Honestly even this is still understating the situation; the reality is that Xbox Series is the worst-performing hardware that Microsoft has ever released in Japan.
Taking in account the gap is less than 5k now, closing more and more every week, and there's nothing on the shelfs left to sell, when at the same time xbox one had day 1 stock being left unsold years into the generation.. I'd say with confidence, ms is liking this scenario way more.

More serious comment: Game Builder Garage went quite higher than what I was expecting and even Ratchet & Clank sold slightly more than what I was expecting; meanwhile, FFVIIR Intergrade did more or less what I was expecting.
Now, bringing back the discussion about the state of the PS ecosystem (which is one of the most important topics right now looking at the way the market is developing), I'd say that Integrade can't be taken as a good indicator of its health: don't forget how customers who already bought the original release last year could upgrade to the PS5 version for free and then buy the Yuffie DLC separately. This means that its retail sales aren't nearly as representative of its actual demand as usual. Ratchet is low but it's not unusual for the current state of the franchise. Guilty Gear Strive, on the other hand...this is how much Xrd: Sign and its re-releases sold during their debut weeks (Famitsu)

It's an important decrease and while the PS5 SKU sales are still missing for a fairer comparison... if Amazon.co.jp rankings, Comgnet and Tsutaya Top 20s represent the overall market well enough, there won't be a drastic difference in the end.

Well, yes, in the sense of "does a company prefer X to X+5", but the Xbox One itself that you are comparing to is a nadir like no other in the "mainstream" console space in Japan, so I don't know that that head-to-head is particularly reassuring.
PS 2 games were 100k sellers
PS3 it was 15-20k opening
PS4 version - opened at 20-25k
Those clickbaity threads seem to be in response to the MC threads or some meta commentary about performance of certain games.
I have a few guesses why, the data is too good, even better than the UK threads and they can't make unsbustantiated nonsense claims and hope to get away with it.
You can downplay it all you want it (and I agree that beating xbox one doesn't mean much, even if it's a better sign to do it than not), but it was that exact head to head you were talking about when saying it was the worse performing xbox ever.
What we have right now is xbox series home console, only 3504 behind xbox one, with normal stock it would go above within 1 month (but I doubt it will have sotck levels that good), plus xbox is no longer just the home console like it was back then, now there's the whole pc space which is small in Japan but growing some, plus mobile (xcloud) will come into place later this year, that's all reasons to believe it will be a much more successful generation in Japan(won't come close to x360 I think, by most metrics, but would be wonderful if it did), should help get more jp support for the ww scenario (the most important part of the equation) all net positive for xbox players.

There is nothing great about the sales , just ok for what it is

Just comparing it to the past numbers Mpl90 posted on this page its indeed disappointing.
Its a bit weird to honest how the series is performing worse and worse while looking more and more impressive. The GG audience on PS systems is shrinking right now.
Thankfully they have the West + the PC version to more than offset these losses. Still a bit of a downer these games not getting appreciated more in their domestic market.
With switch software sales over exceeding expectations in most cases, you never know with metroid.
