Here's an altered YouTube. I tried gif-ing it, but after playing around with settings I can't find anything I'm satisfied with where the GIF doesn't look terrible or ends up larger than the video file. 15fps and 64 colors actually turns out pretty good at around 480p, but the resulting GIF is over 10mb. How big is too big? Here is a link to the raw file I uploaded to YouTube if someone wants to give it a try. Even removing one of the cuts at the beginning doesn't help much.

If you've got some other ideas instead, like plastering the animated logo over a specific image, let me know and I'm willing to try and make something.

That looks great! May I ask you about the tools you used for it?

I use ScreenFlow as a video editor, it's a screen recording tool for macOS. Except it has a ton of video editing features, more so than something like iMovie. Essentially it's just cuts of the original footage, the mirror is a PNG image with rotation, zoom blur at the beginning, and glow effects applied. The Shenmue I & II logo was increased in resolution by converting the one on the official website into a vector SVG using InkScape. The animation inside the logo is just a moving "spotlight" effect on that layer.
Video footage of the game used in that clip (Dreamcast version) came from Mr357 on YouTube. There's a completed remaster of the original special trailer on my YouTube channel.

I watched that trailer remaster which I think captures the atmosphere in Shenmue to a much better degree than SEGA's recent marketing efforts. Thank you for that. It must have taken you quite a few hours.

Cedric (Shenmue 3 producer) is teasing something Shenmue/Shenmue 3 related timed for Gamescom, indicating August 21st specifically, here via Peter on ShenmueDojo:

https://www.shenmuedojo.com/forum/index.php?threads/august-21st.328/

The guy likes to tease, but odds are something decent will be coming on the day. A new trailer might be too out there, but perhaps another update? Screenshots? If they are planning something then it's beyond excellent timing given it's the same day of release as Shenmue HD - though presumably that's their intentional strategy here. Gamescom just got way more interesting.

Cedric's comment is so vague that he could just be referring to the release of Shenmue I & II. When they extended the slacker backer PayPal campaign by a week, it made be feel like they wouldn't be releasing a new trailer at Gamescom. Deep Silver is a business, and all of the slacker backer money is going directly to YsNet so they aren't getting any of that. If they're truly responsible for Shenmue 3's PR, I would think from a financial perspective that they'd want to wait to drop some media that would fuel a lot of new pre-orders until after slacker backer closes. They're going to be recouping their investment via retail sales, so it would make sense for them to promote the game in a manner that maximizes full-priced sales.

Having said that, I hope we are getting a trailer on Tuesday but I would be impressed that Deep Silver would pass up the profit opportunity.

Edit: For those who aren't aware, there was an email sent overnight to Kickstarter backers confirming a Shenmue III "announcement" will happen at Gamecom on the 21st, sometime between 5 and 7 AM EST. (11 AM to 1PM local time at the event) It confirms that the announcement will be part of a video. I'm glad that Cedric's comment really was a proper tease for Shenmue III news and not another misunderstanding.

Finally we can evangelize for these games and people can actually get their hands on them without surfing Ebay for a working Dreamcast.

I think it's great that we have a year until Shenmue 3 releases. Lots of time to get people excited and playing all the way through the HD releases.

Cross post.

Dumb question. But it's been a very long time.

How does you max xp for each technique ? And what the most efficient way.

It's also been a very long time but I think you just repeat the move during training? You can either train at the Hazuki Dojo or there's a parking lot down by the highway, at least in Shenmue 1.

How do i practice in the Dojo. Other than the one move i showed Fuku-san how to do. It's not letting me. I can't spar with him either. :(

It could be something that only happens after a certain point in the story. But I remember being able to just walk in to the dojo and it bringing up a menu. You might need to get further in to the game, I guess.

Three very active Shenmue threads on the front page of the forum.

Wonderful. A great moment of rediscovery for the franchise.

I think I forgot how much I loved this game - booting the game yesterday was somewhat emotional (even staring at the PS4 case on my desk felt unreal), reading the impressions from newcomers has been heartwarming and playing the game has just been like hanging with your best friend from school that you haven't seen in years.

Hey uh, I realise I'm asking this super last minute, I believe I'd only have until the 31st. And it's not *too* big of a deal if people miss this.

But playing the HD rereleases I've been becoming a bigger and bigger Shenmue fan. And now I'm growing more frustrated that my Shenmue 3 slacker backer purchase won't include the telecom reward.

So could anyone confirm whether the add-ons for kickstarter backers include the telecom reward tier?

Nice, I didn't know we had a community thread.

Finished Shenmue 1 and 2 for the first time the other day and loved them. Just slacker backed Shenmue 3 as well, can't wait to continue the journey!

I just backed the slacker backer. Will they send the survey about the version I want and stuff?

finally started this and wow shenmue without load times is practically a new game lol

question though, is the audio mix off? i'm just wandering ryo's house and the bgm seems really quiet compared to the dreamcast version (or maybe my memory is just bad)

The soundtrack was mostly synthesized by the Yamaha chip on the Dreamcast so I imagine a 1:1 reproduction might be hard to achieve?

Still no email about the survey after backing the slacker backer last week...anybody else in the same boat? Do I need to proactively reach out to them or something?

I don't think you need to do anything yet. The response time is up to 10 business days.

From the FAQ section on shenmue.link/order:
*Backers will receive an email with instructions for the survey once preparations are complete. Surveys from Fangamer will be sent within 10 business days from the date of your pledge.

i found you, shenmue community thread.

what happened to Spaghetti ? genuinely loved their enthusiasm and fight for Shenmue 3 :(
If you go into his posting history his last post gives a hint that he's gone.
He spontaneously resigned as a mod at Shenmue Dojo and disappeared here for personal reasons that have not been disclosed publicly as far as I know.

damn, I remember him from from the original S3 kickstarter thread, the dude was passionate.

i was late to Shenmue, didnt play them at launch, picked them both up on DC when the kickstarter happened.

replaying S2 last night and finishing it (DC version); just wow. i don't know how you diehards lasted all this time. Disc 4 is seriously something special, and to be left waiting for that long...you the real MVPs.

really regret not backing S3 for the tier that let me write in the guest book :(

I don't think he'd be dealing too well with the ports' reception.
He left before the ports came out and he was already struggling to defend some of the criticism of the trailers and screenshots. Most of the other mods in the Shenmue community calmed down and stopped defending the problems once the game came out and they weren't fixed.

That being said, I have to assume his absence is unrelated to the game since he basically dropped off forums completely instead of just avoiding Shenmue discussion. Unless it's bigger than that and his reaction to the discussions was eating into his personal well-being causing him to avoid all interaction. I'm hoping for the better option and assuming he just doesn't have time to stick around.

He was an awesome poster, and I really do miss him being here. He was the most insightful of everyone who talked about Shenmue. I even tried to catalyst him coming to Era in the first place, as it took some time for him to shift over here. I think as an ardent defender of the Shenmue games the miasma of constant negativity must have took its toll, if his absence is connected to Shenmue at all. He did mention in his last post he may return when Shenmue 3 releases, which indicates to me that his departure could have been related to Shenmue, though I guess at this point we'll never know for sure.

Either way I'll miss him. He was a core component as to why I loved reading everything about Shenmue, both here and on the Dojo and formerly on NeoGAF. Come back soon dude.

Yeah, I miss them big time. Loved the conversations we had here and on Twitter. Not just about Shenmue, but games in general and stuff like Twin Peaks too. It is not really our place to discuss their absence though, so I will drop it.

Hope they come back for Shenmue III, especially if they were interested in doing an OT. Man, what an exciting time that will be, huh? I still have trouble believing it is happening at all.

I'm doing handicrafts of my favorite video games and after Katamari Damacy, Outrun and Wipeout I added a little piece of Shenmue to my collection:

Made of 1mm nappa "wild west" leather that's glued and stitched together. I used felt as the basis for the embroidery. I'm very happy with the result (especially the tiger!) even though the sleeves look a bit... stiff.

I'd like to say I'm grateful Shenmue 3 is releasing during the late summer/early autumn window they chose after watching so many big budget, heavily marketed AAA games get thrown out into this crazy holiday season and perform poorly in the shadow of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Battlefield V just came out to weak pre-orders that forced EA to delay, and can already be had for $30. Fallout 76 is $35 - $40 a week after release (though a lot of that is due to it being in terrible shape). Just Cause 4 isn't even out yet and can be had for $35. On the Deep Silver/THQ Nordic front they've got Darksiders 3 coming out today to middling reviews, where it can also be found for $35 and it will likely get crushed. That last thing I would want is for Shenmue 3 to get buried in this overcrowded market.

This spring wouldn't fare much better with another overstuffed release schedule including Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Crackdown 3, Metro Exodus, Anthem, Devil May Cry 5, Sekiro, Days Gone, and The Division 2 all competing for mind share.

Obviously, the fall and winter 2019 release schedules will fill up after E3 next year, but I doubt many publishers will jump on August as a target release month for their big budget games. They never seem to learn their lesson and continue to leave the summer months mostly empty, while trying to force marketing miracles in the face of bigger games for the holiday shopping season. I suspect that while YsNet is grateful to have the time they need to polish the game, a large part of the release date decision was trying set themselves into a window where Shenmue 3 can stand out.
