Looks like they learned. Demon's Souls hasn't sold through their first shipment still, right?Intergrade at 40-60% sellthrough
Rift Apart 60-80%
And BOTW survives another week!

Long cut scenes, voice acting and extended soundtracks are not the sigh of million dollars budget. Visual novel games like Danganronpa, Stein Gate have full of them and they happy with 100k sold on PSP.
The Konami games might make up for "big games", like they did in 2020.So with most of the games for this year announced, I have to wonder how Nintendo can keep up the Switch momentum in Japan, especially if the Pro is going to come out this year. Metroid Dread isn't something that's going to light the charts on fire in Japan.
Are they just going to rely on Mario Party and Pokemon? They're big series but they're still just remakes.
I thought for sure that Mario Kart 9 would launch with the Switch Pro, maybe they'll announce it later, or maybe they're choosing to coast until next year due to issues like Covid.
Sorry I need to vent.
I should not engage to pointless conversation. Some people said Xenoblade 2 could cost $100m in that $50m JPRG. I dont have any come back lol.
P/S : Is there ever a Tales game could have $50m budget?

Reject HDHD graphics have a funny way of ballooning the budget. Those geometrically complex models and all that shading and texturing and rigging and animating.
Don't underestimate Wario Ware since some entries have sold a million.
Also, stuff like SMT 5 will appease a hardcore audience. What Nintendo has this year is variety which is important in keeping the Switch's momentum going.
Edit: Also the Pokemon Remakes are games that Japan is incredibly fond of so they will be a big player in the fall no doubt.
From the man who brought you "Pokemon DLC flopped because the Resetera thread for it had few pages", now comes "The Xenoblade 2 budget is massive because of long credits".

None of those are as big as Animal Crossing, which made huge sales last year.
But I guess Team 2021 can still win out, the Switch has such a huge collection of games now.
We love to see it.26./00. [NSW] Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir & The Girl Who Stands Behind Collector's Edition <Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir \ Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind> <ADV> (Nintendo) {2021.05.14} (¥9.980) - 2.015 / 19.504 <80-100%>

I don't think it's fair to beat them over the head with a previous poorly-considered take. If you don't agree with an argument being put forward, attack it on its merits, not on the poster's merits. From the man who brought you "Pokemon DLC flopped because the Resetera thread for it had few pages", now comes "The Xenoblade 2 budget is massive because of long credits".
When it becomes a pattern, you have to start wondering if a person's even really trying to argue in good faith, or if they're best not to engage with at all.The replies I received to my question about how any non top-tier JRPG could make any profit ever in that other thread all indicated that JRPGs reuse a lot of work from their previous game to keep the cost down. That seems like a correct reasoning to me, except it counters the premise put forward in that thread that 'most JRPGs cost up to 50M to make'. I could see setting up a fully new JRPG franchise with new lore, completely new music and new assets costing 50M or more if you go for something somewhat technologically advanced, but most JRPGs can probably keep their cost down quite a bit, and most aren't on a 50M budget otherwise they would have stopped making games already as they consistently fail to reach profitability (to be fair, it's probably why we don't see many top-tier budget JRPGs in the first place).

Plus part of the Switch's strong sales is a continually growing body of evergreen titles that continue to sell well week after week, years after release.Sure 2020 had Animal Crossing, but as I said in my post 2021 has variety on it's side which can target different audiences.
That's what's gonna help 2021 a lot and that's not even factoring Pokemon Remakes (which will be huge) and Mario Party.
That's not how it goes, sales of Xbox games have reached the bottom in Japan. No publisher will print just 1000 copies and except big retailers no others will dedicate space for Xbox games and systems. For Xbox in Japan there is a big retail problem - there are only 2 (?) new games available in physical form (GoW Tactics and Chivalry) since Series S|X launch. The only JP game which is going to have a Disc edition in near future is Scarlet Nexus. That explains the lack of presence in Top-30 even for a big releases.

Seems different enough for it not to have that big of an impact, no? Could very well be one of those situations where SMP quickly comes back on top in quarterly sales.
