This Part of the OT is focusing on subsidiaries inside Sony Interactive Entertainment, like PlayStation Productions or Bungie.
Alongside that, you will find an overview of support studios or potential partnerships with third party.

Halo Franchise (Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach) for the Xbox.
On October 5, 2007, Bungie announced that it had split from Microsoft and became a privately held independent company, while Microsoft retained ownership of the Halo franchise.
After that they signed a 10 year deal with Activision, creating another big franchise with Destiny.

As of July 2022 Bungie is part of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

playstation_third_party_collaborations.png

This section is dealing with the collaborations of Sony and Third Party Studios/Publishers, that vary in different forms of exclusivity and may build the foundation of future first party games.
there are different forms of partnerships mentioned in this section:

1st party collaboration = Sony published Games developed by Third Party Studios. Sony has the IP ownership over these
games -> e.g Bloodborne, Death Stranding, Heavy Rain.

2nd party collaboration = Sony is helping out with the Publishing and development of these Games. No IP ownership compared to first Party Games -> e.g Stellarblade, Rise of Ronin, Lost Soul Aside

3rd party collaboration = third party studio is working on a third party exclusive for PlayStation (time exclusivity, funding support, marketing - Sony doesn't own these IP's) -> e.g Kena, Sifu, Final Fantasy VII Remake

We're in the calm before the storm that is the PlayStation Showcase. Hard to gauge just how things will shape up in the next couple of months, but I think this OT will quickly gain traction based off leaks and rumors for the Showcase, plus Sony's end of year and FY report have the potential for some interesting stuff.

Fun times ahead!

Love the sleekness of the new pictures. I think for that 2nd party collaboration we can add Lost Soul Aside

Angie The link you posted in the previous OT had some deets on Firewalk's game. To be specific it mentions 3rd person for locomotion, melee and general weapon handling/aiming. Was it previously known that their game was gonna be 3rd person or have 3rd person aspects?

Unless you're talking about VR, third person works so much better for me in establishing how your character interacts with their surroundings and others in them. Given how character and story focused Sony first parties tend to be? It makes perfect sense to me.

It's odd how many describe first person as more immersive because to me it's the opposite. Maybe it's because I'm not sitting right in front of a monitor but in a more conventional living room arrangement: my television is ~10 feet away and shows me a framed view into a world. That's inherently disconnected from how I experience the world in first person, but it's precisely how I'm used to seeing other forms of media where the art of cinematography is very much about framing an outside view into a scene.

The occasional oddball episode of a television series that presents an episode in first person is always strangely uncomfortable for the same reasons. There was that one episode of House MD or, if you're old enough, that one episode of M*A*S*H. By the time that singular episode is over I was always sick of the gimmick and ready to return to a form that allows for a much wider range of storytelling and doesn't feel quite so disorienting.

Always good to leave footprints in a new OT. I hope the consensus wish that we'll be here celebrating a showcase before it's time to move on comes true.

Welp during the life of this OT we will get to celebrate the work of Lance Reddick when Horizon Burning Shores releases next month. Not to mention continue to enjoy his work in Destiny 2. Plus I'm gonna go see the John Wick movie on Friday.

Heh, I liked both episodes of M*A*S*H and House MD for what they were. Definitely wouldn't want a ton of it, but still liked 'em 😄

OK folks, get your prediction in. Name 3 things you think will happen at SIE during the life of this OT. Nothin obvious like, "Burning Shores will release". Has to be something that's not already confirmed. Rumors do count. I'll start:

1. SIE will acquire a new studio. Might be a partner or a mobile studio, but someone will be acquired

2. Tom Henderson's rumor of Sony announcing 30.5 million PS5's for the next FY will happen when Sony gives their official forecast at the end of April

3. A dedicated State of Play will occur for Final Fantasy 16, with a couple of smaller titles sprinkled in.

I like your predictions. I have two:

1. Sony "dirty" deals will be revealed due to the ABK process.

2. Some of Sony's new IPs will leak.

Silly prediction: Sony will shadowdrop TLOU online beta before the showcase, this OT will be in shambles for the next 2 weeks. 😎

Heard some fun things from a couple friends visiting for GDC.

Not sure if I'm able to make it out (plus a lot of people's schedules are so full / limited on time right now) to see them at a lunch or dinner get together, but hopefully! Always fun to hear what folks are up to.

State of Unreal also really setting up some expectations for what we'll be seeing on current gen. Curious how Sony's in-house studios will compare with their upcoming titles.

Pre-ordered Burning Shores since at the very least I know Guerrilla going all-in on PS5 for the DLC is exciting.

One thing to note, didn't ND announce the TLoU series had sold 37 million copies a couple of months ago? Might be worth adding that to ND's achievements.
