BP reaching $700m dom. always felt like a weird extra goalpost people wanted just to celebrate it more.

And I get it, the amount of money it made is definitely an important stepping stone for a mainstream blockbuster with a majority black cast.

But we already got there. Months ago.
It's not like there was someone coming into the thread and writing a college thesis every week about how BP was going to make $700m. Nope. No one would ever do that.

I kind of stopped watching and caring about Mission Impossible over the years, but decided to go see Fallout this past Friday after all of the hype I've been hearing and man, that movie was REALLY good. I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan or even Henry Cavill fan, but I really liked them both in that movie.

Pooh getting poo'd on. Damn that's a really low start.

I mean, it's not "really low." I'm not sure what you expected a new Winnie the Pooh movie to make. The article in the OP even points out that in a couple days, it will be the total global run of 2011's Pooh film.

Expectations are important. Pooh was never going to be a movie that opened at $50m and Disney knows that.

Still preferable than Solo/TLJ mental gymnastics posts.

I mean, even if you believe that, Marvel keeping it in some theaters up to this weekend (which is a ridiculously overlong time period for films these days) surely showed it wasn't just fans who wanted that
When I said people, that was definitely including Marvel.

Oh come one Tigger's not that creepy.

The Lovecraftian abominations Disney crafted for Beauty and the Beast were way worse.

Pooh is gonna need to settle back on Disney's new streaming service I think, roll out a new animated show or something to get younger generations into the brand again.

I dunno if this gif is accurate or not for Christopher Robin.

70a.gif

It's a miss for Winnie the Pooh, which with those numbers seems to be the case. But a miss is good for Christopher Robin in this instance as a pitcher, but not as a film...

Look, I just wanted an excuse to post this gif. I now also demand a Paddington VS Pooh style gif to similar degree, the poster is a good start.

Fallout opened in China right? Do we have numbers for specifically that? I expected it to be huge but doesn't seem that big

JW2 keeps creeping up the all time lists. May even pass Frozen for the #12 spot. That would put it around $60M short of the Last Jedi, which I don't think many people expected last year.

Deserved for MI. Great movie. I feel sad for Pooh but this has bomba written all over it. Should have been a animation.

Actually I am pretty surprised it didn't surpass TLJ. I knew it was in for a decline in America but I expected Asian markets to remain steadier.

*sighs* Like in the last thread, we already came to the conclusion that Ted is the real hero of live action CGI bears!

Ted = 766 mil at the Box Office

Ted was also nominated for an Oscar! When has Paddington ever even come close!

The audience chose Ted and the audience is always right.

I'm more disappointed that Infinity War didn't end up beating TFA worldwide. "Only" by $23M too

$2B was the big one. 3rd vs 4th place worldwide doesn't been as much.

I am curious to see what our 5th $2B+ film is. Avengers 4, The Lion King, and Avatar 2 seem like the likeliest contenders out of what has been announced.

Great hold for Fallout. I saw it two days ago and thought it was excellent. IMO it's one of the best films I've seen this year.

Super happy BP finally hit the $700M milestone. "I HAVE NOT YIELDED!"

I was really hoping Disney had a Paddington equivalent on their hands with Christopher Robin, so the film ultimately receiving average reviews bums me out quite a bit. I'll eventually see it, but likely not in the theaters.

If the wonderfuly animated and charming Pooh from a few years back did peanuts, how the hell did anyone expect this shit to do better?

In Pooh 2011's defense, that was released against the final Harry Potter film (Deathly Hallows Pt. 2) in the US with barely any advertising. Disney literally sent that film out to be buried (and bury future attempts at theatrical 2D animated films with it...).

Congrats to Black Panther for going from basically $700 million to literally $700 million I guess

Mission Impossible doing the impossible, stellar numbers for this pic

Christopher Robin's not something I was paying attention to, but I naively thought it'd do better

A regular sequel drop should easily get Avatar 2 to 2b. Especially with an outsized China performance.

Yeah, it's a meaningless milestone, especially when it's all Disney anyway.

I just have a grudge against JJ Abrams :-P

This is quite literally the first time I'm seeing backlash over these Pooh designs

Wait, are we sure IW won't best TFA worldwide at this point? If so... ordinarily I'm not one to become invested in that sorta thing at all, but I'm cheering lol.

MI keeps running

Should see a bump next week when MoviePass allows 3 people to watch it on the Cinemark employee's iPhone at 1130 PM

If/When Incredibles II makes it to $600 Million domestic, I will feel vindicated at everyone who said "it probably won't do that well."

Also, everyone sleeping on Into The Spider-Verse will eat crow in a few months. You'll see.

Tigger's probably the worst of the bunch, but I honestly think the rest look fine.

It's the films dull gray palette that I actually have a problem with.

Far as I know, it's starts grey to represent Christopher Robins adult life and becomes more and more colourful the closer he reconnects back to his childhood.

Could have shown that in the trailer though, whoops.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is having some crazy good holds

It should be able to do over $210m domestic

We are back at the point where Ant-Man might end up over Solo domestically. That seemed to not be in the cards for a bit after the second weekend.

What a weird summer this will be if Solo ends up being 7th, behind MI6 and Ant-Man.
