NSMB didn't even reach the previous bar for visuals. I would keep expectations low.btw if TWO DUDES could make a game that looks as good as cuphead I fully expect multibillion dollar corporation Nintendo to top that with a new mario game
the bar has been raised for 2d platformer visuals
Ala Wario Shake It. It would be fantasticNew 2D Motion Artstyle based on classic 2D art by Yoichi Kotabe
Get rid of yellow Toad because he should never have been the 4th player in the first place. Add at the BARE MINIMUM Peach and Rosalina because they already have designs for them in power-up suits (because of 3D World).
Beside the aforementioned art style and music, I would like to see the challenges from the 3DS Mario maker be included for all levels (personally over the 3 star coins being the challenge portion of each level). Those challenges are some of the most enjoyable moments in any 2D Mario game.
At this point, existence.
I was just thinking this morning about how Odyssey didn't really sate my appetite for some Mario platforming. NSMB probably has a much better chance of hitting soon than a 3D World successor, and I'm ready for it.
- New 2D Motion Artstyle based on classic 2D art by Yoichi Kotabe
You all know the artwork. You've seen it everywhere. It's been used more and more to represent Mario and friends outside the games. But I think if Nintendo were to use this artstyle in a similar vein to Cuphead, it would excite a lot of fans and give the series a fresh look.
On whether we'll see a 2D game made of Yoichi Kotabe's classic Mario art…
We're at almost like a turning point. When you look at Mickey Mouse there is the classic Mickey Mouse, and then there is the modern Mickey Mouse and the classic one has a lot of flavor to it and the modern Mickey Mouse looks really great, but it is losing a little bit of the flavor, and that's something we discuss to make sure we keep that intact as we're creating characters. And of course the development team for any Mario game may want to use Kotabe's art, but there is also a character-development team that's really working hard to create new styles and new work. Once they get more work done, I think more and more of that will be reflected into games.
We did a collaboration recently with Uniqlo where it was a contest for people to send in drawings, and like that we want to continue create and evolve new art styles.
… I do believe that Mr Kotabe's art has become kind of a standard within Nintendo, but we definitely want to continue to see if we can evolve that as time goes by.
At that point they'll call it New Super Mario Land lol. But I definitely agree with more variety in levels. No more Grass/Desert/Snowy/Seaside/Forest/Mountain/Sky/Lava themed levels.- Crazier levels, like a witch house where you get shrunk and fight ants (like in Super Mario Land 2), a lego tower, a carnival, etc etc.
