I can't say I remember any cards doing anything like Xyz Materials before.
Back when Xyz came out the player base collectively drank stupid serum and kept asking and asking and complaining about how "confused" they were with the novel concept of putting a card on top of another, and the one on top being considered the only card in play.
That wouldn't have happened if there was any precedent tbh.
Been playing Duel Links and Legacy of the Duelist for awhile, so I'm getting in the mood to get some actual physical cards. Kind of want to get Raidraptors since they're cool and seem viable, but not sure if they're good enough to be worth it. If not Raidraptors I'd probably go for Lyrilusc Tri-Brigade, especially since Lyrilusc is getting new support. But before that I'd like to start off with a structure deck before investing a lot in singles. What's the best to get? Leaning towards Rokket Revolt since it has a few decent staples and is cheaper than Shadoll or Salamangreat.

Honestly, the Master Duel announcement is perfectly tailored to me. My locals run pretty young so I always felt a bit out of place. My personal friend group also tend to be stingy (myself included) so if the game is even mildly generous with F2P cards then it'll introduce some variety that our rare local games don't have as well as increasing to pool of who can participate. being an official product with some production value is actually a big boon, Legacy of the Duelist and YGOPro isn't very compelling to spectate either.
It all hinges on the monetisation though, hopefully they follow the MTGArena/Pokémon TCGO model of rewarding purchase of physical product with digital packs too.

Legacy of the Duelist is extremely boring to watch.
Like holy shit what where they thinking with those sloooooooooow movements
A big part of it is interactions. LotD and the WC games before it have very slow popup text prompting players to respond when their opponent makes a play. Even if the game isn't prompting the player, the meta encourages you to "check the game state" to feint having a response, grinding the pace of play to a halt. LotD is especially bad, since the online play is so unresponsive that I sometimes wonder if it is actually faster than playing the physical card game.
if Master Duel finds a way to elegantly handle interactions then Konami will have worked a miracle.

Any recommendations of decent stores/websites that might be able to buy sealed boxes? Or should I just stick to looking for singles from that era?

Best way is to just YouTube "Deck Name 2021" and watch a few suggestions.
Crap, sorry, I forgot to mention it was for the Legacy os the Duelist Link Evolution game, 2021 rules will not apply. I also wanted to make an Old Warriors deck, but many cards came after the game.

That being said, it gave me an itch to try playing the game for old times sake, so I checked out Dueling Book. I stuck with running classic games without pendulums or links, and I had some decent matches on there…
But goddamn.
That site has so many toxic players that it makes League of Legends look good lmao.
So, any recommendations to get some casual dueling going (online)? I'm not much of a competitive player to be honest, I mostly build decks around a single archetype and very rarely add cards from other archetypes, and I have several decks that are mostly balanced against each other. But several of my friends are leaving the city soon so I'll have no one to play those decks with, so I decided to check out Project Ignis, but 9 out of 10 games are meta decks games, with the remaining 1 saying "no meta decks" meaning "I want to crush someone with my meta deck".

The fusion seems pretty underwhelming to me honestly, although the ritual is really, really good for Dark Magician and will likely even see play outside of it since it can search Magician's soul (which has already proven to be viable in other decks with good spellcaster targets) for no real cost and is also searchable in and of itself with stuff like preparation of ritesWe're back to Gen 1 support for the next set.

So, I've been playing around with a combo Dark Magician and Chaos deck. It's been working really well, but it can be a bit brick-y still. Some of the cards here would be absolutely perfect for rounding that out.We're back to Gen 1 support for the next set.

The fusion is a bit underwhelming unless they put out a better BLS ritual monster though. That said, the new ritual they're showing would be good for it.
EDIT: Shit, that Timaeus card will be searchable with Soul Servant. No more running the Red-Eyes Fusion package. This stuff is really going to be interesting. Between Soul Servant and Chaos Space you'll be able to search damn near every card in a DM/Chaos combo deck.

Blue-Eyes has been competitive before
But Dark Magician has a similar issue to the one Red-Eyes have, they just push tons of support that's not really compatible with the previous round of support so you have Dark magician fusions, Xyz, rituals but the deck doesn't have enough tools to consistently pull off any of them.
Blue-Eyes has always been a Synchro/Fusion deck and sticks to it.
I decided to get back on Dueling Book today and I was just overwhelmed. I must've only been on there 1 time because I had only one deck saved. My favorite deck is the Bad Reaction to Simochi deck, but this last one I made I think was probably bad and made in a rush. I have hardly any monsters in it and I just did one duel, but gave up because my starting hand had no reload or draw cards nor simochi or a Nurse so I just ending up quitting on my second turn after I still didn't pull out anything to set up the actual premise of the deck.
It's been years since I've played Yugioh so I might need a refresher on how to build a deck and maybe even play, but I'll probably remember that when I play a few more times.

Best way would be to check out modern burn decks on YouTube.
There's many great content creators that take the time to explain what cards do you need, why you need them and suggestions on how to play a deck

I also noticed Dueling Book has the option to make custom card decks. Well at least I think so from when I checked out the forums. I would've loved this back in 2011 when I was using YVD to make my custom cards. I had all of my images from those cards on my old laptop and that hard drive is fried. Fuck! I would've loved playing with those with more people.

I think Madolche was the most popular deck I ever used. I was mainly Simochi, Madolche, Skull Servants, Divine Grace, and a weird Dice deck. I mostly ran weird shit. Like really weird: Decks that forced my opponent to attack me so they take damage, a deck based around Elemental Burst, and other stuff I can't remember right now.
You reminded me. I hated Exodia decks. I was just basically watching someone draw until they won, but I'm pretty sure I ticked off people when I ran Self-Destruct Button. Too bad it's banned now. I guess I made a lot of people salty.

Oh right, they're the latest mechanic introduced to the game, like 3 years ago.
I wrote about them in the OP.
Long story short, the link cards have red arrows that point to other monster zones in the field, and they usually get effects based on the cards their arrows point to.
You summon them by tributing 1 monster per each arrow they have, and if you tribute a Link, its tribute counts as the number of arrows it has.
They can only be played in attack mode.
Their introduction might have been the biggest clusterfuck in the history of Yu-Gi-Oh because Konami decided to make a rule where monsters summoned from the extra Deck could only be summoned to zones a Link monster pointed at or a single special zone in the middle of the board.
Everyone disliked that.
They removed it.

Focus on your soft skills, an ubernerd might show up but if you're better with people you'll get it.
I've been a ski lift op, register clerk, and bell attendant among other things. I've made a habit of being a little early to my groups there and I've been pretty personable with the staff. So we'll see XD.
So on a fun note, how evil a luck deck can I make on a budget! I'd rather do something crazy and fun then dump money in and Luck is usually chaotic enough to counter any meta(in true Joey Wheeler style)
