Jurassic World is Shawshank-tier writing next to this.

My situation right now

This hyperbole is really something.
I agree. Some of the hate in this thread for Jurassic World is just a bit too much. There are worse movies out there.

Why I think JW2 is better than the first.

* Better directed
* Better paced
* Better hybrid dino
* Less annoying kids
* Better action set pieces

Writing wise, both movies were awful but JW1 had the better final act leading to end though.

PSA: If some of y'all haven't watched a J.A. Bayona movie prior to JW2, please at least watch The Impossible.

Honestly, if the legs start to get bad, that's one thing. But a $140 million opening is fantastic.

Again: It's really, really hard to pass a $100 Million opening. If they kept the budget in check and have good legs, this movie/franchise will be fine.

I thought it was WAY better than the first as well. It should be interesting where they take the third movie.

I think it will do fine. Legs will be decent. It isn't going to hit $600 million but if it opens to $140 million, it should be able to clear $400million at the minimum with decent legs which I expect for it.

$140M OW with a 2.9x multiplier gives us $406M.

I thought Jurassic World was lame and Fallen Kingdom looks even lamer but there's no denying the popularity of dinosaurs as evidenced by FK's international haul and estimated opening
I do agree with sentiments that AM&TW doesn't seem to have much hype around it, which is weird since it's coming off the heels of Infinity War which everyone on Earth besides like 3 people saw
I think the people expecting it to have a $100 million opening should temper expectations

As someone who didn't care for TLJ it amazes me how people still won't just move the fuck on from it.

It's just a movie for fuck sake! Let go!

$100M was never on the cards. It was always going to be a bigger opening than the first one (not a surprise) but the range was usually 75M to 90M which is nowhere close to $100M.

2.9x Opening weekend is very unlikely. Next weekend is light, but July is full of wide releases

I saw Fallen Kingdom again

It's grown on me - once you accept the type of film it is, and remove it from the property it's attached from, you can really enjoy JA Bayona's filmmaking. I think I might develop a soft spot for this one - but I never want to see another Jurassic this schlocky and over the top again.

While I enjoyed JW1-2 so far the ending of the latest movie
Basically puts the same dinosaurs in the open world. I don't really see much appeal for this scenario. If they go with another hybrid, it will be a terrible cop-out.
If the dinosaurs are now out in the open, we will have the army fighting them but to what end? They are hardly in a significant quantity to be a proper threat and can be captured or killed with enough firepower.

I guess we will find out where it ends up based on the opening week. If it opens closer to the high-end estimates ($150M), it can still end up above $350M and thus become the 4th best grossing movie this year behind Black Panther, Incredibles 2 and Infinity War.

I found out why relatively few people were at my theater for Jurassic World 2 last night.

They're all here for it today

I've seen the last 10-15 minutes of Fallen Kingdom like 10 times and I can speak empirically

Nothing about at least 1/10 of the film is as bad as Ghost in the Shell

I think when the reviews hit and we start getting closer (and the internet inevitably hints about an Avengers 4 tease) we'll start seeing excitement go up a bit. But I do agree to keep expectations in check for now.

As someone who has not seen Fallen Kingdom I can say without a shred of a doubt that I don't know if it's worse or better than other stuff.

Honestly, I hope I'm wrong and this movie turns out to be awesome. Heck, I end up liking a lot of movies that the general audience doesn't like.

It's just that the first Jurassic World and Colin Trevorrow don't exactly fill me with confidence. I guess I'll find out for good tomorrow...or Monday.

Maybe? It's much worse than Orient Express or Ghost in the Shell.
Orient Express was so bad. So so bad and boring. Almost a complete slog for me. But a major reason why I felt that way was because I watched it right after ending the original so it wasn't exactly a good decision by any means.

Ghost in the Shell was the same. I quit the movie after the 20-minute mark and then never returned to it again.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom had my attention from the start till the end. It is not comparable to these movies in my opinion. But Bronson also liked Colossus and it was another movie that felt like a giant waste of time to me so I can't speak for his taste. I never managed to finish In The Mountain Between Us and dropped it as soon as they were rescued while it is the Top ten movie of Bronson.

You can know it is a Treveorrow movie with the script but the direction this time is better for sure. Bayona has done whatever he can to salvage the terrible script hacked together by Tervorrow.

Orient Express was excellent
The best part of Ghost in the Shell was the 90 minutes I stayed out of the sweltering Orlando heat drinking Yuengling

Ghost in the Shell was really boring but it was a gorgeous film, the visuals carried it from 'bad' to 'whatever'. It's definitely worth at least one watch for the visuals.

It's weird because BP and Avengers had a full month of promotion while AM/TW had to share marketing with Incredibles 2 and couldn't get a full month because of it.
