[VGC] The Apple version of the Resident Evil 4 remake will cost $60 (see threadmark)

The game is now available for pre-order on the iOS Store, though only those with devices capable of playing it – iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and some iPad Pro and iPad Air models.

VGC can confirm that in the UK, the base game is free, but it includes a number of in-app purchases, one of which is £57.99 for 'Resident Evil 4'. The US App Store, according to TouchArcade, is charging $59.99.

The addition of a $60 / £58 in-app purchase implies that the initial 'free' 700MB version will be some sort of demo to show the game running on the device, at which point players will have to pay for the full game.

Nothing wrong per say with the price, but it won't work on mobile.
Which is why mobile sucks for gaming outside of emulation.

This only makes sense. It's the same game on all platforms. But the audience for mobile games is not disciplined to put down that much money for a game, so good luck with that.

    Don't see it going well at that price sadly. The mobile audience is trained to treat games and apps as disposable cheap or free media.

    Edit: The game is worth that much, absolutely, but it's an uphill struggle convincing people to spend $60 on a mobile version game (even if it's on par graphically and in terms of content, and even when the license is shared across devices)

    This is probably the right price in the sense you don't want to devalue your product, but no way is this going to sell huge numbers.

    But then again - it doesn't have to. Its a port of an existing title, probably didn't cost a ton to do, so any sales are gravy. Good title to experiment on something like this with.

    Should have bundled it with apple arcade though - could have been a big driver.

    I guess it just depends on how good the experience will be. I don't see this selling as good as any of the console versions due to the price.

    But for someone who doesn't own a console this could be something new and worth it depending on how good the port is.

    The most I've paid for a mobile game was RE4 VR for around $30, and it was 100% worth it. RE4 in general is just a really good game.

    Ok, having it the $60 purchase also give you the Mac version of the game is much better. Of course, that's a very specific set-up where someone owns both an iPhone 15 Pro or iPad and a Mac capable of running the game. Then again, it's very easy to assume that someone with a Mac also has an iPhone.

    Yes, although Family sharing is lacking, but that depends on the publisher.
    Hope there'll be another Apple Arcade tier that'll include the console level titles. It'll take a while but there's quite a lot coming, more than before.

    Guessing Capcom got paid by Apple already, so might as well see if you can baby step towards getting mobile players to buy a game. If they didn't actually get paid for the port like lol, why even waste your time if you want to charge console/PC prices?

    To really enjoy it you need a nice good controller and headset....which if you already have you are probably already a gamer with access to this game on bigger screens at cheaper prices.

    I think its impressive that these can play natively, but really just an impressive tech demo/novelty. If apple wants to get real serious about more sophisticated games, hardware, and subscription it would really be interesting, but for now I think they just want to brag that the iphone can play these games.

    I'm absolutely okay with full $60 titles being available as such on iOS.

    The only thing that would make me cranky is when titles do not also come with an Apple TV or macOS version like a lot of Apple Arcade games can manage. Playing with a Backbone is alright but I like options and I don't like playing anything intensive on a phone too long for battery and heat reasons.
