris to just get out of the race immediately.

I know part of it is an expectations game so there were low expectations of Klob so people just let her keep flying under the radar. But it's insane that after all the debates she's been in, she's never gotten any kind of scrutiny and there's been absolutely no accountability for her tepid poll numbers. I'm low-key furious that Harris was forced to leave the race but Klob has just been allowed to drift along with little tiny spurts here and there. It seems the people of color are always asked to get out immediately if they don't seem like frontrunners but white candidates can just stay as long as they want. I kept reading stories and watching shows where Kamala, Castro, and Booker were constantly told to just shut it down to clear space for the frontrunners. Why does no one say this about Bennet, Steyer or Klob?

I think the Online Left was actually scared about a viable Kamala, so they worked to torpedo her the best they could. They don't fear Klobuchar.

I kind of have the impression that Biden is bleeding support to these other moderates specifically because for most of the US they don't have his name recognition. It allows people to vote for their hypothetical Obama-era status quo while still picking an "outsider."

It's all an illusion, of course. But I think there's some benefit to them being new faces compared to Biden. Biden sort of assures liberals that "we can go back to how things were" but Buttigieg (and to a lesser extent Klobuchar) make liberals think they can have the same things just while still moving forward instead of back.

I dunno. I don't support any of them personally so I can't say I understand it but I am becoming more and more assured that Buttigieg lets people who like Biden get "Biden, but new!" and that's interests them more than "Same Old Biden."

It is weird to think of someone like Pete as an outsider because this is not at all reflected in his policy but for most of America he is a total stranger who beat Biden in Iowa so now they're thinking "why not?"

This concludes my excellent political analysis.

The World

He pays his staff more than any other 2020 Democrat's campaign and offers housing if they have to move to New York City, according to a campaign official.

Trump is the king of Facebook ads, but Bloomberg has spent $5.7 million more than the president's campaign in the past month.

Stories about Bloomberg have remained in the top 5 for social media interactions for the past few weeks,
according to the Axios-Newswhip 2020 Attention Tracker.

At least people will make a good living off the Bloomberg campaign. But thank god he understands the power of Facebook and I hope he devotes these resources to helping the 2020 nominee and Dems up and down the ticket.

a rich Canadian choosing to get healthcare in Russia is extremely suspicious

If we find out he was on the payroll of FSB/Deripaska or some shit I swear.

His FB spend is huge to counter Individual-1/dirty money spend. More should be.

A thing that bothers me.

The story about the Vindland brothers being fired broke last night. Already this morning, it doesn't make the news briefing from NPR in the news blip they run.

I don't know what their guidelines are for how long any one story can run, but it's crazy to me that you could miss a story like that almost completely just by being out of the loop for 12 hours. It feels like our news cycle is being driven by the same algorithms that push fresh content on Reddit.

I realize NPR has a limited timeslot for news on radio, but I am betting a lot of their listens these days come from people asking their Echo or Google Home device for the news. They could patch in an extra 2-3min of important content from last night's news on these devices.
